On his program on Thursday, MSNBC host Chris Matthews played a series of clips of self-identified Republicans or surrogates for Mitt Romney’s campaign from the past year for former Congressman J.C. Watts in an effort to get him to admit the Republican party’s leadership were speaking in “dog whistles” to communicate for voters that “we don’t like black presidents.” [...]

“Do you agree that these are dog whistles,” Matthews asked pointedly. “These are signals to people; we don’t like black presidents?”
