(CNSNews.com) – Cuban President Raul Castro—“who has on many occasions lauded Iran’s campaign against imperialism” – plans to visit Tehran next year, the Iranian state-run Fars News Agency reported on Thursday
The announcement, made by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, did not specify an exact date for the visit.
“Rodriguez said relations between Tehran and Havana are strategic and Cuba supports Iran’s legitimate right to make use of peaceful nuclear energy,” according to the Fars News report.
Iran and Cuba have expanded ties in the seven years that Mahmound Ahmadinejad has served as Iran’s president.
“We have common positions on many things,” Ahmadinejad said in January during a stop in Cuba. “We have been, are and will be together one with the other.”
