TIRINKOT (PAN) — Seventeen rebels, including their commander, were detained by police during an operation in the Khas Uruzgan district of central Uruzgan province, an official said on Monday.

With the Taliban yet to comment on the arrests, police spokesman Farid Ayel told Pajhwok Afghan News the individuals were apprehended on Sunday in the Kala Khor area without any clash. Police recovered three walkie-talkies from the detainees, he added.

Separately, four suspected insurgents died when a bomb they were planting on a road went off prematurely in the Greshk town of southern Helmand province, police said on Monday.
