THE HAGUE, 01/04/08 – Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV) has the most loyal following of all political parties in the Lower House. He is also the leader who is the most highly valued by his voters, according to findings of pollster Maurice de Hond.
On a scale of 1 to 10, PVV supporters give Wilders an 8.4. This makes their confidence in their leader clearly higher than for any other political leaders among their own supporters. Trends in recent weeks have only further boosted confidence in Wilders among the PVV following, said De Hond. He held the survey after last Thursday’s release of Wilders’ anti-Koran film ‘Fitna’.
Compared with the 2006 general elections, the degree of loyalty among the PVV voters is higher at the moment than in the case of other parties. Among the entire electorate, 40 percent have changed their party preference since 2006. Among PVV voters, the figure is just 25 percent.

Muslims are nearly four times more likely to be in jail in England and Wales compared with the rest of the population, according to the latest official figures.
In a written parliamentary reply, Justice Secretary Jack Straw said that at the end of June 2006 there were 8,243 prisoners declaring themselves as Muslim out of a total prison population of 77,982 at the time.
The number represents 11 percent of all prisoners in contrast to Muslims being just 3 percent of the country’s population at the last census in 2001, when some 1.5 million people declared themselves as Muslim.
The figures show a very high percentage of the Muslims are jail are foreign nationals, some 3,285 of the prisoners, equivalent to 40 percent.
Among the foreign nationals, the highest number was 416 from Pakistan, followed by 322 from Somalia, 259 from Iraq, 221 from Turkey, 185 from Nigeria, 179 each from Bangladesh and Nigeria and 163 from Jamaica. (All but Jamaica is Muslim -ed.)

While I’m of the theory that Jeremiah Wright hurt Obama, I’m a little skeptical of polls showing McCain beating him (and Hillary!) in deep blue states, like New Jersey.
Nonetheless, Rasmussen has McCain narrowly beating either in the Garden State.
And Michigan.
And Hillary in Washington state.
And in Wisconsin, McCain beats Obama narrowly, Hillary by a wide margin.
I can’t get the link to open, but if Red State’s reporting of Rasmussen’s numbers are accurate, Obama has cratered in New Hampshire. McCain leads both there.
I would like to believe these numbers, but recent experience has suggested that for Republicans, if poll numbers seem too good to be true, they probably are

A British Muslim told yesterday how one of the masterminds of 9/11 asked him to carry out a martyrdom’ attack in London.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed urged Muslim convert Abu Omar to carry out the operation at an al Qaeda "brainstorming" summit.
Omar claims Mohammed personally asked him to attack Britain in a suicide mission.
He said he became such close friends with Ramzi Binalshibh (Now in Gitmo -ed.), one of Osama bin Laden’s henchmen, that he spent a month with him in a Pakistani safe house.
In an interview he also disclosed that he met two other men from London who discussed terror atrocities.
One of them, who was not identified in the interview, planned attacks on civilians in Britain.
But the other Londoner, Abdul Makim Khalisadar, is a convicted rapist whose al Qaeda links emerged last month after he was jailed for ten years for attacking a 27-year-old woman in East London.
Omar says "ideas" were written on a white board where plotters also considered plans to blow up the US embassy in Qatar and kill King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

Lahore (AsiaNews) – At least 500 Christians protested yesterday in Lahore against the police who arrested, tortured, and falsely accused of theft a 16-year-old Christian girl, Farzana. The protesters, holding wooden crosses, tried to reach the office of the superintendent of police, but officers confronted and clubbed them, and arrested eight protesters, jailing them for two hours, according to a press release sent to AsiaNews from Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan.
The deputy superintendent of female police, Asmi Khan, has assured the officials of the SLMP that Farzana will be tried fairly and will be released if found not guilty.
Ferzana tells members of the SLMP that "when the police arrested me, they started to beat me on the road and abused me. At that very moment I couldn’t understand that what is going on. When police took me to the police station Muhammad Abid was already present there. The police brutally tormented me in front of Muhammad Abid and forced me to confess the stealing".

The poll, conducted over the internet, included 668 adult Israelis representing the entire political spectrum, cites a 3.7% margin of error.
The poll asked participants whether as part of an agreement to establish a Palestinian state there would be justification to demand that Arabs with Israeli citizenship relocate to Palestinian territory.
Only 24% were totally against the idea.
Of the remaining 76%, 29% said all Israeli Arabs should relocate. An additional 19% said only Arabs living in close proximity to the Palestinian state should relocate, and 28% said transfer should be decided based on loyalty or disloyalty to the State of Israel.
The data reflects Jewish Israelis’ distrust of Arabs national priorities. 50% said Arabs identify first and foremost with the Palestinian cause and see their Israeli loyalty as secondary. 40% said Arabs identify solely with Palestinians, and only a single percent thought Arabs identify wholly with their Israeli identity.

AN army cadet instructor in Birmingham claims his young charges are being targeted by stone-throwing thugs who are angry at the uniform they wear.
Sgt Billy Mazella of the Army Cadet Force, based in Washwood Heath, claimed they were having to put up with systematic abuse by gangs of local youths, who seemed to target the cadets because of events in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They mirror events in Peterborough where personnel from RAF Wittering have been ordered not to wear their uniform in public following months of verbal attacks, believed to be linked to current operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The instructor, one of three with the Washwood Heath detachment, said the offenders appeared to be
AsianMuslim who are aged as young as ten."We feel we are being harassed and attacked because we wear British Army uniform.
"Often the youths throw oral abuse at us and nearly all the time they refer to the army and that we are killing their brothers and their families overseas.
"We phone the local police almost every time this happens, yet nothing is done about it. We had one Asian cadet but they got to him and he left."

German educators are hotly debating a recent court decision that upheld a Muslim student’s right to pray on school property. He’ll be able to pray on school grounds but not during class time.
In response to a recent court decision that said a Berlin high school must provide a Muslim student with a prayer room, a debate has flared up that pits religious freedom against a German law to keep public institutions religion-neutral.
Berlin Senator for Education Juergen Zoellner defended his decision not to contest the court’s decision. The state expects the "place of education, the school, to act neutrally," Zoellner told RBB Inforadio.
Zoellner’s hands-off attitude was strongly attacked by some German educators.
"I will not allow prayer in school, despite everything," Gerhard Raehme, the principal of the Carl-von-Ossietzky Upper School in Berlin told the Tagesspiegel newspaper.

The ambassadors of 26 Islamic countries want the Netherlands to investigate whether the film Fitna made by Dutch right-wing populist MP Geert Wilders can be banned. They asked Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen whether it is possible to start legal proceedings against the anti-Islam film. The meeting at the ministry in The Hague was attended by ambassadors of countries including Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Mr Verhagen told the 26 ambassadors he was pleased that responses from the Muslim world up to now had been moderate. He said the public prosecutor was investigating whether any offence had been committed, and the Dutch government clearly distanced itself from the film.
At the same time he called on the ambassadors to ensure Dutch citizens and organisations abroad were protected. "Let’s keep heads cool and relations warm," he added. "We know about the concerns and feelings about this film among the international Muslim community, but hurt feelings must never be an excuse for aggression and threats."
In Indonesia, a few dozen demonstrators protested against Geert Wilders’ film outside the Dutch embassy. They waved banners reading "Holland go to Hell" and "Kill Geert Wilders", threw eggs and bottles of water at the building and chanted anti-Dutch slogans. One protestor called on Muslims around the world to kill Mr Wilders, calling him a "Christian terrorist".

Ankara, 31 March (AKI) – Turkey’s constitutional court has decided unanimously to hear a case aimed at closing down the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK).
The party is to face charges of anti-secular Islamic activities after the chief prosecutor filed a petition calling for the party to be closed.
The case is certain to revive a battle between Turkey’s secularist establishment and the AK Party of devout Muslims.
Four out of the 11 judges opposed the trial of President Abdullah Gul, who is alleged to have issued pro-Islamic memorandums to diplomatic missions abroad when he was foreign minister between 2002 and 2007.
However, they were overruled by the other seven judges who said the trial should also cover Gul.

EGYPT: A battle over female circumcision- LA Times
Islamists and conservative clerics are fighting proposed legislation in the Egyptian parliament that would criminalize female circumcision and raise the minimum age of when a girl can marry. The Islamists view the bill as an affront to Sharia law.
Opponents say the new restrictions are an attempt by the government to impose a Western agenda on an Islamic society. Some clerics, in opposing the bill, state that Islamic Sharia law condones female circumcision and imposes no minimum age of marriage. "Religion does not prohibit or criminalize female circumcision," prominent Islamic scholar Mustafa al-Shaka said to the local press this week.
Islamic scholars have been divided over the religious validity of female circumcision. One camp holds that Islam opposes it, while the other argues that this procedure, in which parts of the female genitals are removed, is necessary to tame a woman’s sexual desires and ensure decency.

The US has charged a Guantanamo Bay detainee with war crimes for the 1998 al-Qaeda attack on the US embassy in Tanzania, which left 11 people dead.
Charges against Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani – who was captured in 2004 – include murder and attacking civilians.
Mr Ghailani, a Tanzanian is the 15th person to be charged at Guantanamo, where trials are expected to start later this year.
Mr Ghailani goes by dozens of aliases, including "Foopie" (WTF? -ed.) and "Ahmed the Tanzanian".
He is accused of buying the lorry that carried the bomb used in the Dar es Salaam attack.

Tel Aviv -A Palestinian man who tried to stab an Israeli settlers in the northern West Bank was shot and killed late Monday afternoon.
The Palestinian had a large knife and ran towards a hitchhiking point but was shot by a settler before he managed to inflict any harm, local media reported.

Sheikh Mubarek Gilani, the group’s leader, is regarded as an international terrorist. At a terrorist summit held in Khartoum in December 1993, Gilani and other terrorist leaders, such as Osama bin Laden, were caught on film by the Canadian Broadcasting Company chanting, “Down, down USA! Down, down CIA!” and “Death to the Jews!” Gilani currently resides in Lahore, Pakistan. In 2007, Gilani issued a press release suggesting, in part that Daniel Pearl is not dead, and that his "purported" death is part.
