THE HAGUE, 01/07/08 – Mayor Job Cohen of Amsterdam is prepared to give subsidies to radical mosques. He is thereby adopting a quite remarkable interpretation of the principle of separation of Church and State.

According to critics, separation of Church and State is violated if a government authority subsidises construction of a church or mosque. But Cohen disagrees. Conversely, in his view the separation of church and state would however be violated if government subsidised only moderate Islam and not radical Muslims.

Cohen gives his remarkable views in a memorandum, ‘Separation of Church and State,’ launched by Amsterdam last weekend. In an interview with Trouw newspaper, he defended his policy on encouraging the building of mosques.

“The Netherlands was always a country of minorities whose rights needed protection. We do not involve ourselves with the content of religions, nor they in our administration. But that does not mean that we may not support any religious institutions, that we may not deploy any Imam to address radicalising youngsters, or even sometimes offer some extra support for building a mosque, synagogue or ‘black’ church, because the groups that make use of it are in a deprived situation. Yes, that means that we can also support an orthodox mosque if we have the arguments to assert that this mosque is in its place there.”

…….Cohen also suggest in Trouw that he wants the controversial Westermoskee mosque built as quickly as possible. Building was halted over a year ago after a series of scandals, including a statement by the mosque leaders that they did not want to pursue a moderate course, though this had in fact been agreed with Amsterdam’s De Baarsjes district.

BY the time you read this, I will be in Iran. I’ve never been there before, never met an Iranian leader – I don’t even like the present Iranian leadership – so remember all that, because it might become important.

I’m determined to do my bit for the anti-war effort. We need another war like Gordon Brown needs another by-election.

But the Sunday papers were again full of Israeli war games and threats as speculation mounts of a massive bombardment of yet another Muslim country.

This week I hope to meet Ali Larijani, formerly Iran’s nuclear negotiator, now speaker of the Iranian parliament and, I hope, the next president.

Larijani proved beyond even the CIA’s attempt at contradiction that Iran is acting entirely within her legal rights to develop nuclear power.

As a signatory to the treaty governing the development of nuclear weapons, Iran has done nothing wrong under it either, at least according to the watchdog maintained by the international community, the IAEA

Israel, on the other hand, refuses to sign the nuclear weapons treaty and thus, with a chutzpah which takes the breath away, claims it’s not in breach of it.

Muslim immigrants looking for advice on integrating into mainstream society in Germany, won’t find much help in their mosques. According to a new study, the majority of imams in Germany are ill-prepared for their own stay in Germany and most lack any academic training.

A study on Islamic preachers in Germany has found that most imams are unable to help Muslim immigrants integrate into mainstream German society because they are insufficiently prepared for their stay in Germany.

According to the study “Imams in Germany,” up to 20 percent of preachers belong to the more conservative, fundamentalist strand of Islam. The study also discovered that only one fifth of imam’s possess academic qualifications.

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired a makeshift rocket Monday night toward southern Israel, further shaking an already wobbly truce between Israel and militant organizations in the territory.

The rocket caused neither injuries nor damage, a military spokeswoman in Tel Aviv said, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

It was the fifth rocket launched since the truce took effect on June 19.

Armed Islamic courts union fighters have assaulted at cultural boogie in El-Ghelle village north of Balad district 30km north of Mogadishu on Sunday night according to the residents.

The fighters were reported to have opened fire on the site that was going on drum’s beating and songs with traditional jazz. The attack happened following the Islamic fighters nearby the site heard the noise of music equipments being beaten and the noise of the songs the participants were chanting.

The band singers were entertaining guests at the wedding party was told by the gunmen it was performing “satanic” music contrary to the Quran. We were ordered to stop the music and empty the house which we all complied with immediately,” said Hayir Ali Roble, one of the musicians performing at the party. “We followed their orders and kept our musical instruments in a room but they forcefully entered the house and took the instruments, and in the process broke some of them.”

A white man who wanted to convert to Islam planted a fake nail bomb on a bus and included a note that “Britain must be punished”, a jury heard on Monday.

Nicholas Roddis, 22, is claimed to have disguised himself with a long, black beard to carry out the hoax attack which terrified passengers.

He had recently learnt the teaching of Islam in a move to convert to the religion and recorded the preachings of disgraced Muslim cleric Abu Hamza.  (not a bad start -ed.)

Leeds Crown Court was told he would only befriend Muslim colleagues while working for a loans company and showed them recordings of Allied soldiers being tortured and beheaded.

Edward Brown QC, prosecuting, said: “His behaviour, to one colleague, appeared to be focused on radical Islam and he would speak about his views on the US policy in Iraq.

“He was heard once saying that it was terrible how so many of his ‘brothers and sisters’ were being killed, and viewed the US soldiers as the real terrorists.”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was the target of an ‘X-ray plot’ when he attended a UN-sponsored global food summit in Rome earlier this month, Iran’s former ambassador to Italy, Abolfazl Zohrevand, claimed Monday.

“A day before Ahmadinejad’s arrival in Rome, I checked and found out that the (security) X-ray machines installed gave off too powerful radiation. It measured over 900 instead of 300 as normal,” Zohrevand told Iran’s IRNA news agency.

“We changed the machine, thinking that it was faulty, but realized the rays were being remotely controlled,” he said.

“Bearing in mind that rays of over 1,500 are extremely dangerous to human life, this makes us think there was a plot,” Zohrevand continued.

Zohrevand didn’t say which units he was using but radiation is usually measured in milligrams. He also didn’t say whether Ahmadinejad was staying was a hotel or an official residence.

SANAA, YEMEN– Seven arrested Christian missionaries, including an unknown number of Americans, apparently remained detained in Yemen Sunday, June 29, and there was international concern they may face torture for spreading Christianity, several sources said.

Yemeni news website Sahwa Net reported that Hadni Dohni, a Yemeni Muslim who converted to Christianity, and six “foreigners” are accused of “promoting Christianity and distributing the Bible…” The suspects were apparently detained last week in Hodiada province and transferred to the capital Sanaa where security forces investigate them “to know who support them,” the website said.

Isaac Crawford, an American blogger who has been writing from Yemen on his Web site www.isaharr.com told BosNewsLife however he is especially concerned about the Yemeni convert. He, “is the one that you need to pray for. The popular method of dealing with converts is to kill them,” Crawford said, adding that the foreigners were likely to face deportation.

But actually they are far more sober and practical about it than the American Christians. For instance, they don’t believe God is a sports fan like Texas Longhorn fans, and the rest of the Bush/GOP Christian base do. And they stick to the no-pork rules etc.

The Muslims and Allah are just the subject of a lot of bad PR. Violent unsettling video, most of their own making, is widely trafficked in Western media and they are much more overt (less insidious?) than the Christians, publicly praying three times a day no matter where they are, and blowing up suicide bombs to drive the Christian invaders from their “holy land” of Islam; real attention-getters, those Muslim Jihadists. The video of 9/11 had millions more replays than any MTV video ever. They rejoice in all of this, believing Allah ordains their actions.

If one considers Commander-in-Chief Bush’s “favorite political philosopher” is Jesus, he quite possibly similarly believes his crusade to invade Islam is God-ordained, the same way, it is widely assumed, the 9/11 lunatic Islamic hijackers proclaimed Allah Akbar! (God is great!), as they crashed into the World Trade Center.

There are no liberals fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. No matter what you believe you may be assured of that.

In fact, the American Christian GOP conservatives share directly almost every religious/moral/political belief with the Islamic Muslims. They just have a slightly different mythical supreme being.

They are both, amongst many other things: Anti-gay, they both hate Jews and atheists, they oppose birth control as well as abortion, they believe women are less-than-worthy of God or man….and of course they hate and want to kill anyone who doesn’t share their religious beliefs.

The Pentagon has drafted a secret plan that would send U.S. special forces into the wild tribal regions of Pakistan to capture or kill Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants, but the White House has balked at giving the mission a green light, The New York Times reported today.

The Bush administration, which has seven months left in its term, gave the go-ahead for the military to draw up the plan to take the war on terror across the Afghan border and into the mountains of Pakistan where bin Laden is believed to be hiding, according to the newspaper.

Although the special forces attack plan was devised six months ago, infighting among U.S. intelligence agencies and among White House offices have blocked it from being implemented, the Times reported

The Bush team would like to leave office next January having put bin Laden, the man behind the Sept. 11 attacks, behind bars or in his grave.

But sending U.S. forces into Pakistan would be controversial and risky. The rugged mountain area is populated by bin Laden sympathizers, hurting the chances that such a raid could succeed. It would also trigger a diplomatic outcry from the Pakistani government.

Islamabad, June 30 (PTI) - Up to nine persons were killed and as many injured in a missile strike carried out today by pilotless drones on the headquarters of a religious group in Pakistan’s troubled Khyber Agency.

The missiles apparently targeted Haji Namdar, the head of the religious group, but he was safe, eyewitnesses told TV channels.

Haji Namdar quoted witnesses as saying that missile attack was carried out by drones operated by the US forces in Afghanistan. The witnesses said they had seen drones flying overhead when the missile strike occurred at about three a.M.

Quntar, who crushed the head of four-year-old Eynat Haran with his rifle, is serving four life sentences for murder in an Israeli prison, but is almost certain to be freed in a prisoner swap with Hizbullah this week.

On one hand, Quntar embodies what the PA considers the “heroism” of terrorists fighting Israel. On the other hand, he’s the ultimate symbol of all terrorist prisoners who have murdered Israelis and will eventually be freed as a result of future kidnappings or through some other means.

The city’s practices recently prompted a federal criminal investigation into whether San Francisco has been systematically circumventing U.S. immigration law, according to officials with knowledge of the matter.

City officials say they are trying to balance their obligations under federal and state law with local court orders and San Francisco’s policies aimed at protecting the rights of the young immigrants, who they say are often victims of exploitation.

Federal authorities counter that drug kingpins are indeed exploiting the immigrants, but that the city’s stance allows them to get away with “gaming the system.”

San Francisco juvenile authorities have been grappling for several years with an influx of young Honduran immigrants dealing crack in the Mission District and Tenderloin.

KABUL: Suspected Taliban militants have beheaded two police officers in the central Logar province, officials said.

The two officers, Sher Muhammad and Behram Gul, were abducted from the Karez area by four armed motorcyclists the day before they were beheaded on Sunday, the Muhammad Agha district chief said.

Bismullah Khan Khoshiwal said the policemen were on the way to their office when the suspected militants forced them out of their passenger car. Residents found their bodies late on Saturday and alerted the police.

A note found with the bodies warned other security officials that they would meet a similar end if they were captured.

Fitna, the short feature film on Islam and violence put together by MP Geert Wilders does not break the law, the public prosecution department said on Monday, according to news agency ANP.

In addition, a number of statements about Islam made by Wilders over the past few months are also within legal limits, ANP reported Amsterdam’s chief public prosecutor Leo de Wit as saying.

Fitna, a 16-minute compilation of video footage, was released on the internet on March 27. An article in the Volkskrant newspaper in which Wilders called for a ban on the Koran was also investigated.

Some 40 individuals and largely Muslim organisations have accused Wilders of encouraging religious hatred.

According to NOS, no action is being taken against Wilders because he attacks Islam as a religion but not its followers.

While his comments are sometimes offensive, Wilders does not overstep any boundaries, the public prosecution department said.

A good many people in Gaza have already had a knock on the door, opening it to two or three men dressed in strange clothing reminding them of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The men ask to speak to the head of the family. “We want 10 minutes of your time to talk about Islam,” they say.

Usually they talk about the importance of religion and becoming religious, about the faith’s noble principles and the need to maintain them. They often stress that “Islam is the correct religion” and that “a good Muslim must attend the mosque and pray five times a day.”

They always wear galabiyahs over trousers and sandals, and have long beards. These believers, known to Gazans as salafis, will not discuss politics or matters such as the tahadiyeh or the “Zionist enemy.”

They are not a political group, yet some Hamas members see them as a threat, especially in the public arena. They are a kind of sect of Sunni Islam that has operated throughout the world since the dawn of Islam, calling on believers to imitate the ways of the prophet Mohammed and the group of his companions known as the sahabah.

They have always been in Gaza. Hamas’ concerns stem from a rise in support for the sect throughout the Strip. In the past year they have increased their ranks by several times; their number now stands at between 40,000 to 50,000 Gazans.

The number of those praying in the mosque the sect operates, A-Sahabah, in the Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City has skyrocketed since Hamas’ takeover of Gaza a year ago.

The sect even operates a religious school for grades 1 through 12, whose classes are bursting at the seams.

But critics warned that the deal’s heavy price for Israel could offer militant groups an even greater incentive to kill captive soldiers. In Lebanon Sunday, Hezbollah declared victory and planned celebrations.

The most difficult part for Israel was the release of Samir Kantar. He is serving multiple life sentences for infiltrating northern Israel in 1979 and killing three Israelis – a 28-year-old man, his 4-year-old daughter and an Israeli police officer.

Witnesses said Kantar smashed the little girl’s head against a rock and crushed her skull with a rifle butt. The attack has been etched in the Israeli psyche as one of the cruelest in the nation’s history. Kantar denied killing the girl or smashing her skull.

In the volatile Diyala province, at least three tribal policemen were injured when a female suicide bomber targeted a centre of a tribal police squad.

The bomber wearing an explosives belt hit the centre of one of the police units known as Awakening Councils in Wajihiyah near Baquba, 45 kilometres north-east of Baghdad, police sources told VOI.

At least 16 women have carried out suicide bombings in Diyala, a mixed Sunni-Shiite province, in the past six months, according to figures released by its municipal council.

The last of such attacks was on June 22 when a woman blew herself up near a local government building in the centre of Baquba, killing at least 13 people and injuring 30.

They refused to deport Bin Laden’s ”right hand man in Europe,” Abu Qatada, back to Jordan for fear he will be tortured (then released him on bail).  But they have no problem sending a Christian family to certain death in Pakistan. My blood is fucking boiling…..

Church figures have joined the fight to stop a family of Pakistani Christians, who fled to Scotland to escape persecution from Islamic extremists, from being deported tomorrow.

Asad and Gullrukh Gul and their three young children were taken from their home in Glasgow to the controversial Dungavel Detention Centre in South Lanarkshire late last week and have since been transferred to the Yarl’s Wood facility in Bedfordshire ahead of their deportation.

The family say they fled from Lahore almost a year ago after they were persecuted by Islamic fundamentalists because of their Christian faith. Mr Gul was targeted in Pakistan for printing Christian literature and accused of blasphemy, an offence which carries the death penalty. If he is returned to Pakistan and executed, his children, aged 18 months, three and five, will be put in the care of a Muslim family.

The family’s supporters, including many senior figures from within the Church of Scotland, are making a last-ditch attempt to halt their deportation on Tuesday.
