PINAL COUNTY, AZ — A Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy has been rescued after being shot in the Arizona desert, apparently by an undocumented immigrant.

The deputy is now being transported to Casa Grande Regional Medical Center in an unknown condition.

According to Pinal County Sheriff’s Lt. Tamatha Villar, the deputy said in a radio transmission around 4:30 p.m. that he had been shot by an undocumented immigrant.

Villar said the deputy was working alone in the search for undocumented immigrants when he stopped five suspects southwest of Casa Grande, near Interstate 8 and Arizona 84.

One of the suspects reportedly pulled out an AK47 assault rifle, shooting the deputy in the abdomen.

The suspects apparently then took off with a “load of marijuana,” and remain on the loose right now.

Authorities spent over an hour searching for the deputy, who was able to communicate with authorities via his radio.

Sadly, I can see Rahm winning….

(WSJ)- We’re hearing that Team Obama is increasingly eager to throw the Democratic Senate candidate from Illinois, Alexi Giannoulias, under the bus and replace him with someone who can win. The news gets worse and worse for the former wonderboy of Illinois politics. Mr. Giannoulias’s family bank, Broadway Bank, collapsed and was seized by federal regulators. Now there are allegations of bank fraud. No wonder Democrats in the state are hyperventilating.

Mr. Giannoulias lags behind Republican Mark Kirk in money and in the polls, though he still has the support of the senior senator from Illinois, Dick Durbin. But the White House wants the “Obama seat” to remain in Democratic hands. Mr. Giannoulias is unmistakably seen as damaged property.

One intriguing idea being considered: Force Mr. Giannoulias out of the race and replace him with . . . Rahm Emanuel. Mr. Emanuel is still popular in Illinois and there was a big push to get him handpicked as the Obama successor back in late 2008. Democrats have used the shaft-and-shift strategy before, as in New Jersey in 2002 when they dumped a walking wounded Bob Torricelli as their Senate candidate a few weeks before Election Day.

….What seems increasingly certain is that if Mr. Giannoulias stays on the ticket, he will hand the Senate seat to Republicans. Democrats need a replacement and muscling Rahm Emanuel onto the ticket as the Democratic candidate has obvious appeal. This is the Chicago way of politics, and no one does it better than Rahm.

Professor Henry Louis Gates can’t seem to win. Nearly a year ago, following his well-publicized clash with a Cambridge police officer, he was, to many conservatives, the poster child for the “angry black man.”  Yet these days, Gates, a Harvard professor and the director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African-American Research, is taking flack from the African-American far-left for an op-ed he wrote for the New York Times in which he highlighted the “considerable role” that Africans played in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. In the April 22 essay, titled “Ending the Slavery Blame-Game,” Gates wrote, “The sad truth is that without complex business partnerships between African elites and European traders and commercial agents, the slave trade to the New World would have been impossible, at least on the scale it occurred….the conquest and capture of Africans and their sale to Europeans was one of the main sources of foreign exchange for several African kingdoms for a very long time.

Although the facts regarding African complicity in the slave trade are well-known and well-documented, that didn’t stop the Nation of Islam from pouncing on Professor Gates in an April 28 screed titled “The Mis-Education of Henry Louis Gates, Jr.” Written by Abdul Arif Muhammad, an attorney and former editor-in-chief of the Nation of Islam’s Final Call newspaper, the essay slams Professor Gates as an “apologist for the evil of white America.” “(Gates’) article is a perfect example of the ‘educated Negro’ who has been taught to find his ‘proper place’ at the back door,” Muhammad writes. “Professor Gates demonstrates through this article that he has accepted his proper place at the back door, showing he is in the category of an ‘educated Negro’ that (sic) has, in fact, been mis-educated.”

….The irony of this controversy is that the ultimate point of Gates’ April 22 op-ed was to argue in favor of reparations for slavery (something which the Nation of Islam strongly advocates). Gates was merely making the point that the reparation money should come from African governments as well as from the U.S.

(Daily Mail)— A Muslim protester who daubed a war memorial with graffiti glorifying Osama Bin Laden and proclaiming ‘Islam will dominate the world’ walked free from court after prosecutors ruled his actions were not motivated by religion.

Tohseef Shah, 21, could have faced a tougher sentence if the court had accepted that the insults, which included a threat to kill the Prime Minister were inspired by religious hatred.

But  —  citing a loophole in the law  —  the Crown Prosecution Service chose not to charge him with that offence and he escaped with only a two-year conditional discharge and an order to pay the council £500 compensation after admitting causing criminal damage.

Yesterday the decision was attacked by politicians and veterans who were shocked by the desecration of the memorial in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.

Their contributions to our sport have been invaluable, and their exploits have been witnessed, enjoyed and applauded by millions of Americans. All of them, as well as the Clubs for whom they play, have gone to great lengths to ensure full compliance with federal immigration law.

“The impact of the bill signed into law in Arizona last Friday is not limited to the players on one team. The international players on the Diamondbacks work and, with their families, reside in Arizona from April through September or October. In addition, during the season, hundreds of international players on opposing Major League teams travel to Arizona to play the Diamondbacks. And, the spring training homes of half of the 30 Major League teams are now in Arizona. All of these players, as well as their families, could be adversely affected, even though their presence in the United States is legal. Each of them must be ready to prove, at any time, his identity and the legality of his being in Arizona to any state or local official with suspicion of his immigration status. This law also may affect players who are U.S. citizens but are suspected by law enforcement of being of foreign descent.

“The Major League Baseball Players Association opposes this law as written. We hope that the law is repealed or modified promptly. If the current law goes into effect, the MLBPA will consider additional steps necessary to protect the rights and interests of our members.

“My statement reflects the institutional position of the Union. It was arrived at after consultation with our members and after consideration of their various views on this controversial subject.”

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – Singer Ricky Martin joined in the criticism of Arizona’s new law that will allow police to stop anyone they think might be an illegal immigrant.

Appearing at the Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony Thursday, Martin said the law “makes no sense,” and he urged an end to discrimination, hate and racism.

“Long live love, long live peace,” he told the audience at the award show in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Martin received a standing ovation when he walked on stage, making one of his first public appearances since announcing he is gay.

“This is not in the script,” he said as he launched into his criticism.

“You are not alone. We are with you,” Martin said. “Put a stop to discrimination. Put a stop to hate. Put a stop to racism.”

CHICAGO (AP) — A federal judge in Chicago has refused to issue a subpoena for President Barack Obama to testify at former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s political corruption trial.

U.S. District Judge James Zagel ruled Friday that lawyers for Blagojevich had not produced sufficient evidence that Obama would have anything material to say on the witness stand.

Defense attorneys had claimed that the president could shed light on charges that Blagojevich schemed to sell or trade Obama’s former U.S. Senate seat.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two U.S. citizens were charged Friday with conspiring to provide computer assistance, watches and other support to help “modernize” al-Qaida.

A vaguely worded indictment unsealed Friday in federal court in Manhattan accused Wesam El-Hanafi of traveling to Yemen to meet with unnamed al-Qaida members in February 2008.

The terrorists “instructed him on operational security measures and directed him to perform tasks for al-Qaida,” the indictment says. While there, he also “took an oath of allegiance to al-Qaida,” it adds.

In February 2008, El-Hanafi bought computer software that allowed him to secretly communicate over the Internet, federal prosecutors allege. That summer, he met with an unnamed co-conspirator and the second defendant, Sabirhan Hasanoff, in Brooklyn to discuss joining al-Qaida, according to the indictment.

The confidential co-conspirator paid $50,000 to Hasanoff, who later traveled to New York City and performed unspecified “tasks for al-Qaida,” the court papers say. The papers say that the conspiracy included El-Hanafi purchasing seven Casio digital watches, but doesn’t say why.

(Al Arabiya)- As the heated debate about banning the face veil rages in France, a journalist with the women’s magazine Marie Claire decided to put on the controversial cloth and walk the streets of Paris for five days.

In an article entitled “Ma semaine en Niqab” (My Week in a Niqab), published with photos in the May issue of Marie Claire, journalist Elizabeth Alexandre described her experience.

….”I felt as if I am inside a tent. I couldn’t see my feet and when I walked the garment rolled around my legs and I had to slow down. I was terrified I was going to fall on my face.”

She then went to a café where she found it very hard to drink her coffee or smoke a cigarette from under her veil.

“I had to keep lifting the veil in order to take sips from the coffee or to smoke. This was very difficult.”

….Getting on the metro, Alexandre realized that people were reluctant to talk to her because they did not feel at ease talking to someone whose face they cannot see.

“They looked at me then looked away. I tried to start a conversation with the passengers, but I failed. I felt isolated.”

When she went to her office in the magazine pretending she had decided to wear the face veil for real, her colleagues started treating her differently.

“I found out that I could neither see nor hear properly and that made team work nearly impossible.”

….”I discovered how the face veil isolates the woman as it turns her into someone who cannot interact with people. I felt that after only three days of wearing it.”

On the fourth day, Alexandre drew the third conclusion: the full veil made her extremely self-conscious and overly sensitive about anything related to her body.

….”Being totally covered made me feel that my body is a disgrace. All men around me turned into sexually obsessed beasts that want to devour me. It is then that I felt I need the veil to protect me from this imminent danger. For the first time in my life, I felt I was a sex bomb and a source of sin.”

Within minutes Monday a legislative committee repudiated both Islamic and British law. Neither, perhaps, represents an immediate threat to justice in Louisiana, but it was not entirely an alarmist and xenophobic stunt when the committee approved two bills by Rep. Ernest Wooton, R-Belle Chase. Mostly, but not entirely.

One of Wooton’s bills, which provides that no foreign law shall be applied here if it violates a right guaranteed by the American Constitution, is by any rational measure superfluous. But it is not unknown for immigrant litigants to invoke the tenets of Sharia to which, the committee was told, the Maryland courts deferred in a child custody case.

Wooton’s other bill may be largely symbolic too, although it is worth passing just in case. It does not single out the Limeys, but its refusal to enforce foreign defamation judgments that are “repugnant to the public policy of this state” is clearly aimed at them. Other states have passed, or are considering, similar legislation in response to a libel award rendered in London against the American writer Rachel Ehrenfeld.

(The Hill)- President Barack Obama is unlikely to name an African-American to the U.S. Supreme Court to fill the seat of retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, and perhaps at all during his presidency, a black lawmaker who briefed the Congressional Black Caucus on judicial nominations said Wednesday.

 “We’re not sure this president is ever going to nominate another African- American to the court,” Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) said.

“He’s African-American. We’ve got someone who proposes to be African-American on the court,” Norton said, referring to the court’s lone black member, Justice Clarence Thomas, whose votes against affirmative action and other policies important to the black community have angered liberal African-Americans.

And once again, the MSM forgets they’re supposed to be impartial, drops the facade and exposes their leftist ideology…

NEW YORK- Seven in 10 U.S. adults support arresting people who can’t prove they’re in the United States legally, a poll about Arizona’s new immigration law indicated.

The Angus Reid Public Opinion poll of 1,002 American adults asked respondents if they’d want four guidelines in Arizona’s immigration law enacted in their own state.

The law, the nation’s toughest, seeks to identify, prosecute and deport illegal immigrants and gives police broad powers to stop people on suspicion of being in the United States illegally.

Seventy-one percent of poll respondents said they’d support requiring their own police to determine people’s U.S. status if there was “reasonable suspicion” the people were illegal immigrants, the poll found.
