Guess What The LGBT Crowd Is 'Offended' By: T-Shirts That Say 'Straight Pride'…Compare It To 'White Supremacy' And Say Shirts 'Promote Harassment And Bullying'
Unbelievable hypocrisy . . .
Trackback | RSS 2.0 | Weasel ZippersTodd Starnes: Gay pride is just fine but Straight pride is homophobic and racist, according to some gay and lesbian advocacy groups.
The “Straight Pride” t-shirts were being sold by a vendor at a Tea Party Express rally in Lansing, MI.
“It’s like white supremacy,” Penny Gardner, president of the Lansing Association for Human Rights, told The Michigan Messenger. “It’s as if they are saying the idea of supremacy is somehow the American way. The American way is about equality, and equality is all we’re looking for.”
David Holtz, executive director of Progress Michigan, agreed. “What’s troubling is the idea they are getting support and clearly making money off a vendor who is making money off discrimination against gay and lesbian people,” Holtz told the newspaper. “And they think that’s OK. That’s what’s troubling.”
“It’s veiled homophobia in action, and peddling homophobia and profiting from it are both immoral and unacceptable,” said Rea Carey, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
One of the t-shirts was apparently worn by a teenager and that set off even more outrage within the ranks of gays and lesbians.
“It’s sad and troubling that some parents instill values of exclusion and teach their children to disrespect and bully those who are different from them,” Daryl Presgaves of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network told the newspaper. “These shirts promote harassment and bullying of actual or perceived LGBT youth, plain and simple. We hope the parents at the very least have the common sense and decency to not let their children wear such shirts to school…”

Once again the LGBT community is having a self-esteem problem.
They apparently want to be ‘equal’ w/o being ‘equal’
W-T-F???
Where can I get one?
Ok..just so’s ya’s know…I’m Gay and I LOVE these shirts…it’s about damned time ya’ll started taking some Pride in your Straightness!!! So when’s the Parade…cuz I wanna come and support you all! Seriusly…I do love this! ….
Their whole argument/complaint is riddled with bullshit!
Black Pride is good. White Pride is racist. Yet, we’re told ‘blacks’ can’t chose their color … as if whites can?
Congressional Black Caucus is OK. Don’t EVEN think about a Congressional Caucasian Caucus.
It’s okay to be gay and proud, but not okay to be straight and proud?
Straight and ashamed? Would that work?
This is so typical from ‘activists’ that refer to ’straights’ as ‘breeders’.
Tough pierced titties, LGBT.
Bite me.
I’m offended by their offense to the non-offensive T shirt. Homophobic means fear of homosexuals. Don’t see that on the shirt.
Back in the closet where they belong!
Damn, I want at least one in X-Large Size.
What’s more offensive, a straight pride tee or some gay dude, half dressed, spandex, wearing fairy wings and rollerblades at a gay pride parade?
I seriously don’t get this AT ALL. I understand why the Gay Community wants to and does wear Gay Pride T-shirts and that’s ok with me. It’s a way to identify yourself as being something other than a human being. Or, if you prefer, a different type of human being, i.e. homosexual.
But why is it wrong for someone else to identify themselves as heterosexual human beings by wearing that “Straight” T-Shirt?
How is MY saying I’m Straight infringe upon the rights of, or in anyway “intimidate” gays?
Apparently, the homosexual rights activists have BROKEN OUR CODE. See, when they use the word “Pride” for instance, it means that the gay lifestyle is superior to the straight (boring) lifestyle, but when we use the word “Pride” it means “White Supremacist”. Or something. Maybe Ms. Gardner could explain it better, but symbolically the equation seems to be:
“Straight Pride” = “White Supremacist”
Well, I must be missing something. Let’s try Mr. Holtz, whose equation seems to be:
“Straight Pride” = “Discrimination against Gays and Lesbians”
So, if I’m proud of my straight lifestyle, then I’m automatically discriminating against gays and lesbians? Will the gay and lesbian universe be improved in some way if I stop being proud of my straight lifestyle? Could Mr. Holtz stop to explain why my approval of the lifestyle I have chosen for myself is somehow less worthy of pride than his?
I still don’t get it. Let’s try Ms. Carey, who identifies
“Straight Pride” = “veiled homophobia”
I’m still missing it. The shirt offers no threat, no negative connotation regarding gay or lesbian (or any of the other gender bender permutations) lifestyles. It simply makes a statement that the wearer is proud of his or her own lifestyle. Are we excluded from that right? Should the shirt include an asterisk, like, “* Note: This statement does not imply judgment regarding the validity of alternate lifestyles.” Maybe Holder should get right on it.
Who cares what they say, who put them in charge of writing the rules of speech anyway. The problem is political correctness, it’s the imposing of rules by one group on another…that in itself isn’t freedom or even common sense. If they are so ignorant to really believe this crap…too bad! People need to just start ignoring the loons totally and then perhaps they will shut up. The bowing down to assholes is just getting more absurd by the day.
OK..so I’m sitting here in a coffee house in a predominantly Gay area…showed this to a gay guy and asked him if he felt it was offensive or veiled homophobia his response was “NO…so what if they want to wear a Straight Pride..if they can’t wear that then we shouldn’t be wearing Gay Pride shirts…”
So folks..there ya have it…from one Lesbian and a Gay Guy…the “leaders” of the LGBT community do NOT speak for all of US…
However that being said …if it were being worn by someone from a homophobic group … or let’s say that church group who were protesting at the soldier’s funeral (they seem to hate everyone) …well then that would be a very different story. So I suppose it would then have to go to the “intent” of the wearer… as most of don’t wear our “gayness” as a way to “punish” or intimidate the straight community.
Having been on the receiving end of someone’s homophobia trust me was the worst 6 months … having to secure a restraining order for my safety from a neighbor who lived on the same property…….the woman was a true whack job… so this shirt in her hands….yeah… her intent would not have been to wear her pride on her chest but rather to try to intimidate me and my then lover… btw..she was evicted and last I heard she had lost custody of her kids… she was emotionally abusive to them… turned out there had many calls to Child Protective Service before I had even moved in….
Also did you know that blacks are protected from the “N” word …but that she was able to write “HOMO” outside of my window on a wall…and according to the law that was protected “Free Speech” ?…. I had to walk around with a tape recorder in my pocket every time I went outside so as to protect myself legally from a “she said..she said” scenario… she yelled and cussed and threatened..and I said nadda…all caught on tape…came in quite handy with the city attorney’s office later…
Hopefully you can maybe understand just a bit …
All in all ..I think it’s a great shirt and I hope people will wear it not with hate for others ….but rather for Pride in themselves…!
Btw…I was just at a Tea Party Rally (my second) here in town and was quite welcomed!! The Tea Party folks thus far have not been hateful. So I would be curious as to just who was selling these shirts…because it does seem a bit odd that they would be sold at a Tea Party Rally…. that would answer some questions… anyway of finding out just who was selling them?
what to know what produces hatred. Being told what I believe is wrong simply because it makes you feel uncomfortable or offends your feelings like; I am a proud Ameican, I believe in the constitution, I want government to be small an unnoticed ect. As for the gay community why don’t you start by policing yourselves clean up the rest areas on any major highway which no one can use but only to drive in and see a dozen bobbing heads and forget restrooms and maybe stop making out on the beaches right in front of kids and yes there might be stop going after little boys and then say “oh no that is not homosexual crime” Right if it was a hetro after a little girl I would say the same cut it off and stuff it in his mouth. I believe in equality, I don’t put my views on anyone nor do I discriminate but I cam called a racist, sexist, homophobe and in my case being a veteran suspected of torture and babykilling and this is just because I love being an Americian. So if these whinny punks want hate keep it up because at somepoint we will have enough of it then they can see it up close and personal and realize how mistaken they were when they lied about us.
artsykr – not to speak for anyone else (smile) but thanx much for sharing. I appreciate your sensitive, balanced response.
I guess the ‘take away’ here is that we all need to be a little more careful how much credence we give to these ‘mouthpiece’ types. Also, if one IS a member of a group, it is incumbent to pay attention to what the ‘leaders’ of the group are saying / doing, and if you don’t approve, take steps to change the leadership, or vote w/ feet.
See also AARP losing members in droves after supporting O’Care last summer.
That having all been said, I think the shirts are cute, however the group ‘pushing’ them does appear to be anti-gay marriage, probably not too supportive of adoption rights either..
But then, I’m just going on the perceived religious undertones..

As a trisexual, I am offended.

ALL white people are racist, just by being white. Or at least that seems to be the thesis behind this workshop:

Such complete idiocy.
These selfish idiots need to STFU! The militant gays don’t want equal rights, they want special rights.
They are no more special than anyone else, and don’t deserve any special treatment because of their chosen lifestyle.

I am in Scotland and would like to know if I can get this in the UK, I want a Stright Pride T-Shirt. As we Straight People now seem to be in a minority in the World.
My vote is to take each one of these intolerant liberal shits and put them on a boat, put it out sea and sink the motherfuckers!. They want everyone to be tolerant of issues they think are important but if you want to exercise your constitutional right of free speech they want to shut you up! Fuck them all!
It’s about time to kick some ass in this country!
