PHOENIX — He’s been at the center of the discussions and controversies surrounding illegal immigration enforcement in Arizona for quite a while.

On the day parts of Arizona’s immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is in the news for another reason: there’s a price on his head — allegedly offered by a Mexican drug cartel.

The audio message in Spanish is a bit garbled, but the text is clear.

“It’s offering a million dollars for Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s head and offering a thousand dollars for anyone who wants to join the Mexican cartel.”

A man who wants to remain anonymous says his wife received the text message Tuesday evening. It also included an international phone number and instructions to pass the message along.

“She showed it to me . . . I was kind of disgusted . . . I reported it to the Sheriff’s department yesterday . . . they said they were going to direct the threat squad on it.”

Lisa Allen of the Sheriff’s office says they believe the message originated in Mexico.

Is it me or does Michelle look like a Terminator protecting a scared Obama from what he thinks is a wild herd of racist Teabaggers?…

Ingraham told Hill that once Michelle Obama becomes a policy advocate for the Obama Administration with cabinet secretaries following her around on the campaign trail, she has stepped into the arena of ideas which are fair game to be questioned and tested. Then, Ingraham got off a truly great line:

The TV loudmouth caused outrage by claiming Muslim women wear G-strings under their burkas on last Sunday’s show.

And hate preacher Anjem Choudary warned Islamic fanatics will “go to war” to protect the honour of their women.

He declared: “Clarkson may think he was funny or was telling a joke when he said these things.

“But this is not funny to everyone. And by making fun or disrespecting the burka and Muslim women he has deeply offended many people.

“It is a grave offence to disrespect a Muslim woman. People have gone to war to protect the honour of Muslim women. And they will go to war again.

“Clarkson has stirred a hornets’ nest among young Islamic fundamentalists. He has fanned the flames of their cause. I believe that one day Britain, and indeed every part of the world, will be governed by and under the authority of the Muslims implementing Islamic Law.

“And it will happen. It may come peacefully. But it may come through a holy war that will see rivers of blood on the streets. Clarkson has brought this day closer.”

(Telegraph)- Israel’s president has accused the English of being anti-Semitic and claimed that MPs pander to Muslim voters.

Shimon Peres said England was “deeply pro-Arab … and anti-Israeli”, adding: “They always worked against us.”

He added: “There is in England a saying that an anti-Semite is someone who hates the Jews more than is necessary.”

His remarks, made in an interview on a Jewish website, provoked anger from senior MPs and Jewish leaders who said the 87-year-old president had “got it wrong”.

But other groups backed the former Israeli prime minister and said the number of anti-semitic incidents had risen dramatically in the UK in recent years.

The controversy follows the furore last week over David Cameron’s remark that Gaza was a “prison camp”, as he urged Israel to allow aid and people to move freely in and out of the Palestinian territory.

Mr Peres, a Nobel Peace Prize winner who is three years into his seven-year term as president and was awarded an honorary knighthood by the Queen in 2008, said that England’s attitude towards Jews was Israel’s “next big problem”.

“There are several million Muslim voters, and for many members of parliament, that’s the difference between getting elected and not getting elected,” he said.

“And in England there has always been something deeply pro-Arab, of course, not among all Englishmen, and anti-Israeli, in the establishment.

Notice that CNN did not report about the first strike by a Grad missile on an Ashkelon residential apartment building, they did put a headline when Israel retaliated and one Hamas-hole was sent to meet his virgin. Now Hamas bombarded an Israeli academic institute called Sapir College, and the only title found right now on the CNN website says, “Airstrike kills Hamas officer.”

My minimal analysis: Now that Hamas has won a propaganda war with aid from Turkey and the UN, and Israel was pushed to a corner and hesitates blockading its enemy in Gaza — the Iranian overlords of Gazastan terrorism swamp have ordered to test the waters regarding a new war. If you’d noticed, Ahmedinajad did threaten “3 new wars” last week.

Gaza rocket damages public building
A Qassam rocket fired from northern Gaza Saturday night hit the roof of a building in an educational institution located in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, outside of Sderot. There were no reports of injury.

Security forces and firefighters were alerted to the scene. On firefighter reported seeing smoke billowing from the building. “I have no doubt that had there been people in the building — it would have been a major disaster. It’s a miracle,” he said, adding that “serious” damage was caused to three rooms.

LAHORE: From January to June this year, 2,690 cases of violence against women were reported across Punjab, in which 2,909 women were targeted.

Former MPA Misbah Kaukab said violence against women was increasing rapidly. She said this while addressing a press conference organised by Aurat Foundation at the Lahore Press Club on Thursday. Joint Action Committee Convener Shahtaj Qizilbash, human rights activists Abdullah Malik, Nabeela Shaheen and Abid Ali were also present on the occasion.

Out of the 2,690 cases reported, there were 913 cases of abductions, 381 murders, 102 honour killings, 377 rape and gang rape and 166 cases of suicide.

(Telegraph) — Bradley Manning, the prime suspect in the leaking of the Afghan war files, raged against his US Army employers and “society at large” on his Facebook page in the days before he allegedly downloaded thousands of secret memos, The Daily Telegraph has learnt.

The US Army intelligence analyst, who is half British and went to school in Wales, appeared to sink into depression after a relationship break-up, saying he didn’t “have anything left” and was “beyond frustrated”.

In an apparent swipe at the army, he also wrote: “Bradley Manning is not a piece of equipment,” and quoted a joke about “military intelligence” being an oxymoron.

Mr Manning, 22, who is currently awaiting court martial, is suspected of leaking more than 90,000 secret military documents to the Wikileaks website in a security breach which US officials claim has endangered the lives of serving soldiers and Afghan informers.

Supporters claim the war logs leak exposed civilian deaths in Afghanistan which had been covered up by the military, and Mr Manning’s family, who live in Pembrokeshire, said he had “done the right thing”.

The Pentagon, which is investigating the source of the leak, is expected to study Mr Manning’s background to ascertain if they missed any warnings when he applied to join the US Army. The postings on his Facebook page are also likely to form part of the inquiry.

Mr Manning, who is openly homosexual, began his gloomy postings on January 12, saying: “Bradley Manning didn’t want this fight. Too much to lose, too fast.”

Listen as he tars the anti-mosque protestors with the ”ignorant and hysterical” brush then goes on to speak soothing words about the mosque and its dhimmi “COEXIST” supporters.

You’d never know he’s a Hezbollah-rationalizing, Jew-blaming, terror-apologizing, Sami Al Arian groupie from way back, would you?

If Al-Marayati is speaking out in favor of this mosque the Temecula protestors are onto something.

STATEN ISLAND (SI Live) — Although the deal has been taken off the table, non-Muslim community members rallied in front of a former Midland Beach convent earlier today to support those who had hoped to build a mosque at the site.

Holding signs that read “Shame on the Archdiocese,” “Bigots, Racists and Haters… Go Home” and “Islamophobia? No!!,” some 30 protesters outside the building owned by St. Margaret Mary’s R.C. Church said the day was about freedom of religion.

The rally was organized by Elaine Brower of Great Kills and Devra Morice of New Springville. They explained that the rally was scheduled before the July 21 decision by the church’s board to cancel the sale of the convent to the Muslim American Society.

“We’re Staten Islanders and we care that other Staten Islanders can not worship freely,” Ms. Brower said, adding, “I was raised Catholic and I’m disappointed by my faith. I can’t believe there’s so much religious intolerance.”

It’s pretty pathetic when the most powerful woman in America  the Speaker of the House won’t say whether or not she supports funding our troops in Afghanistan.

Christiane Amanpour Asks Nancy Pelosi on ‘This Week’: Is Afghan War Worth It?

In an exclusive interview on “This Week” with Christiane Amanpour, to air this Sunday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi dodged a question about how she would have voted on a bill funding the war in Afghanistan.

“Now you didn’t vote. I know the speaker doesn’t have to vote. But how would you have voted?” Amanpour asked Pelosi in the Speaker’s ceremonial office in the Capitol.

“Well we brought the bill to the floor,” Pelosi explained. “And that was a statement that said that we knew that our troops needed to have … would be provided for them. So we will never abandon our men and women in uniform,” she said. “On the other hand it gave our members a chance to express their view,” the Speaker said.

“How does this figure into our protecting the American people? Is it worth it?” Pelosi asked rhetorically.

“Is it worth it?” Amanpour repeated pointedly. “Is it worth it?”

“That is the question,” Pelosi replied.

“But that’s my question to you,” Amanpour pressed.

“Well we will, as I said, we will see the metrics as they unfold in the next few months,” the Speaker said.

(Guardian) — It may be one of the more audacious terrorist plots to be hatched in Afghanistan, but it was certainly not the most original. The same al-Qaida masterminds behind 9/11 attacks on New York and Washington planned to commit a similar attack in the capital of the country that once harboured them, according to a file among US military intelligence documents published this week by the WikiLeaks website.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, al-Qaida’s second in command, is said to have given the order for a team of 22 to board one or more planes at Kabul airport, hijack the aircraft and steer them toward a number of “important objectives”.

The targets were to include Hamid Karzai’s presidential palace, Nato headquarters, the British and US embassies and the Ariana hotel — the whole which the CIA rented and used as its station in Kabul.

The details of the plot have emerged as the leak of secret intelligence continues to create controversy in Kabul and Washington owing to the large number of references alleging that Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), supported the Taliban in Afghanistan.

. . . On the one hand the airline plot report is detailed, naming a number of conspirators, including Afghan or Pakistani generals and a pilot from the Afghan national carrier, who were allegedly involved in providing the hijackers fake IDs and “facilitating anti-coalition training”.

Whereas the 9/11 hijackers went to flight schools in Arizona and Florida, the Kabul plotters were due to receive flying lessons at a “private air club in Karachi”. Apparently their ideological indoctrination had already begun as they attended a madrasa in Khukitan, in Pakistan’s Swat valley.

All 22 were al-Qaida members and included Arabs, Pakistanis, Chechens and Uzbeks with fake Afghan IDs, the report claims. At an unspecified date they would enter Afghanistan and try to obtain Russian, Chinese and Iranian visas to allow them to fly to those countries.

“During the flight they will hijack the plane and conduct attacks in Kabul,” said the report. Although it is categorised as a “C3″, meaning the source is regarded as “fairly reliable” and the information is “possibly true”, the report is imprecise, both referring to a single plane being hijacked and to a number of different “attacks” against various targets.

Iran’s Fars news agency reported that an attempted hijack of an Ariana aircraft by a lone hijacker was foiled in May.

Dem leaders, donors to hold Rangel birthday bash at The Plaza.

Democratic leaders and major party donors plan to hold a lavish 80th birthday gala for Charles Rangel at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan next month, despite 13 ethics charges pending against the veteran lawmaker.

Lobbyists and other party donors received invitations this week to join Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and New York Gov. David Paterson at one of New York’s finest hotels to celebrate Rangel’s birthday.

Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg are also listed as featured guests, according to an invitation viewed by The Hill.

Some potential guests received the invitation a day after the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct issued a report accusing Rangel of multiple ethics violations.

While some Democrats think Rangel has become politically radioactive in Washington, the invitation lists a variety of enticements to get people to show up to his birthday bash and contribute to his campaign.

Aretha Franklin, the “Queen of Soul,” will serenade them and guests who pony up $200, $500, $1,000 or $2,500 for tickets. The funds will go to the Rangel Victory Fund, a campaign account.

The 2010 Rangel Birthday Gala is planned for August 11th despite the fact that Rangel’s actual birthday is June 11th.

(But why let a little thing like Charlie’s a crook and it’s not really Charlie’s birthday get in the way of shaking down people for cash.)

(Salon)- Newt Ginrich’s spokesman told Salon in a phone interview today that building a mosque at Ground Zero “would be like putting a statue of Mussolini or Marx at Arlington National Cemetery.”

Asked what the 19th century German philosopher had ever done to America, Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler said: ”Well let’s go with Lenin then.” Tyler explained that he was talking about Lenin, who died in 1924, as representative of the Cold War and ideologies opposed to America.

Tyler is a longtime Gingrich aide who leads the group Renewing American Leadership, which is currently raising money off of anti-mosque sentiment. The mission of the group is “to preserve America’s Judeo-Christian heritage by defending and promoting the three pillars of American civilization: freedom, faith and free markets.”

JAKARTA, July 28, 2010 (AFP) – Indonesia’s highest Islamic body has followed up a series of contentious fatwas with a new edict banning Muslims from watching TV gossip shows or having sex-change operations.

The increasingly assertive Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) said gossip shows about the intimate details of people’s private lives — a popular genre on Indonesian television — were immoral and threatened society.

“We considered it important to pass the fatwa as infotainment programmes may contain immoral material and violate the journalistic code of ethics,” MUI official Asrorun Niam Soleh said Wednesday.

“We’re not against all infotainment programmes… What’s haram (forbidden) is material that’s gossipy and exposes shameful details about people.

The ruling will be presented to the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission as a guideline for future infotainment programmes, he added.

…In the end it is just the SOP of the Republican Party. Find and issue and whip up hysteria, without consideration of the long term affects or what might be lost by the tactic.  It is just another of the legion of reasons why the modern Republican Party can not be trusted with the government of the United States or any single state for that matter. The radicalization they claim will come from mosques is just a pale reflection of the radicalization that has occurred in the ranks of their Party. If there is a group to fear, it is Radical Republicans, which is basically to say the most of the Republican Party at this point.

Last week’s NAACP-fueled debate about racism in the tea party movement appears to have led to some fresh introspection among tea partiers. On July 31, several tea party groups will come together in Philadelphia for a “Uni-Tea Rally” featuring a host of African-American conservative voices. Though it wasn’t planned as a response to the NAACP flap, those behind it are happy to take on repairing the damage done to tea party outreach by Mark Williams recently.

. . . Nine African-American conservatives are scheduled to appear at the July 31 rally, which is co-sponsored by the Independence Hall Tea Party Association in Philadelphia and the Uni-Tea organization. Emceeing the event will be David Webb, spokesperson for the Tea Party Federation.

“This was something that has been in the works for months,” Adams, who is president of the Independence Hall group, said. “It’s not a response to the charges by the NAACP.”

But “we recognize that we have to and want to reach out to minorities,” she added.

Adams told me the idea for the rally began months ago in the midst of charges of racism thrown at the tea party following some bigoted shenanigans during the health care debate. Adams said that then — as now — charges that the tea party is racist are false. But she said that it’s lucky her rally is happening now, after Williams’ post created a huge focus on racism in the tea party.
