Deputies, or members of the lower house, are tomorrow likely to approve the measure outlawing face-covering veils despite outrage among the country’s 5million Muslims.
Now a French tycoon is setting up a fund to help Muslim women pay ‘burka fines’ for hiding their faces in public.
Muslim businessman Rachid Nekkaz has today pledged to sell off 1million euros (£840,000) worth of property in Paris for the fund.
In an open letter published in national newspapers, he said a burka ban was unconstitutional and any woman fined for hiding her face could come to him for help.
The ban could be ratified in September when Senators are almost certain to approve the ban which has received overwhelming support from voters.
There was little resistance among lawmakers today as they debated the bill that proposes to fine wearers £140 and imprison men who force their wives to put on the outfit.
But the ban could be shot down by France’s constitutional watchdog or the European Court of Human Rights.
That could dampen efforts under way in other European countries toward banning the veils.

I don’t understand it. Why are these immigrants migrating to France and abroad? Why do they leave their country to begin with? War? Poverty? Oppression? There are many reasons.
But why would they migrate to a new country and keep the sheets? You would think they would want to free themselves of the sheets. But because they have been taught it is their religion, it will be hard to loose them.
Though it’s ridiculous and looks oppressive, these women have been taught it is part of their religion. It’s probably the same comfortable feeling they get when some wear a rosary or yamaka.

Yes, I agree it looks insane and it is oppressive. But by forcing laws to ban it, I think will only intensify the resolve and determination to face a “infidel persecution” for keeping to their faith.
It will only fuel and intensify the hate these violent throw-backs already feel for the western world. To me, it’s a no win situation.

Islam rules by fear. I doubt that many of these women have a choice as to whether or not they can “choose” to wear burqa or something western. Their male relatives dominate their lives, not the state. Its about idealogy not law.
France needs to remove the multicultural and religious rubric that Islam hides behind and then tell the EU to “fous le camps et morte.”

It is not a lie to say that in some muslim communities women wear their bin bags because of fear. This is not an understatement and anyway, a yarmulke or rosary do not convey the message that the wearer is unclean and should be kept out of sight. They do not imply that a person is some uncontrollable sex object or a subservient slave. The burqua on the other hand does exactly that! It is also a very intimidating sight because it reminds people of the presence of sharia law which is usually enforced using violence!
Sounds like it’s time to raise the cost of the fine.
Maybe he can get other Muslims to give their money to fines on Muslim women…
