We have disabled pinging on this post. | Weasel ZippersWARSAW, Poland — A huge outdoor art poster that blends Mickey Mouse’s image with that of a swastika and a nude woman’s body is causing a stir in Poland, where memories of the suffering inflicted by Nazi Germany remain strong.
The poster, which went up in June in the western city of Poznan just steps from a synagogue, is an Italian artist’s take on what he calls the “horrors” of the American lifestyle and is one piece of artwork in a contemporary art exhibition opening in the fall.
But the reaction shows that there is little appetite in Poland for satirical or artistic uses of images linked to Nazi Germany, which invaded Poland in 1939 and built ghettoes and death camps across the country in which millions were murdered.
“This art provocation is a form of violence against the sensitivity of many people,” said Norbert Napieraj, a city council member who asked prosecutors to ban the poster.
Prosecutors, however, determined that the poster is art and does not violate the country’s laws against glorifying Nazism.
The poster has been vandalized twice since it first went up, and on Tuesday was no longer stretched across a building in the city center. Despite the uproar, gallery director Maria Czarnecka said she plans to put it back up.
Italian artist, from the country that sided with Hitler representing the country that ended the war with a swastika. I’m guessing nobody will be remembering his name.
Poland is about forty years behind the times. They also sport a very liberal contingency that make absolutely no sense when it comes to culture or politics.

He should visit the United States. It’s not that bad. If you have a child here, it’s a citizen, a policy which under close scrutiny doesn’t resemble Nazi Germany one whit. It’s probably the nicest thing any country has ever done, ever. In all of history.
But all that aside, is the mouse/porn image a shot at the Jews? The Nazis used to compare the jews and mice all the time, and we all know who’s side Italy was on in WW2. I mean, some jews make porn, some non jews also make porn. I hardly see how that morphs into the “horrors’ of the United States, I mean, if you don’t like porn, don’t buy it.

I admit that there are those Italian men that live with their mommies until mommy dies, wear their waistbands up below their man-boobs and generally don’t contribute much other than body odor to the human race, but these guys are NOT the majority. Not by a long shot.
Being at least partly of the Italian persuasion myself, I can tell you that I was raised in a house whose prevalent attitude as “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!”
It didn’t.
In fact, I haven’t been “home” in almost thirty years, except to attend funerals of some real patriarchs in the family.
Who did the Italians give us? How about Leonardo DaVinci, Michaelangelo, Cristoforo Colombo, the list goes on and I won’t bore you with it….true, it seems like their society is in disarray since World War II, but that comes with “diversity”…..their political landscape looks like the moon. You have social democrats, conservative democrats, republicans of a sort, communists, fascists, anarchists, every spin and derivation of the aforementioned known to man. So things can get confusing.
Plus they have some of the greatest food on the planet. Ask anybody, if given a choice between oriental food and Italian food, which one they would choose.
One thing the Italians cannot be accused of……being boring!

Does the artist realize that the true irony is that he is from a country that actually advanced Nazi directives? Probably not. Just another attention whore, not an artist at all.
