Food Co-op in Rachel Corrie’s Hometown Boycotts Israeli Products…

Especially pancakes…

(Haaretz) — Americans are far more supportive of Israel than Europeans, and most initiatives to boycott Israeli goods or to divest funds from companies working with Israel are unsuccessful in the United States.

But such projects have recently become more widespread, especially among students – although most divestment decisions by student bodies are not implemented on the colleges’ management levels.

Last week, the board of directors of the Olympia Food Co-op in Washington state decided that no more Israeli products will be sold at its two grocery stores in the city.

“We met last Thursday for the board members meeting and a pretty large group – about 40 people – presented the boycott project and answered our questions,” Rob Richards, a board member, told Haaretz. “A couple of board members were concerned about what will be the financial effect on the organization, but it’s minimal. For me personally there is a moral imperative that goes beyond any financial concern. So we decided to adopt the boycott which went into effect the next day.”

Asked whether the boycott includes all products made in Israel, or only in settlements, Richards explained: “As far as I know – it concerns any Israeli products.

We exempted “Peace Oil” – it’s a joint product produced by the Palestinian farmers. Any product that is made by the company that works to improve the conditions of the Palestinians will be exempted.”

Because supporting jihad is the moral thing to do. Got to keep those rockets flying.

The Palestinians could improve their living conditions very easily. Stop attacking Israel with rockets. Go into honest peace negotiations. Value the lives of their children more than they hate Israel.

    Sadly, it’s not gonna happen.

Olympia is a sad sack place. You’ve got the Institute for the Terminally Incompetent (aka State gov’t ruled by the Queen) at the other end you’ve got St. Pancake’s alma mater Evergreen State College, which doesn’t have grades.

In between the two, boycotting Israel stands as the epitome of rational thought and moral judgment.

Look at it this way, with the gang in Olympia in charge WA State’s deficit is going to exceed CA’s on a per capita basis next year.

    YEAH WERE NUMBER 1!

Only thing that keeps me in this state is a good job with a company that is actually growing right now.

    Adam,

She was a leftist radical who sided with jihadists and died because she was too dumb to move out of the way of a bulldozer while trying to protect a jihadists’s home.

State Supreme court…I’m praying the third time is a charm.

It’s late and I already put this in the wrong spot on the wrong thread to an extent, but wanted to stick it here where I was talking about what’s happened to the west/NW over the years above…just went to AWD’s site and saw this great read there…weird how it worked this way…anyway here it is again..

Yep. The board members went along after being reassured the financial effect would be minimal.
Making a statement is great….but only if there’s no consequence involved.

I wonder if they would go along if it meant the co-op would lose tons on money.

I think a portion of the hippy/left/progressive hate towards Israel is the left’s contempt for Christians; moreover their hatred for the Evangelicals’ support of Israel.

A boycott against Israel is, in the simple mind of a lefty, an easy twofer: it punishes the evil apartheid Zionists racists, while simultaneously slapping Evangelicals in the face for their stupid rapture/armageddon beliefs.

Not to mention a boycott supports their lovely and peaceful muslim friends.

That is from W WA. People from E WA would never support a kook outfit like this co-op. And Evergreen College? Please . . . flake city.

Either Rossi or Didier can beat Murray if they campaign correctly. Didier has a good following on both sides of the mountain. He is an ex-pro football player and just about anything he puts his hands on succeeds. He has 3 Super Bowl rings, several successful businesses and still farms. Even the high school football team where he volunteered to serve as offense coordinator won state this last year without losing a game. Both Rossi and Didier are polling well against Murray. We just have to keep ACORN out of our election this time.

I am not sure in the big picture whatever this co-op does will not produce a blip on any radar. These idiots need to remember that Seattle was one of the cities on a target list for 9/11. Inconvenient truths really can hurt.

    Stuart:

Rachel Corrie was a leftard fool who never studied Islam or the problems it produces on a daily basis in the ME.

Nor did she bother to study the history of the so-called Palestinians.

    To wit:

“In a March 31, 1977 interview with the Amsterdam-based newspaper “Dagblad de Verdieping Trouw”, March 31, 1977, PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein said: “The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”

During a meeting with leaders of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in 1976, Syrian President Hafiz al-Asad referred to Palestine as a region of Syria, as Southern Syria. He then went on to tell the Palestinians:
“You do not represent Palestine as much as we do. Do not forget one thing: there is no Palestinian people, no Palestinian entity, there is only Syria! You are an integral part of the Syrian people and Palestine is an integral part of Syria. Therefore it is we, the Syrian authorities, who are the real representatives of the Palestinian people.”

In 1956, the representative of Saudi Arabia at the United Nations said: “It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but Southern Syria”.

BTW Sparky, those are Muslim sources that I quoted.

So you’re deploying? Why don’t you take a copy of the Koran, Hadith and Sira with you and study the enemy for a change. Or maybe you never studied Sun Tzu?

We don’t care nothing for jihadists or their sympathizers here.

You got a problem with that? Then you are what the military calls a sugar-coated fucktard. Or are you just another Fobbit?

You know what the term “dime out” means? Well that’s you buckwheat.

    Have a nice trip.

How would you like it if canadians had a beef with you and started coming over the border and do suicide bombings on innocent people? How would you like it if Canada dropped missles on the city you live in every day? Do you think you might have Post Tramatic Stress Disorder? How about digging a tunnel under the border and kidnapping a soldier who no one has seen for the last three years.Rachel Corrie should have had more sense then to stand in the way of bulldozers. At the end of the day until the palistinines accept Israels right to exist they will remain herded like animals. The palistinines where given a free democratic election and they voted for Hamas. Israel likes to flatter itself too much. It is a menace to the rest of the world that takes more than it contributes and consumes more than it produces.

If Israel is so indispensable to the well being of the world, then how on earth did the world manage to exist and prosper so well before it was created?

Also, Israel needs the U.S. more than the U.S. needs Israel. Israel is no ally of the U.S. That’s just an empty claim. Other than extorting billions of dollars from us and making us the enemy of the rest of the world, what has Israel ever done for the U.S. that makes them such a great ally?

  38. Adam says:

At the same time, however, the presence of a strong Israel has helped to halt the instability around the western Middle East that has plagued it for several millennia (going back to Biblical times). The last time that there was stability for a prolonged time before that was under the Roman Empire.

    Hi Bigots!

@ S. Wolf – Nice retort. Wow. You’ve come along way since the 5th grade. Homophobia is so gay.

@Elric66 – “5th columnist traitors like Saint Pancake.” So are you implying that Rachel was Israeli?! Do you understand the term “5th columnist?” Try again; post an intelligent comment and I will respond.

@ 9-11 infidel- Let’s assume Rachel was a “leftard fool” which I believe translates to retarded liberal fool in big-boy English. The consensus on this blog is that for this “crime” she was punished appropriately. Seems a little harsh even by Old Testament standards. I don’t recall God telling people to crush retards. BTW, nice job cutting and pasting all that drivel regarding Palestine but it has nothing to do with the conversation that we are having….so let’s try and stay focused on the topic at hand, to wit: the tragic death of Rachel Corrie and the subsequent denigration of her memory by coarse and simple bigots. Finally, you haven’t earned the right to use military slang so put away those oily old copies of SOF that you read with one hand and quit pretending; I see right through you. p.s. the word Sira is not generally associated with Islam, you probably meant Sura.

    @Sadie- the U.S. side.

@ S. Wolf – The man in the White House was elected and is the Commander in Chief, chosen by the American people. Politically mature people understand this.

@ Lovecat – Palestinians are Semitic right? So if one advocates justice on their behalf how can one simultaneously be anti-semitic? Maybe you neo-cons should come up with a new term and since you are not that clever, I will help you. Your thought police could bandy about a new, even more nefarious term for people who disagree with you – SemiAntiSemitics – this brand should definitely stifle all conversation and dialogue on the issue of peace. (You are welcome.)

@ Mark – I appreciate your moderate tone, although I believe your perception of the situation has been distorted by a misrepresentation of the facts regarding the larger issue. Rachel was a humanist that believed in the good of humanity and the good in people. For this she died. She made eye-contact with the man that seconds later would kill her. She believed even in his humanity.

@Adam – what about Ottoman rule? Get back to History class young man! I want a 5000 word essay comparing the Pax Romana to the stability of Palestine under Ottoman rule before you post any additional drivel.

    Hi Stuart.
I accidentally stumbled on to this web site thats sole content is to defame Rachel. Thank you for standing up to the grotesque mob. It is interesting how a group of strangers with anonymity can demonize a person that they know nothing of. And at that for an act of humanity? I heard recently a term for this kind of internet behavior, the “f*ckwad theory”.

Rachel was my best friend. I feel that I should share this letter with you as a thank you for your attempt to squelch the hateful rhetoric and to wish you luck on your 3rd deployment.

Rachel Corrie’s words: a letter to a solder in desert storm, 1991.
    She was twelve.

    Dear Soldier,

I guess I don’t really understand the world, because I don’t see why you aren’t here. Why people can’t make compromises. Why peace is still a vision and war is our reality. I must be ignorant, because I believe that it’s unnecessary for forty thousand children to die every day. I know I am just a little sixth grader who writes poetry and worries about grades and makeup, but I worry about bigger things. I worry about the whales dying, about the ozone layer depleting, about trees being cut down. I guess everyone worries about those things somewhat.
The ice has been creeping into puddles with cold jutting hands. As I walk on the grass in my yard each morning, it crunches from the stiffness of the frost. The sky is a canvas stretched gray from one edge of the horizon to the hills. It is spattered with circling white seagulls glaring down with yellow eyes onto the earth. There is such beauty in the way the gulls turn their wings and soar in turing tranquillity.
There are a thousand things that echo through my mind when I think of this planet. Peace and cooperation are at the front of my mind.

    - Rachel Corrie.

I hope this letter finds you well. Thank you again for honoring Rachel who was a kind person and would have found humor at the term St. pancake.
