Chicago Democrat: Only Blacks Should be Considered Minorities, Says Women, Asians, Hispanics “Shouldn’t Be Able to Use That Title”

(Chicago Sun Times) – Mayoral challenger James Meeks scrambled Thursday to put out a political fire touched off by his suggestion that only African-Americans should be eligible for city contracts set aside for minorities and women.
Meeks made the statement on Wednesday during an interview on WVON-AM (1690). It happened during a discussion of why African-American businesses got a 7 percent sliver of Chicago’s $1 billion spending pie through Aug. 31, down from 8 percent a year ago.
“The word ‘minority’ from our standpoint should mean African-American. I don’t think women, Asians and Hispanics should be able to use that title,” he said.
“That’s why our numbers cannot improve — because we use women, Asians and Hispanics who are not people of color, who are not people who have been discriminated against.”
And yes, he is a Democrat even though the above article doesn’t mention it.

I seem to recall that all the civil rights acts and affirmative action programs were enacted mainly to lift blacks out of poverty yet Asians and Hispanics who have succeeded have done it on their own. (Ilegals notwithstanding) Bill Cosby had the right ideas and he was villified for them. People will vote for Meeks because it’s easier to buy into victimhood than to actually face the truth.

Learn to manage your company or move up in the ranks because you are a better manager, technician or even housekeeper. Keep your nose clean. Take care of your family. Mary that woman or man who fathered or birthed your sons and daughters. Get your ass off welfare no matter what it takes. Get an real education. Work hard. Don’t take “no” or “you can’t do it” for an answer. Be creative. Invent something people want. Get real. Grow up. Find God. Be a good citizen. Help others the best you can. Live a life of service because the more you give the more you get. And remember, you too are going to die some day and you will be remembered not by what you did, but what you didn’t do.
The article didn’t need to mention he was a Democrat. Chicago=Democrats and thats all the MSM will report on anyway. This crap is getting old. Get a job and work hard like everyone else.

Being a first generation American, 1/2 German and 1/2 Mexican. I am technically more of a minority than this guy is. He is black, his family has probably been here for several generations and he most likley does not have any other race mixed into his blood line.

The whole “people of color” vs. “people of not color” thing irritates me to no end. Everyone has SOME color in their skin. Even albinos are pink. I happen to be sort of pale peach with light brown spots. Who is this doofus to decide who has color and who doesn’t? Or does he just mean people of the RIGHT color?
