FCC Votes 3-2 to Regulate the Internet Via Net Neutrality…

The Obama regime is now using the FCC to pass laws even though that is Congress’ job. Another shameful power-grab…
Comments & pings are closed.(Jonathon Seidl)- The FCC has voted 3-2 along political lines to extend the government’s reach and regulate the internet via net neutrality.
The vote to institute net neutrality rules marks the first time the government has stepped into the world of internet regulation. Proponent’s of the net neutrality rules say that the move allows the government to stop companies from controlling too much of the internet, while opponents view it as a scary example of government control and an impediment of private business.
“As we stand here now, the freedom and openness of the Internet are unprotected… . That will change once we vote to approve this strong and balanced order,” FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said at a commission meeting on Tuesday, according to The Hill.

So,this is a first step in taking over the interwebs? Is that what its all about?
and Congress does nothing….
This is just a waste of time, folks. It’s already been decided by a federal court that the FCC has no jurisdiction over the internet. Just wait for the lawsuit. Waste of time and money. Sums up the Obeyme Administration.
Yeah…and START just passed 67-28.
Color me furious today.
They are going to vote on amendments yet, so don’t quite understand all that is yet to be done.
As to the FCC…lawsuits will be filed, if not already being done..SCOTUS will be visited again.
This is BS…Chavez has to be fuming that O/Soros beat ‘em to the punch.
This is a violation of our First Amendment rights. These people have violated their Oaths of Office to protect and defend our Constitutional rights.
But who will prosecute them? Holder? Boehner? McConnel? Larry Klayman? Obama? Pisslosi? Reid? Congress? Any of the so-called “right wing” legal organizations like the ACLJ?
No. None of them will although any one of them can.
Now you all must ask yourself “WHY NOT”?
Is it a fool’s errand? Is there not a venue in the law? Will not the judiciary rule “no standing” to bring the suit or action?
Why are these people hiding from the law? Why are they the cowards?
Trust me. This can be done. It takes courage, some intelligence and training (it’s not rocket science) to initiate the process and a willingness to die for your cause. I say that last criterion because you can expect that “they” will do anything they can to stop you, including arrest, destruction of your life and assassination to keep themselves in power.
This is what the Founders of our country pledged when they declared independence from the British. Do people have that same level of commitment today? I think yes. It is developing in the TEA Party. And “they” know it.
****
If these edicts end up in court, what judge will uphold the First Amendment?
Yea got the left fake fuming that this gives power to AT&T and will cripple the net..AT&T already has plenty of exclusive network shit on their damn iPhone…picking battles I guess. Stupid power grabs since he knows all this would have been dead next year. DE-FUND THEM ALL RON!!!!!
@Diamond Girl
We are witnessing the intentional and wanton evisceration of our Constitution by congress, the administration and the judiciary.
The government of the United States of America has declared WAR on the American People.
What would be nice to see is the two latest appointees to SCOTUS thrown out because Ogama wasn’t born here, the entire government bureaucracy housecleaned of those who are clearly traitors to the Constitution and The People, and a congress with enough good people to regain the respect of The People.
Does your Representative and Senator represent you to the government or the government to you?
Does he or she tell the government what those people who elected them want the government to do, or does he or she tell YOU what the government wants YOU to do?
This bill was written by the telecommunications industry and just gives them more power. It is not protecting anything other than corporations’ ability to monetize our rights.
How long before folks vote with violence? I don’t know but the assault on the Constitution cannot go on unabated.
Ru… is that really you…. no snarky comment against us on this issue…?
Rocketman
that’s what they want us to do … use violence…
then they can use that as an excuse to justify martial law…
and no we can’t keep sitting on our hands either…
I don’t know what the answer is..
Rob,
Nah, I split with a lot my liberal brothers and sisters when it comes to free speech and defend it to the death.
The interwebs is a red pill/blue pill problem. The government shouldn’t be regulating it and the corporations should not be monetizing free speech. This bill just gave both more power to do so.
As far as I’m concerned, the one entity that can restrict Internet freedom is the government.
I called my Senator, Johnny( i’m a fool in love with Obamafuhrer)
Isakson and told him under no circumstance could the good people
of georgia support the Stop/Start treaty and that rag tag pos pay’s no
attention as if we only matter when it’s election year…..
It’s time we start taking names and doing the right thing when it rolls
around to electing these flea bags we call our leaders….
Go Tea Party…..

A bill is something introduced into Congress which, if passed, will eventually become law.
This is not a “bill”—this is a unilateral regulatory overreach by an out-of-control agency that has decided to impose regulations in an area not covered by the legislation that created the agency and defines the limits of its power.
if we go beyond the good/bad for whomever stuff this is still ANOTHER layer of government.
never a good thing.
Ru…
“…The government shouldn’t be regulating it and the corporations should not be monetizing free speech….”
We may make you a convert yet…
The FCC is “protecting” us from what?
We were so giddy after November and Reid dropping the Omnibus that we took our “eye off the ball” and got DADT repealed, START, FDA power and now FCC power.
Of course, it did not help with RINO’s Brown, Murcowski, Snow-job, Collins and the rest.
We need to *REMEMBER* these people and KICK THEM OUT next time they are up for election.
I finally caught up somewhat regarding the START Treaty vote…final vote is tomorrow.
Not looking good, have to see what happens with the amendments, then I’ll know more.
TRB…
Totally agree with everything you stated…have to run for just a bit, be back later to read some more here etc.
@BigJake
we’ve got two Pauls in our corner that we know will give them hell in both houses and the one in the Senate is directly mine. Just like all the rest of his garbage he’s attempting to force upon us fiat I don’t count us out yet as long as we have those that still fight for us in the capital. Even then we can still take it to them by taking away this garbage state to state. We won’t forget this encroachments and forgiveness is what the Creator has the heart for but right now man has to focus on stomping this scum into oblivion.
Rob,
“We may make you a convert yet…”
Never! It’s the conservative tea party movement who support the awful decision in Citizens United which sold out our voting rights. Its the conservative movement who started the TSA and allows the FCC to sell public airwaves to megacorporations and fine people for cursing. It is the conservative movement that opposes regulating megacorporations from swindling people on mortgages and from polluting the shit out of the air I breathe. It is conservatives who want to see “God” put into our government institutions and make my agnostic butt swear and pledge to him. It is the conservatives who can somehow justify and support the tobacco and alcohol industry, yet say weed and prostitution are bad.
So yeah, we may agree on somethings, but I’m never coming over to the dark side.
from my cold dead hand is all i got to say on any of it demockracy in action in a republic
many conservatives been fighting for years against the unpatriot act.
but too many believe it makes them safer.
Ru…”Its the conservative movement who started the TSA…”
It was, at the time, a stop gap measure…
it was supposed to formalize and standardize airline security…
which never… we know now… never materialized and is corrupt beyond what was intended… the TSA should be disbanded…
and isn’t a removal of “God”… enforcing a religion too… namely… atheism
we could go round and round on these issues…
there’s duplicity on your side as well…
@ dmacleo i sure don’t believe it 2nd amendment I do believe in though grow that Gov’t ment and bind thee lil people goes on and on
Rupaula , what do you know about the dark side ? long on opinion , short on the facts . Go crawl in your rat hole .
Ru…
As far as the FCC goes…I can’t stand them either…
I’ve been a fan of Stern since the early 80′s when he was on AM radio…
what the FCC did to him during the Clinton years was outrageous… as well..
Clinton and Congress was Democrat controlled at that time…
The FCC was in Democrat favor too… if I remember correctly…
Don’t forget Al Gore’s wife Tipper ….
when she labeled the “evil” metal music on her crusade…
I was and still am a die hard metal fan… I hated her and her monotone ranting against the music industry….
do you remember that…??
like I said…. there is a lot of duplicity on your side as well…
Tipper Gore co founded the PMRC… that’s Glo Bull Al Gore’s husband…well ex husband..
She tried to legislate music way back in the 80′s and she was/is a Democrat
married to a Democrat politician…
Don’t speak ill of the Washington Wifes Rob sarc on
Hey steven jeffries…LOL…I couldn’t stand them then… and still can’t today…
thanks to them… I have warning labels on my music….
I don’t need warning labels on my music…. I want it profane…
and don’t need the government to tell me… what I already know…
So what happens when liberal tech companies start blocking or charging consumers for access to conservative blogs?
Uggh, the PMRC. When Jon Denver is against you, you should probably realize you are on the wrong side of the issue.
Remember the “Fuck the PMRC” t-shirts? Those were great.
Just to nitpick two points because I’m bored:
“Clinton and Congress was Democrat controlled at that time…” For two years maybe. Congress has been Repulican almost continually from ’95-’07.
“and isn’t a removal of “God”… enforcing a religion too… namely… atheism” No, I hate this faulty logic people use all the time. Removing god is just removing god. Removing god and stating you are doing so because he/she/it doesn’t exist is enforcing atheism.
@Dawg and All,
Maybe what we should be advocating is instead of the repeal of the 17th Amendment, we should be advocating the term of senators, who now no longer represent State’s Rights issues, to 2 year terms just like the members of the House?
If they cannot act responsibly like grownups, then we should be able to kick them out. Right now, senators aren’t worth much more than a spittoon of warm piss.
From 1990–2004, a total of $2.5 million in fines were issued to owners of radio stations that carried the show by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), for what it considered indecent material.
So the Dems had their hand in it as well… it’s not one sided here Ru…
both sides are definitely guilty….
And like I said I am no fan of the FCC… so don’t pin that on me…
and the FCC was/is looking for ways to regulate satellite radio too…
so please…
1) To those of you who think this will go to the Supremes and get straightened out. Let me remind you that Obama has stacked the court there. Don’t expect common sense rulings from the wise Latina or that blockheaded idiot Kagan who has never even tried a case in her life.
2) If, by some miracle we were able to beat this thing and get it removed, I’m with the people here who think Genachowski should be arrested for pulling a stunt like this. I’m contacting my rep to see what the chances are for this.
Satellite radio broadcasting was first authorized in 1997, when two licenses were issued to the companies now known as XM and Sirius.
Their applications had taken seven years for the Federal Communications Commission to approve, mainly because the National Association of Broadcasters charged that the new service threatened “traditional American values of community cohesion and local identity.”
(It also threatened revenues. But at the time, the FCC found that traditional radio stations drew 80 percent of their income from local advertising, which suggested that national competition would not be too damaging to existing stations.)
The irony, of course, was that just as lobbyists for traditional broadcasters were making arguments about the integrity of regional identity, local stations were airing more and more national programming, and companies like Infinity and Clear Channel were launching their ambitious industry consolidation.
But the NAB pressure worked both to delay satellite rivals and to get the FCC to craft license rules that seemed to ensure that satellite service would air only national shows.
I’m going out on a limb here and congratulate Rupaula for at least standing up for his/her beliefs and putting an argument up. WAAAyyyyy better than the usual “Bush lied Palin’s dumb” trolls who come in and out of here.
Rupaula, another time I would love to go point by point with you on your beliefs but today, we ALL have to stand up against this unconstitutional and it IS unconstitutional power grab by the FCC.
this passage from here:
http://radio.about.com/od/createinternetradio/a/aa061404a.htm
But, if you are concerned about censorship of your Internet radio station, be assured the F.C.C. will not poke its nose into your business.
There is one caveat, though. Thierer also writes:
An important and troubling shift may be developing regarding the way lawmakers regulate mass media in the United States. During recent congressional hearings on broadcast television and radio violations of Federal Communications Commission indecency standards, several lawmakers hinted that they believed federal censorship efforts should extend beyond licensed TV and radio operators to unlicensed media sources, such as cable, satellite, and Internet providers. And a debate is about to take place on the Senate floor during which some lawmakers have said they will attempt to apply indecency regulations on such subscription-based services.
We will have to wait to see whether further restrictions come about in the future. Personally, I don’t believe Congress will attempt to regulate Internet or satellite radio because it would be a highly unpopular move and any action would be bitterly denounced and fought against by not only civil liberties organizations but by citizens en masse who use these services.

I don’t know when this was written… but it looks like the author will have to revise his thinking…
and BTW Ru…. this time it is because of the Democrats……
To TheRealBob and Everyone Else,
Maybe we should just go back to “year zero”. Not in a “Pol Pot-ish” sort of way, but in a “more close to the Constitution” kind of way.
Our leadership has forsaken us, across the board. The Senate no longer represents states’ interests, and the People go “unheard”. Our government is “regulating” us into slaves.
Obviously, violence is not the answer. Obviously, these people who rule (yes, RULE) over us will not be prosecuted. We need someone to work on hitting the “re-set” button in this country. I am willing to suffer in the short-term to gain true freedom for the long-term.
I say let’s go for “Year Zero”.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent United States government agency, directly responsible to Congress so how can they just do what they want what bull shit [ socialism will never work people like owning stuff] a quote from Frank Zappa wink wink nudge Rob
Rob,
“and BTW Ru…. this time it is because of the Democrats……”
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t and won’t stick up for a lot of Democrats’ actions. I have been registered independent or third party for many years (admittedly, my first year of voter registration was a Dem). I’m a liberal leaning libertarian and love trolling here against many of the backwards thinking, lack of critical thinking and lack of self analysis ideas of the current conservative movement.
However, when it comes to censorship and free speech, you are correct, both parties are pretty damn awful.
Dang Ru to be honest with you lately i can’t see the difference between dem’s and Repubs They all think They’re above us commoners
“To those of you who think this will go to the Supremes and get straightened out. Let me remind you that Obama has stacked the court there. Don’t expect common sense rulings from the wise Latina or that blockheaded idiot Kagan who has never even tried a case in her life.”
Nah, it’s already precedent in D.C. federal court. The internet is outside the FCC’s jurisdiction. This time, they argued that the internet needed to be regulated like Ma Bell, pursuant to decades-old statutes that never contemplated the very idea of an “internet.” It was roundly rejected, but they proceeded with this power grab anyways.
Seriously, this will get slapped down. Hard.
I’ll second Iron Maiden here…
Ru… you have been quite open and honest here in regards to this issue
Thank You
I’ve come to realize quite a few things about the “establishment”…
Over the last several years…In both parties… and I’m not pleased…
We need to get back to a more common sense approach to government
and how it operates… freedoms are being over run… while these “establishment”
types consolidate their power over us
Congress shot this down, the court ruled against it. It seems to me that what the FCC has done is illegal, so why should these regulations hold up?
How about if the new Congress just withholds funding the FCC until they rescind these rules that were struck down twice?
Is’nt it illegal for Obama to be doing these back door deals? When is that going to have some consequences?

“It’s the conservative tea party movement who support the awful decision in Citizens United which sold out our voting rights. ”
We have a Democrat president who collected campaign funds from Mickey Mouse and thousands of Mickey’s closest friends in Gaza and other parts of the world and someone thinks that Citizen United was a bad decision. This is insane.
One would have to really hate freedom and democracy to come up with the fact that Citizens United sold out anyone’s voting rights, when Mickey Mouse is allowed to buy an entire nation and no one says a word.
