Mass School: On Second Thought, Having Parents Sign Permission Slip to Recite Pledge of Allegiance is a Bad Idea…

The “we hate America” crowd hardest hit…
(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A Brookline school is now saying permission slips won’t be necessary for students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Edward Devotion School, which has not recited the Pledge of Allegiance in seven years, will say the Pledge over the school’s intercom once a week beginning next month.
Gerardo Martinez, the school’s principal, initially said the permission slips were sent to encourage parents to have a discussion with their kids about the Pledge.
The principal also says he sent this note out to parents just to let them know it was okay if they do not want their kids to participate.
Unfortunately for the principal, the thought of a permission slip to recite the Pledge set off a fire storm. Eventually the principal sent out a second note to parents explaining that it was not mandatory to sign the permission slips.
Update to this story.

Maybe Gerardo Martinez should be fired for being an anti-American union thug trying to dictate to little kids that they shouldn’t be loyal to their country.
Gerardo Martinez sounds like he would rather have the “educators” lead the kids in the pledge to Mexico? Si?
I highlighted educators because hopefully some of you heard Mark Stein filling in for Rush yesterday.
He had a moonbat “educator” call up to say that we should be give peace a chance and the START treaty was good and that the money should go toward the children.
Stein, who has a wonderful way with words, ripped her throughout the show and was hilarious.
I bet now they just won’t tell the parents when they’re going to do things that we would object too, or Not do things we would want them to do..
@Sickofobama,
Amen! Well said.
Gerardo Martinez is walking talking living breath proof of the fact that the only people with lower SAT scores than teachers are journalists.
Wow, people sure do jump to conclusions. Has anyone considered that:
1) The “so-called” permission slips could just as easily have been intended to make it HARDER for kids NOT to say the pledge! Instead of just bowing out, they would have needed their parents to approve. Instead, right wing nutjobs get their undies in a bunch and the school backs off making it likely that fewer kids will wind up saying the pledge. Nice going!
2) This is a principal who made a change to make sure the pledge would get said when that hadn’t been the norm for the school. So we’re jumping on someone who is trying to make sure the pledge gets said?
Get out of Taxachussets
NOW!
I think if they just started saying it parents/aclu would have made a big issue of it so they tried to be proactive and head that off.
whats wrong here is its been 7 years since its been said there.
If you anti-American, progressive, liberal democrap scumbags think this country is so horrible that you should have to say the POA, I challenge you to pack up your troubled, disfunctional, communist families and GET THE HELL OUT OF THE USA!
Once a week…not everyday in session?
Wow, just wow~
sarc off/
What a nation we have become, forget what we were founded on, and abide by liberal upbringing (because that’s a winner, right?) and cast aside all patriotism for the country that protects your ass each and everyday. We’ve turned into a country that baby-sits the child that whines and cries the most; instead of just taking that child and giving it discipline.
Devotion school has become filled with Israeli kids, with Israeli parents who think America is an awful country.
Let the pledge be said and dont complain. You arent forced to serve in the army, so suck it up and recite the pledge, like most other schools do.
And for the parents who complain, none of them have ever defended this country because all they care about is money.
Why isn’t is said daily, as has been done in schools for many many years.
It is not this mans job to make decisions as he’s tried to do.
A daily Pledge of Alligence to the flay that takes a couple of minutes, should be the only thing acceptable, and it should be said by the children, not the principal on a loud speaker to the children.
I’m of the opinion he needs to go. I strongly question who and what was behind this? Someone needs to look for answers
