NYC Union Bosses Intentionally Slowed Blizzard Cleanup to Protest Budget Cuts…

Reason #459,097,987 unions have no place in 21st century America…

(NY Post)- These garbage men really stink.

Selfish Sanitation Department bosses from the snow-slammed outer boroughs ordered their drivers to snarl the blizzard cleanup to protest budget cuts — a disastrous move that turned streets into a minefield for emergency-services vehicles, The Post has learned.

Miles of roads stretching from as north as Whitestone, Queens, to the south shore of Staten Island still remained treacherously unplowed last night because of the shameless job action, several sources and a city lawmaker said, which was over a raft of demotions, attrition and budget cuts.

“They sent a message to the rest of the city that these particular labor issues are more important,” said City Councilman Dan Halloran (R-Queens), who was visited yesterday by a group of guilt-ridden sanitation workers who confessed the shameless plot.

Halloran said he met with three plow workers from the Sanitation Department — and two Department of Transportation supervisors who were on loan — at his office after he was flooded with irate calls from constituents.

The snitches “didn’t want to be identified because they were afraid of retaliation,” Halloran said. “They were told [by supervisors] to take off routes [and] not do the plowing of some of the major arteries in a timely manner. They were told to make the mayor pay for the layoffs, the reductions in rank for the supervisors, shrinking the rolls of the rank-and-file.”

Rest here>>>

A contract is a two-way street pal! The Unions should be summarily banned and the bosses should be sent packin’! What kind of work do you think they will find??? If you want a job then you work! You don’t pretend to work at the taxpayers expense!

FIRE THEM ALL! Just like Reagan fired the Air Traffic Controllers. A bum off the street could drive as well as many of the union members after a few short instructions.

    Muslimania-
You beat me to the punch!
This is what happens when you have voters that think more about what they can get for free than about leadership.

Bloomie could start by stopping the automatic deduction for union dues from city paychecks – make the bosses go collected there own cash.

Yes – and because of this who knows how many innocent people died. This union should be sued out of existance, everyone fired and a new companies awarded contracts.

I’m sure many of you have seen various reports of the infant who died 10 hours after 911 was called. I’ve included just one of the sources. There are many.

NC Chik is right about suing them but doesn’t go far enough. This isn’t just civil negligence. This is criminally negligent homicide.

They should go to prison. And be made to drop the soap.

Think about this, the union’s boss is not Bloomberg but the tax payers of NYC. They were just given the finger and told to go to hell. This is the future of our country. Obama will bend over backwards for this group of thugs and any other union that needs to be bailed out. Any supervisor that was complicit in this should be fired. Is there any wonder why people are pouring out of the Northeast for the West and the South?

This is the way it’s going to be for a long time unless we get obama out and start kicking Unions asses to the curb.

Good luck on firing anybody responsible. They’ll be ‘suspended’ with pay and told to report to an isolation room for the next 12 years until they retire with full pension.

  20. Desperado says:

Maybe there are some good Unions. Maybe they started out to protect the employee, but most of them have evolved into America’s worst nightmare, IMO. Cities are going under because of pension payments and benefits that were negotiated by the Unions and unstainable in the long-term, by the taxpayer. Organized mobs of mean and ugly members are gathering and harrassing, intimidating, trouble-making until they get their own way, like a child throwing a temper tantrum. Those who should care or take action against some of the more questionable behavior, many times just look the other way. My personal experience with this would be an incident years ago in which my wife and sister took a job through a temp agency, where they were to help with a production order at a manufacturing plant where employees were primarily Union members . There was a deadline on an order, and it was fast approaching, and you would think that would indicate to most people that one needed to push to complete the project on time. However, the non-union members were treated like @#$%. They were running circles around the regular workers, and were told to stop working, in no uncertain terms. They were informed that there was a certain output agreed upon, and they were making the union workers look bad. It wasn’t that they all couldn’t be more productive, it was that they were only going to do so much, and no more. Both women along with fellow temps, were harrassed each day in some way, and their work was sabotaged unmercifully. One morning they went in, and the bin they had stacked parts in, the previous day, had been “contaminated with urine”, and they were told to unpack it and find a new bin. They were given no rubber gloves, and the “good ole boys” stood around and watched, laughing about the situation. Several of the workers went to a supervisor, then the Department Head, and then the Temp Agency. They were told that there was nothing anyone could do for them, just to “suck it up” and try to “get along”. OMG! My wife called me on her break, later that day,and told me what had happened. God knows we needed the money at the time, but I told her to get my sister and get the HELL out of there.

I hope this isn’t the norm, but we had our fill of the Unions and their tactics; maximum benefits and pay, for minimum production. I still don’t “get it”.
(Sorry so long. Just had to vent.)

  21. Another_Infidel says:
    December 30, 2010 at 11:53 am

The union where I worked would pull one of the so-called “job actions” or “slowdowns” too, whenever they weren’t getting their way. It left us all wondering how we would know that they’d slowed down.

I’ll bet most of these union goons have EZ Pass on turnpikes and bridges and use the self-checkout in the supermarkets putting lots of mostly union people out of work.

In a former life, I was a merchant seaman. We were forced to join SIU (Seafarers International Union). This was in the 60′s when the minimum wage was $1.25. We were paid extremely well, had three choices of entree at lunch and supper, were not allowed to do “unnecessary” work except from 8 to 5. Since my watch was 12 to 4 (AM and PM), I did nothing during the nighttime except drink coffee. All these were union rules. The American Merchant Marine is virtually extinct now because carriers can ship much cheaper with foreign crews and ships. The union literally put its members out of a job.

As someone who has worked for/with family owned businessess and dealt with union reps outside of my jobs, from my own experiance, unions are nothing but organized crime unions. Even those that may not be owned/ran by mob thugs, they sure know how to act like mob thugs. Until something drastic is done to curb these union bosses actions, we can expect nothing but more problems from unions.

    NCchik and dmacleo,
Thank you for mentioning the baby who died and the stroke victim.
If there were justice in this country, the damn unions — and the damn politicians who enable them — would be prosecuted for negligent homicide.
