WaPo: Low-Income People in Favor of Tax Cuts Same People Who Supported Slavery…

More proof liberalism is a mental disorder.

Quoted without Comment — NRO

James Loewen in the Washington Post: “[T]wo ideological factors caused most Southern whites, including those who were not slave-owners, to defend slavery. First, Americans are wondrous optimists, looking to the upper class and expecting to join it someday. In 1860, many subsistence farmers aspired to become large slave-owners. So poor white Southerners supported slavery then, just as many low-income people support the extension of George W. Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy now.”

Where did James Loewen learn history? More importantly, where did he learn journalism?

    Degrees by mail?

Democrats, the party of slavery, Jim Crow, segregation — And Woodrow Wilson, was the worst slavery proponent of the Democrats.

Slavery provided the model for Progressivism. It was an example of a people ruled by an ‘elite minority’.

Hat tip to Lowen who, in one short paragraph, was able to tie together such liberal classics as slavery, class warfare, Bush and American stupidity.

Mr. Loewen, the NYTimes is on the line…

So, poor people who back tax cuts are selfish and greedy and would have backed slavery if living in that time. In other words, vote Democrat, or we will have to assume you are a selfish, money grubbing racist.
I would love to know the source of his crazy theory here.

Now THAT’s pretty convoluted logic. Guess what? Not everyone in the south was a slave owner. Not everyone in the south wanted to be a slave owner. Another fact: most folks in the south, including slave owners, were, wait for it, yes! Democrats!

And what does that have to do with today? Admittedly not much. Because this is not the USA of 1860. It isn’t even the USA of 1960. Nope, today is the USA of 2011. Today’s Democrat party is the party of Socialism; should more properly be called the “Democratic Socialist” party, or Social Democrat party as it is in most of the rest of the western world. Democrats today are not interested in ordinary folks joining the upper class. Those at the top are already there, and have no intention of having those in the unwashed masses joining them. Those at the bottom are content to be taken care of.

Fortunately, most people in the US are not Social Democrats; the American Dream is alive for most. By describing those in the “lower classes” as “wonderous optimists”, Loewen is telling Americans to forget about it. You will never rise above your station in life. You have just been fed a line of bull by the rich in order to get you to support their lifestyle, which is counter to your best interests.

Unfortunately for Mr. Loewen, it isn’t a line of bull. History is replete with Americans who started with nothing and rose to the top. Such folks invariably worked hard to get there. There is no guarantee that you will wind up Bill Gates, but for the most part, you don’t stay at the bottom with this type of work ethic either. It should also be noted that just because you make it to the top, there is no guarantee you will stay there either. There is such a thing as downward mobility too.

History is also replete with those who work hardly at all, depending on others to make their way in life. Typically these individuals do not make it to the top and stay pretty much mired in the lower tiers of society.

What the Social Democrats would like to ensure is that they who are at the top do not become victims of downward mobility. And they want to convince you that upward mobility is a myth. This is because in their world, it will be.

The lower folks are on the income tree the greater the competition they are with slavery or free labor. Poor people do not support slavery. Supremacist and racist support slavery.

-Jesus Christ, obviously no! In fact, that is one of the most intellectually void and intentionally misleading quotes I have ever read. A politician is not a corporation with bylaws and a legal duty to do one thing, i.e. make money. A politician is a representative of the people (and a human) and there to serve the will of the people. As the will of the people changes, so will his representation.

Very well said. The supremacist and racist will also do everything they can, be it through legislation or social action, to keep that number of people on the lower half of the income tree as high as possible, and the number at their end as low as possible.

-Tampering? Who is the Oleg guy? He is an idiot. Who tampers? Libs want to regulate. Regulation is the opposite of tampering. Regulation prevents tampering. Regulation is the answer to the curtailling the endless greed brought on my free markets. It is rules for the game, not tampering with the game.

Regulation prevents industries from dumping waste directly into the water supply and thus tampering with the environment. It prevents smokestacks from making MY air unbreathable. Regulation prevents shady energy traders from wheeling power out of California and causing brownouts. It prevents unscrupulous companies from making high risk mortgages and investors from bundling those high risk mortgages into bonds and passing them off as a good investment.

“Southern Democrats supported and perpetuated slavery. They’re still at it too.”

Slavery is not just a “Southern” thing anymore, it permeates the WHOLE Demoncrat Party. Evidence the HUGE entitlements ALL democraps love to vote for since it provides them with so many constituents (actually slaves) as well as their continued expansion of entitlements, punitive taxation on those few producers, hatred of the wealthy, shipment of jobs overseas and the shitty education they are foisting on our children.

Yes, Democrats love them some slaves.

Oh, and one more thing; Hi-Larry Clinton called all of us “the workers” back when she was campaigning. This is the same Communist language they use to describe their “slaves”. The “workers” has a much nicer, kinder, PC ring to it than slaves.
