Texas State Rep. Introduces Bill That Would Ban Sharia Law….
Shockingly, CAIR is not happy.
Mimicking proposed legislation in several other states, Rep. Leo Berman (R-Tyler) suggested a constitutional amendment prohibiting Texas courts from enforcing, considering or applying religious or cultural law. Though the joint resolution itself does not specify ‘Sharia Law’ — the practices governing Muslim life, including family, work and religion — it falls under the umbrella of banned rules.
“A lot of federal courts are referring to international courts and laws of other countries. We want to make sure our courts are not doing this, especially in regards to cultural laws,” Berman said. “If that includes Sharia law, then so be it.”
Ibrahim Hooper, of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a D.C.-based civil rights advocacy group, says the resolution and similar legislation being proposed in Indiana are violations of First Amendment rights and are essentially hypocritical.
“Based on the proposal, he obviously must be against the Ten Commandments,” Hooper half-joked.
Births, deaths, wills and marriages that include a person’s faith would be null and void, including references to Jewish law in a marriage contract or specifying to be buried in a Catholic cemetery in a will, under the resolution’s logic, Hooper said.
If CAIR isn’t interested in introducing aspects of sharia law into the U.S. court system (as the claim) then why do they fight tooth and nail when attempts are made to ensure this doesn’t happen?

Bet the Lone Star State won’t back down to CAIR & ilk like what we just saw Oklahoma (hope that’s the correct state) congress-critter do, they have it worded differently too- if this goes thru hope other states follow and refine anything they need to- we have to fight these enemies within with all we have.

The rules of the American community are determined by the American community. If non-American standards are imposed against American citizens, it is their civil rights that will have been violated, and it is their freedoms that will have been limited.
Our government should indeed be barred from applying any arbitrary standard. No law, or set of laws, can be enforced that are not ratified by both houses of legislature, and signed into law by the chief executive.
I cant understand how the First Amendment even applies here. No citizen has the right to supply his own standard of legal compliance.
We are a nation of WRITTEN laws.

Where would the jurisdiction of law end if we do this?
The idea of state sovereignty would be corrupted if one state’s standard were applied to another state’s citizens. There would be no refuge for a citizen who disagreed with the legal system of any state.

I have no Fucking clue why any state, city or county would even entertain the thought of introducing a bill. Introducing a bill, means that you recognize it as a law.
Sharia Law is not our law, so it is not applicable to anything in the United States. The next idiot that implies that he or she is following Sharia Law, should be deported.

This is AZ SB1070 all over again. States passing laws to basically say they are and will only abide by the federal laws that are on the books and in the Constitution. By the feds suing states that do this it is the left in power of our government right now way of dismantling us from within. Look soon, as in NJ, for people to insist Sharia either be formally recognized in courts in this country or set up separate from our existing courts (as in the UK). When refused it will be deemed fringing on their “freedom of religion” rights in this country, or discrimination.

Two thumbs up to Oklahoma for fighting for freedom. If they can win the legal battle, Oklahoma may end up being the ONLY free state in the USA… because Sharia is coming. If you don’t see that, you need to start doing some serious research.

I too live in Texas. This must be passed. I live in the Dallas area, and the influx of muslims to this region is growing by leaps and bounds. New islamic centers, mosques popping up in every burb.
If this passes in TX, and the feds even threaten to sue (as they are in Arizona), then we know that our own federal government is against us, and The Constitution. If TX loses this battle, then it’s 100% open doors for sharia. I very much doubt TX will back down. I do suspect there will be a huge attempt to say this law is not needed, and that the Constitution already covers this. But this, this is merely a way to thwart the TX law, and be non-enforcing.. just like our non enforcement of our borders and our breaking of laws entering this country. What I am saying, this MUST pass.
btw, I work with quite a number of muslims, many openly talk about sharia being the law of the land. Many (if not all) get special sharia financing on their homes. I can’t go to any major store or mall that I don’t see a scruffy bearded man with a completely covered woman. Many people place hope in muslim children leaving islam by becoming Americanized in public schools, but I’ve lost hope in that… islam is a forced “religion”. One of my Pakistani muslim coworkers has personally told me, that he would kill his children if they left islam.
This is NOT a First Amendment issue because Islam is a religion and a state. It is, however, an Article VI issue, which states that the Constitution is the “Supreme Law of the Land.”
Our Constitution and Sharia Law simply cannot co-exist. Period.

The reason that CAIR opposes laws like this one is not that they have some secret agenda to take over the country. It is because laws like this one denigrate the Muslim religion, just like a law outlawing circumcision, for instance, would be offensive to Jews. There are many law-abiding, hard working Muslims living in Mr. Berman’s district, and his bill treats them like second class citizens, which is a shame becausethis bill is completely unnecessary. There is NO way Sharia law will ever be implemented in Texas!
