NYC Mayor Bloomberg Running Gun-Show Sting Operations in Arizona…

Call me crazy but this seems to be a tad outside his jurisdiction.
Via Washington Examiner:
Comments & pings are closed.New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg may prefer “No Labels” but in his case, I think “gun grabber” is a pretty fitting one. As part of his misguided crusade to tighten up gun laws nationally, The New York Times reports that Hizzoner sent undercover cops to gun shows in Arizona and found they were violating the law:
In two instances, the New York undercover officers specifically said before buying a gun, “I probably couldn’t pass a background check,” but were still sold guns, city officials said.
In a third case, an investigator bought a Glock pistol and two high-capacity magazines like the ones used in the Tucson shooting. Such purchases were made without any background check but were perfectly legal.
Mr. Bloomberg’s office, which will release details of the undercover investigation on Monday, has for years pushed for tighter firearms laws. Since the Tucson shooting, Mr. Bloomberg has enlisted in his effort Daniel Hernandez, an intern in the office of Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. The congresswoman was the most seriously wounded, and Mr. Hernandez held her until emergency personnel arrived.
While some shady things might have occurred at the gun show and the authorities should be made aware of the problem, I can’t help but find New York’s investigation very unseemly.

And how much did this cost the taxpayers of NYC?
Bloomberg can stick it!
I’m willing to bet that they were private party sales.
Also, the article first states “they were violating the law” but then goes on and says “but were perfectly legal.”
Once again, Bloomberg can stick it!
I don’t about Gun Shows in AZ. But up in WA the legislature decided to try to restrict gun show sales.
One legislator asked the State AG to find all crimes that been committed with gun show guns.
A search of the previous 10 years of gun crimes, gun show guns were involved in precisely ZERO crimes. The legislator who asked for the information asked a simple question, “is a law necessary where there is no problem?”
The bill died.
I despise this Little Dictator….cannot wait until he’s out of our faces.
Soooo……
Tuscon, AZ, narcotics officers are now free to conduct undercover drug-purchasing stings in NYC and will then quite properly be able to proclaim the availabity of illegal drugs in NYC to be a primary source of blame for the Mexican drug cartels’ cross-border traffic into Arizona and the associated violence that ensues there.
Sauce for the gander….
Equal protection….
Why can’t I bring all my legally acquired property and move to places like NYC, CA or IL?
@ Chris – That would be soooo funny!
Hell if they were not cops and had didnt have guns, they most likely wouldnt qualify anyway. so much for NY cops
Excellent point, Chris. Hope Arizona narc officers notice this.
A private transaction does not require a background check. No one is required to check the status of an operators license before selling a car, truck or motorcycle either.
So What, what is your point?
Bloomberg, stick one of those guns in your mouth, tilt it upward and pull the trigger you commie bastard!!
I wonder how much of your money as former Goldman CEO came from some scheme that involved ripping off USA taxpayers (for example; dirivatives or the like)? Stick what you should be doing or what you know, and as far as I can tell its nothing!
notice the NYT article had no allowances for comments…
Bloom is a nutter and the Governer of Arizona should go after his ass for violating her state sovereignty
The NRA and their blood thirsty minions who oppose investigations shedding light on illegal gun sales should admit their situational ethics, and stop trying to point a lying hypocritical finger at any person or agency that is trying to protect innocent citizens, uphold the Constitution, prosecute criminals, and keep America safe from predators.
Too bad Blloomie can’t keep guns out of the hands of NYC street thugs.
Lol I like how realist who opposes the 2nd amendment is calling us constitution violators STFU you fascist pig.
New York City?!?!?!
Git a rope!
If the transactions were illegal, as the NY Times states, were not those NY agents breaking a federal law in a place where they were simply private citizens? Isn’t Bloomberg involved in a criminal conspiracy to break federal law? Shouldn’t the Justice Department or ATF get on this criminal conspiracy post haste.
bloomberg has done this sort of thing before, and he loves to misrepresent facts. I think he was also part of a study on gun crime that counted as a gun crime “facts” like a gun owner in a state like NJ (very hard to get carry permit – make that almost impossible) being mugged. Gun was at home, gun-owner was mugged outside of home – therefore a “gun related crime” in bloomie’s world.
When 9-11 pushed NY lawmakers to pass legislation to allow retired law-enforcement people to carry, bloomie made certain that the final rules stated that retired law officers coudl only carry the type of gun they were issued WHEN THEY JOINED THE FORCE. I work with a guy who joined when revolvers were issued. He was not allowed to carry the same semi-automatic handgun as he used for most of his career as a detective without taking a handgun course approved by the City along with some other requirement that escapes me at the moment. He figured it would cost him $1000 or so to carry the same gun he carried for years while on the police force.
That is how much of a jerk bloomberg is. He even hates former cops carrying.
Bloomberg is an out of control… control freak…
His motto…. “three terms for me… two terms for everyone else….”
fuck the arab loving scumbag… rot in Dubai… Bloomie…
@JCM…. that would be quite a legal argument… something bought legally in another state should be legal ANYWHERE in these 50 States…
Osprey, my now 28-year-old twin nephews were toddlers when that Pace Picante Sauce commercial came out, and one of them picked up “Get a rope!” from hearing the commercial.
Needless to say, to our endless amusement.
And Realist, do you really have no issue with Bloomberg stepping so far out of his jurisdiction on this matter? Is it okay as long as it’s for a cause you find acceptable?
How much background check does one need at an NYC gun show: the ‘hood corner.
These “STRAW” purchases are illegal under both state and federal law. Bloomberg should be brought up on conspiracy charges for his role.
Bloomberg…he’s a piece of work, isn’t he ? No cigarettes, no salt, no guns, no transfats…
mosque at Ground Zero…Good !
It doesn’t matter someone may say “I might not pass a background check”. With a licensed dealer you can still proceed with the “sale” subject to the background check passing. In other words, the customer gives a check or cash to the seller and the seller says (typical at gun shows) come by my store so we can do the NICS (National Instant Criminal System check) and then you can pick up the gun if there aren’t any problems. Why would a seller stop a sale just because the buyer didn’t think he wouldn’t pass the NICS check and then get sued for descrimination, especially if the the “customer” was a minority!
NY cops thats the point boss
Bloombooger is a wet pants liberal who truly believes that guns can jump up off the table by themselves and start spraying bullets around.
He needs to worry about the “illegal” guns that flow into NYC on a daily basis and leave AZ the hell alone. This is flat out grandstanding, self-serving and pandering to gun grabbers. He thinks we’re morons down here, but I’ve got news for him – if he thinks he can take my guns, I’ll let him have them one bullet at a time.
The only idiots who would condone this sort of chicanery are NYC dipshits who were dumb enough to vote him in again, in spite of that violating their own charter. What a shit hole, full of shit heads.
problem is STRAW purchases of guns along the border states are found south of the border causing royal threats, so instead of being a copy cat he should look into sherrif joes intimidation matters, if he really wants to show us his courtesy ko-jones.
Hey Bloomy why travel so far? I was at the gun show, in Ohio, the other day and bought a gun with no background check. All kinds of people where selling their private property. That is none of your business. What , did some of your staff need a vacation so you sent them on the taxpayers dime disguised as straw buyers? What a waste of money that could have been put to better use teaching your city street deparment how to plow roads.
thanks NYC voters
@Noelegy
That Pace Picante Sauce commercial would be considered “hatemongering” today…Texas cowboys hatin’ on New York City? Must be homophobic anti-semite racist tea baggers!
But frankly, as an Arizonan, I can’t think of a better response to the lunacy coming from Gracie Mansion.
Bloomberg had better stay in N.Y. city where he belongs & out of gun control before he get hurt..
NYPD, No guns will travel.
I really don’t see the point of this “investigation”, they have no jurisdiction so what was the point? They simply showed how to legally buy a gun under the radar, nice tutorial.
Let me get this straight …
Bloomberg can do this in AZ, NOT his state (or city/bleh)
But Gov. Brewer can’t have her law enforcement officers ask people if they are legally in the country …
Journalism NYC finest.
The main stream media is incapable of such a job. What a waste.
Hey NY tax payer’s next report get Bloomberg to go after the corruption in the DC.
BR,
Dave
Noelegy, if the ATF weren’t so underfunded thanks to the NRA wheeling and dealing votes from ‘politicians’ there would be enough money to enforce existing laws; you should be glad for every life saved from a complete whack job getting their hands on illegal weapons.
Jurisdiction violations? Just what laws were broken by the undercover sting?
bloomberg is a tyrant who has stolen the citizens only means of power, thier vote ,mayoral term limits were voted on twice by the people of nyc and both times the people voted to limit the mayor to 2 terms, and bloomberg actually ignored the will of the people and now is enjoying his third term, the vote is all we have , take it away and we are in a dictatorship
bloomberg choose arizona because of political differences with arpaio, bloom berg has said he welcomes illegals to nyc
“Realist says:
February 1, 2011 at 12:10 am”
What laws were broken?
Ummmlet me ask you, oh dumbass prog: Were the officers operating in their jurisdiction?
No.
Were they breaking local, state and federal laws by attempting illegal STRAW purchases?
Yup.
Are you a simpering jackass with no hope of bettering yourself due to gross stupidity?
Yup.
[Jurisdiction violations? Just what laws were broken by the undercover sting?]
What state do you live in ass wipe ? I want to send my Local PD over there and have you arrested for ignorance.
Realist, there is a world of difference between illegal gun sales and legal gun sales. Guns sold legally to licensed gun owners account for a microscopic percentage of crimes committed with guns. Of course I’m grateful for lives saved from being taken by illegally obtained guns. And those guns are what the ATF–NOT Mayor Bloomberg–should be focusing on.
The take-away from this is that NYC has NO jurisdiction in AZ.
Based on the comments that I have read so far, a majority of commenters want to shoot the messenger, dilute the message, or become enraged. Their reptillian emotions seem to control the trigger of their ever so peaceful gun.
Mayor Bloomburg should worry about his Com. Reports (Weekly Precinct briefings on crime statistics) and not on crime prevention in other states…
I am so glad I retired and am living 1000 miles from the NYC….
What other states should do like New Jersy and Conneticut is send investigators to NYC and see how many illegal items they can acquire that end up in there state’s and their politicians go on tv and get national exposure… One would think he has a higher agenda or at the end of the day what does he really want to prove or provoke!!!!!
he spent 100,000$ on this!!

See this part right here.
During the sting, investigators hired by New York City bought semiautomatic pistols after they said they probably couldn’t pass a background check.
The people who bought these guns as a proxy for the NYC/Mayor office. I am pretty sure broke the law. That called a “straw buy” and is illegal and gets you I think 5 years in jail. Also if you are not able to buy a gun. according to the brady law and you try to buy a gun. You are GUILTY of a crime and could get 5 years for that. The brady law says-what ever the reason-you are forbidden from owing a gun. Regardeless if you know you are or not. And you TRY to buy one. You are to be arrested and tried on that charge and could get 5 years in jail. Less time i looked something like 50,000 people tried to do this a year the federal goverment only arrest and charge like 200 some people. Makes one wonder!
