Egyptian Army Vows not to use Force Against Protesters, Says Demands are “Legitimate”…

Mubarak’s fate is sealed.

(Sky News)- The Egyptian army has said it will not use force against protesters calling for the removal of President Hosni Mubarak ahead of a “million people” march.

The military said it considers the people’s demands “legitimate”.

At almost exactly the same time as the announcement was made, several tanks blocking access to Cairo’s main square where protests have been taking place, rolled back some 500 metres.

Everyone was looking at each other in almost disbelief because the tanks had been stationed here for a few days.

One got the sense that they were withdrawing to perhaps to allow large numbers of people to come into the square uninhibited.

Update: Man Who Wanted to Blow up Dearborn Mosque Says He’s a Muslim Convert, Served Time in Jail for Threatening to Kill Bush…

Dashing the hopes of CAIR and the left who wanted this guy to be a “right-wing extremist,” the fact is he’s completely insane.

Dearborn — A decorated Army veteran accused of plotting to blow up a Metro Detroit mosque served time in federal prison for threatening to kill President George W. Bush and bomb a Vermont veterans’ clinic in 2002.

Roger Stockham, 63, who flew 600 combat helicopter missions in Vietnam, is behind bars in Michigan after he drove from his home in California last week and parked a car with a trunk full of explosives outside the Islamic Center of America, authorities said.

A psychiatric examination found that Stockham suffered from bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and personality disorder with anti-social features.

In the Vermont incident, he told authorities at the time of his arrest at a Veterans Affairs Department complex in Colchester that his minivan was full of explosives. A search found no explosives.

Before the arrest, Stockham called a local paper twice to say he was going to explode bombs in the neighborhood. In one call, he identified himself as “Hem Ahadin,” saying he was “a local Muslim terrorist on a roll.”

In May 2005, a federal order of conditional release was issued for Stockham. It said the warden of the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Miss., certified that Stockham had recovered from his mental disease and that his conditioned release under a regimen of treatments would not create a risk of bodily injury or harm to others.

He left federal lockup in September 2005.

Just two weeks ago, Stockham was on Facebook, posting a rambling statement in which he again refers to himself as “Hem Ahadin,” calling it his Muslim name.

See yesterday’s post from D-Lo for more on this story.

Muslim Brotherhood Leader Calls For Egyptian Army to Prepare For War With Israel…

Even with boatloads of American weapons Israel would still flatten Egypt in a matter of days.

Mohamed Ghanem, one of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, calls Egypt to stop pumping gas to Israel and prepare the Egyptian army for a war with it’s eastern neighbor.

Speaking with Iranian television station Al-Alam, Mohamed Ghanem blamed Israel for supporting Hosni Mubarak’s regime. Ghanem also said that the Egyptian police and army won’t be able to stop the Muslim Brotherhood movement.

There are doubts about the loyalty of the Egyptian army to president Mubarak. If the brotherhood takes control over Egypt, it will be very messy from the whole region.

Soros-Funded Media Matters Blames the Jews for Revolt in Egypt…

Media Matters would have been an outstanding Nazi propaganda outlet.

(Media Matters) — If one needs additional proof that the “pro-Israel” lobby and the policies it dictates to US policymakers are bad for both the U.S. and Israel, look no further than what is happening in Egypt.

The regime that the Israeli government and its U.S. lobby have depended upon to enforce the status quo is going down. It is not clear when, but it’s going to be soon, much sooner than anyone ever anticipated. And you can be sure that any democratic government that takes Mubarak’s place is not going to play the role of America’s (let alone Israel’s) enforcer in the Middle East.

Hopefully, the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty will survive — thousands of lives on both sides have been saved by President Carter’s Camp David Treaty — but there are no guarantees. Far from it.

Of course, no one would even be worried about the peace treaty if the Israelis had agreed to implement the critical second part of the Camp David Accords.

That was the part that would have ended the occupation. But the Israelis chose to ignore it and the lobby and the ever-faithful Congress blocked Carter’s efforts to push it through.

Few would argue that the imminent collapse of the Mubarak regime (and other Middle East dictatorships) derives from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Neither Egyptians nor Tunisians are risking and losing their lives for Palestinians. They are doing it for themselves. They want freedom.

But the hatred for America that the revolutionaries feel stems in large part from our support for the occupation and the regional dictators who help enable it. And that support stems entirely from the lobby’s power to intimidate policymakers.

I am often accused of harping on the lobby’s baleful influence. I plead guilty. But it’s my obligation because (1) I know from personal experience — 15 years on Capitol Hill and four at AIPAC — how it operates, (2) I know how little it really cares about Israel, and (3) I am free to tell the truth about it. If I worked in the mainstream media or in the U.S. government, I wouldn’t be.

Another area where the lobby has done so much damage is in our relations with Iran.

AIPAC is dedicated to “crippling” sanctions and eventually war with Iran if sanctions don’t bring down the regime. Later this spring, AIPAC will host its annual conference which will, as has been the case for a decade, feature mind-numbing warnings about the danger posed by an Iranian nuclear bomb.

ABC News’ Sam Donaldson Gushes Over Al-Jazeera: “Thank You For What You’re Doing”…

Good grief.

“Talk about propaganda for Al-Jazeera. Thank you for what you’re doing. People say Al Jazeera fanned the flames here by bringing the fact that democracy is in existence and that people are being suppressed. That’s what we need. We need more communication in the world. It’s not Al Jazeera’s fault that Mubarak is under siege now.”

Mohamed ElBaradei: “We Should Stop Demonizing the Muslim Brotherhood”…

American dhimmi-leftists concur.

Mohamed ElBaradei on Democracy in Egypt: ‘There Is No Turning Back Now’ — Spiegel

SPIEGEL: As a potential challenger to Mubarak in the upcoming presidential election in September, you want change through elections. Is it too late for that now?

ElBaradei: It is quite possible that my country is facing a phase of instability. Freedom has its price. But everyone, from the Marxists to the Muslim Brotherhood, agrees that stability has to be our goal.

SPIEGEL: Israel fears a revolution in Egypt. Many people in Jerusalem believe that the Muslim Brotherhood would then come to power and declare war on the Jewish state.

ElBaradei: We should stop demonizing the Muslim Brotherhood. It is incorrect that our only choice is between oppression under Mubarak and the chaos of religious extremists. I have many differences with the Muslim Brotherhood. But they have not committed any acts of violence in five decades. They too want change. If we want democracy and freedom, we have to include them instead of marginalizing them.

The Joys of Quasi-Socialism: UK Tax Rates Could Hit 83%…

The road Obama wants to take us down.

(Guardian)- Nearly a million people will see their tax rates soar as the government’s austerity package kicks in this spring, potentially to as high as 83%.

Analysis from the Institute for Fiscal Studies today reveals that changes in April will drag 750,000 people into the 40% tax bracket. Meanwhile, little-publicised tax credit cuts will push the marginal rates of 175,000 working parents up above 70%. In theory, effective tax rates in Middle Britain could reach 83%, the rate that Labour levied on Britain’s top earners before 1979.

A few days after the governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King, warned that wages were set for their longest continuous squeeze since the 1920s, the IFS exposes how the tax changes will compound the misery.

Moderately high earners with children to support will suffer particularly. For example, a worker on £45,000 with a non-working spouse and two children will be worse off by about £1,000 per year after 6 April. This is on top of the extra VAT which families at all income levels have been paying since the start of the year.

Conservative PAC Wants $100K Refund for Supporting RINO Scott Brown…

This Mass resident isn’t voting for him again.

(Washington Times)- The National Republican Trust spent nearly $100,000 last year to help Scott Brown win the U.S. Senate seat of the late Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, but now the conservative political group wishes it had that money back to help kick Mr. Brown out of office.

Saying the Republican senator is no different from a Democrat, the head of the group is calling for Mr. Brown to donate to charity or disgorge campaign money equal to how much the trust spent supporting him during the 2010 campaign.

The trust’s executive director, Scott Wheeler, said supporters knew Mr. Brown wasn’t going to be a die-hard conservative when they supported him early and often in his run against Martha Coakley, the Democratic state attorney general and once heavy favorite to succeed Mr. Kennedy.

But Mr. Wheeler said he and his group’s conservative backers are now disillusioned, citing Mr. Brown’s vote to ratify the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) with Russia, which the group sharply opposed.

“New START is something he should have been able to vote against,” Mr. Wheeler said.

Pawlenty Calls Obama a “Chicken”…

I’ll have to check the official waaacist handbook to see if you’re allowed to call Obama a “chicken.”

(The Hill)- Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) sharpened his political rhetoric on Monday, calling President Obama “chicken” when it comes to the issue of entitlement spending.

Pawlenty has faced questions about whether he has enough fire in the belly to run for president. His tougher tone could represent a pivot toward addressing those concerns of Republican primary voters.

“He’s got all this soaring rhetoric, but the fact of the matter is he’s chicken to address the real issues,” Pawlenty said Monday on Fox News.

The former Minnesota governor lamented that Obama basically skipped talking about entitlement reforms in his State of the Union address last week, which he said was an example of the president’s cowardice on the issue.

Marxist Hollywood Director Oliver Stone: Bush Family “Not Human”…

Looks like someone missed the “new civility” memo.

(Fox Nation)- Liberal and conservative ideologies collided last week at Pepperdine University as legendary filmmaker Oliver Stone, defending his views on U.S. foreign policy, the bias of mass media, South America and Hugo Chavez, appeared before students following a screening of his latest documentary.

But he also devotes most of the movie’s screen time to Chavez, a man who, Stone believes, is a simple public servant with simple dreams to recapture the more peaceful Venezuela of his childhood.

“He’s an honest man,” Stone said of Chavez on Thursday. “I sense no corruption in him.”

“People who are accustomed to power, like the Bush family, are not very human,” Stone said. “Those people are scared of me. They view me as a radical, as a bomb thrower.”

Egyptian Protesters Plan “Million Man March” on Tuesday…

Pass the popcorn.

(AFP)- A sea of protesters have flooded Cairo on Monday for a seventh day of demonstrations against President Hosni Mubarak’s regime and called for a rolling general strike until the veteran leader stands down.

Protest organisers said Tuesday would see a “march of a million” in the Egyptian capital after a week of revolt in which at least 125 people have been killed, upping the stakes in their bid to topple Mubarak’s creaking regime.

Tens of thousands of protesters carpeted Cairo’s Tahrir square, the epicentre for those calling for an end to the corruption, deprivation and police oppression indelibly associated with Mubarak’s 30-year rule.

“We will stay in the square, until the coward leaves,” the crowd chanted.

The army has positioned tanks around the area and was checking identity papers but letting protesters in. Civilian popular committee members were also checking papers to make sure no plain-clothes police get in.

“We are looking for police trouble makers, they want to come in and break our unity,” said a popular committee member who asked not to be named.

Nearby, soldiers scrubbed furiously at their tanks in a bid to wash off some of the anti-Mubarak graffiti they have been covered in over the last three days, as officers looked on.

Eid Mohammed, one of the protesters and organisers, told AFP: “It was decided overnight that there will be a million man march on Tuesday. We have also decided to begin an open-ended general strike.”

Climate Change Nutbag Blames Egyptian Protests on Global Warming…

The Goracle seen nodding in approval.

(Noel Sheppard)- On Friday, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews blamed the crisis in Egypt on George W. Bush and the Iraq war.

Two days later, climate alarmist extraodinaire Joe Romm blamed it on – wait for it! – global warming:

This summer’s extreme global weather raised fears of a “Coming Food Crisis,” as CAP’s John D. Podesta and Jake Caldwell warned in Foreign Policy:  “Global food security is stretched to the breaking point, and Russia’s fires and Pakistan’s floods are making a bad situation worse.”  Earlier this month I discussed how, in fact, “Extreme weather events helped drive food prices to record highs.”  Back then, experts were worried about food riots.  Now they are happening.

The Washington Post reported on the connection between food prices and Tunisian  violence in mid-January, in a piece headlined, “Spike in global food prices contributes to Tunisian violence.” [...]

Robin Niblett, director of the Chatham House, was interviewed at Davos (click here) and said the Egyptian riots “were driven partly of course by the rise of food prices.”

NPR had a long story on the subject today, “Rising Food Prices Can Topple Governments, Too.”

After quoting various liberal media sources such as the Post and NPR, Romm reached this hysterical conclusion:

Energy insecurity and climate instability have now become key factors in food insecurity, which in turn has become a key factor in toppling governments. [...]

Those who think that the serious impacts of climate change — and our inane energy policies — on the world economy and U.S. national security are decades away are simply not paying attention.

Those of us that have been monitoring this insanity for years have regularly laughed at all the world’s maladies these folks tie to global warming. Dr. John Brignell, a British engineering professor, publishes a growing list of such conspiracy theories at his website Number Watch.

Obama Regime Says Being Forced to Purchase Health Insurance Is Like Buying a TV…

I don’t get it either.

(CNSNews.com) – Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius defended the new health care law’s mandate requiring people to purchase insurance, comparing the buying of health insurance to buying televisions.

People access health care regardless of whether they have insurance, said Sebelius on Friday. “What they’re choosing not to do is actually pay for those services,” she said.

“[I]f I don’t have a 27-inch TV for the Super Bowl, I can’t demand on the day of the Super Bowl that somebody deliver that TV because I have a right to it. On the other hand, if I don’t have insurance, I come through the door of an emergency room and get treated and get cared for, and somebody else picks up the tab,” said Sebelius.

Poll: 7 in 10 Say Republicans Should Consider Tea Party Ideas…

But . . .but . . . but the Tea Party is waaacist!

PRINCETON, N.J., Jan. 31 (UPI) — Seven in 10 U.S. adults say Republican congressional leaders should consider Tea Party ideas in addressing the nation’s problems, Gallup reported Monday.

Eighty-eight percent of Republicans and more than half of Democrats said it was important for the GOP leadership to take into account the Tea Party movement’s positions, results of a USA Today-Gallup poll released Monday indicate.

Currently, 30 percent of Americans call themselves supporters of the movement while 25 percent said they were not, poll results indicated.

Florida: Federal Judge Could Rule ObamaCare Unconstitutional as Early as Today…

Pretty please?

MIAMI, Jan 31 (Reuters) – A Florida judge could on Monday become the second U.S. judge to declare President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law unconstitutional, in the biggest legal challenge yet to federal authority to enact the law.

The judge, Roger Vinson of the U.S. District Court in Pensacola, Florida, was expected to rule on a lawsuit brought by governors and attorneys general from 26 U.S. states, almost all of whom are Republicans. Obama is a Democrat.

The plaintiffs represent more than half the U.S. states, so the Pensacola case has more prominence than some two dozen lawsuits filed in federal courts over the healthcare law.

No specific time has been given for Vinson’s ruling, which was unlikely to end the legal wrangling over the contentious reform law, which could well reach the U.S. Supreme Court.

But an aide said he was determined to issue his opinion in the course of Monday on the suit filed on March 23, 2010, just hours after Obama signed the reform into law.

Daily Kos: Ending Taxpayer-Funded Abortions Means “Transition to American Taliban” Is Complete…

Or something…

(Newsbusters) — Following up on CBS worrying about Republicans satisfying the “conservative right wing” on abortion: At the Daily Kos, Saturday’s Open Thread by Dante Atkins kissed up to Kos founder Markos Moulitsas, hyping his “American Taliban” attack line again, this time about H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. Atkins can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want their tax dollars going to the exercise of the heroic right to abortion, especially after statutory rape:

It’s the type of thing that really makes you wonder what’s wrong with people. Is it any wonder that women tend to vote for Democrats? The GOP thinks that unless you were hogtied or had a knife brandished at you, you deserve whatever you get. Why not just put women in a burqa, assign them a male relative as an escort, and be done with it? Then the transition to American Taliban can be complete.

Atkins thinks it’s awful that an adult would have sex with a middle-schooler, and that the villain of this piece becomes the Republican politician who won’t make that sickness “whole” by funding the inevitable abortion with taxpayer dollars.
