Red on Red: Group of 150 Prominent Left-Wing Activists Launch Campaign Opposing Obama’s Re-Nomination as Dem Nominee in 2012…

Apparently he’s a warmonger or something.

(SF Gate)- As President Barack Obama prepares for Tuesday’s State of the Union address — considered by many to be the real kickoff of his 2012 presidential campaign — a group of vocal progressive activists have launched what they promise is an aggressive campaign to fight his re-election.

The group of 150 liberal activists, authors, and academics – including Code Pink’s co-founder Medea Benjamin and author Daniel Ellsberg – Tuesday released a petition announcing early opposition to Obama’s re-nomination by Democrats. Many of the names included are Greens and indies, not necessarily Democrats themselves, but they said they intend to “actively seek to impede” his policies on the war in Afghanistan and Iraq as the campaign goes forward.

“We vow not to support President Barack Obama for renomination for another term in office, and to actively seek to impede his war policies unless and until he reverses them,” their statement says.

They charge that “since he became president, Obama has had three opportunities to work with Congress to reduce military spending, but instead has championed increases in that spending each time, despite the fact that this spending represents a clear threat to the economic future of our country.”

The group says Obama “has continued..to hide the true costs of the wars by funding them with off-the-books supplemental spending bills, despite the fact that he campaigned against this very practice.”

And, they say, while escalating the war in Afghanistan, Obama was “given the CIA even greater freedom of action to launch lethal drone strikes against civilian houses in Pakistan.”

ACLU Furious Over Obama’s TSA Pat-Downs Joke…

Got to love when “progressives” eat their own. (Can I say that or is it considered “violent rhetoric”?)

WASHINGTON – During his third State of the Union address Tuesday night, President Barack Obama cracked a joke about TSA pat-downs – and earned an immediate rebuke from the ACLU.

Hailing the benefits of high-speed rail, the president jested that it would allow travelers to avoid being subject to the controversial airport pat-downs policy.

“Within 25 years, our goal is to give 80 percent of Americans access to high-speed rail, which could allow you go places in half the time it takes to travel by car,” Obama said. “For some trips, it will be faster than flying – without the pat-down.”

Awkward laughter and a scattered applause followed as Obama smiled and chuckled.

Moments after the president made the remark, the American Civil Liberties Union fired out a Tweet that read: “President Obama makes funny about TSA pat-downs, but the violations of the Constitution are NO JOKE!”

It was accompanied by a link to a scathing report on the ACLU’s Web site, which noted complaints “from men, women and children who reported feeling humiliated and traumatized by these searches, and, in some cases, comparing their psychological impact to sexual assaults.”

Obama’s joke nevertheless seemed to have a subtle admission that some people find the policy too intrusive.

Dem Rep. Dennis Kucinich Sues Confessional Cafeteria Over “Dangerous” Sandwich That Contained an Olive Pit…

If this fails he can always sue over the lack of high chairs.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich has filed a lawsuit over a sandwich he bought at a congressional cafeteria.

Kucinich, D-Ohio, bit into an olive pit in a sandwich wrap in April 2008, which he said led to “serious and permanent dental and oral injuries,” according to documents filed with the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

He’s seeking $150,000 in damages, the court filing says.

A man answering the phone at the Cleveland law office for Andrew Young, Kucinich’s attorney, said “no comment” to USA TODAY when telephoned earlier today.

Kucinich, a liberal who sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, is suing Restaurant Associates, which operates the cafeteria at the Longworth House Office Building, its parent company and two food suppliers.

In the lawsuit, Kucinich alleges that the defendants served him food “that was unwholesome and unfit for human consumption” because it “contained dangerous substances” — an olive pit.

Dem Rep. Alcee Hastings: Loughner Was Inspired by “Violent Political Rhetoric”…

Consider the source: Hastings accepted a $150,000 bribe when he was a federal judge, he was then removed from office by the U.S. Senate in 1989 after being impeached and convicted. Still didn’t stop Dems from electing him to Congress in 1993.

(Rep. Alcee Hastings/Politico)- Since my colleague Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) was shot with 18 others in Tucson, our nation has focused on the links connecting poisonous political discourse; fanaticism and derangement; and guns. We have heard many proposals — laws to make it harder to get guns, laws to make it far easier.

But mostly, we hear a call for “civility” — though not from those who use the shrillest violent rhetoric against their political foils. Maybe now we can finally see the importance of acting with respect and understanding, despite our differing political agendas.

Giffords was shot — and six others tragically murdered — in part because our violent political expression inspired a mentally unstable person, who had preposterously easy access to previously banned weapons. The pundits can repeatedly claim that Jared Lee Loughner was a “madman.” But we all know that he was neither the first nor the last.

To fail to address these three factors — violent speech, mental illness and easy access to guns — is to waste this powerful, tragic moment in U.S. political history.

Report: Two Moscow Suicide Bombers Trained by al-Qaeda in Pakistan…

Anyone doubt this is headed our way?

(Telegraph)- The two suicide bombers who carried out the Moscow attack were thought to be part of a suicide squad trained in Pakistan’s al-Qaeda strongholds sent to the capital to target the city’s transport system.

Russian security services warned in December that there were two attack teams primed to carry out attacks, sparking fears there could still be terrorists at large who were prepared to carry out another attack.

Intelligence sources said that one of the squads was likely to have established a base, at a house in Moscow, where the suicide belts to be used in attacks were assembled.

Russian security sources said yesterday that a male and female suicide bomber from the Black Widow brigades had carried out the bombing together. The attack had been closely supervised by three accomplices, who had watched from a distance and are now being sought by the authorities.

A Russian security official said the bomb that ripped through Moscow’s Domodedovo airport was carried by a woman who mingled in the crowd at arrivals. She then either set the bomb off herself or someone else detonated it using a remote-control device.

McRINO Smitten With Obama’s SOTU Speech…

Enough with the kumbaya BS, Obama is still the same dyed-in-the-wool commie he was before last night’s speech.

(Mediaite)- Reducing the corporate tax rate, eliminating pork barrel spending, free trade and medical malpractice reform are a few of the laundry list of issues Sen. John McCain said he could work on with President Obama.

“There [were] a number of areas that the president has clearly shifted his opinion on,” the senator told me on “GMA.”

Free trade seems the most promising, McCain said, and he was hopeful about revisiting healthcare and medical malpractice. Last night, in a State of the Union that McCain said had a “much different feeling,” Obama signaled his willingness to revisit healthcare – just not repeal it.

Dem Rep. Anthony Weiner: Ryan SOTU Rebuttal Made Me Want to Drink, Bachmann “Not in Touch With The Mother Ship”…

If we drank every time Obama made us feel like we needed it we’d all be raging alcoholics.

One Democratic congressman says he was ready to hit the bottle after hearing the Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union Tuesday night.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (N.Y.), who is known for his outspokenness, praised Obama’s speech as “uplifting,” but said that House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) response was too dour for his taste.

“[Obama] was then followed by a guy who was bumming us out,” he said on MSNBC Tuesday night. “I felt like I just needed a drink when I was done with Paul Ryan.”

Weiner also took a swipe at Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), the chairwoman of the House Tea Party Caucus, who delivered her own rebuttal to the president.

“And then Michele Bachmann who clearly was not in touch with the mother ship,” Weiner said. “That is the contrast we heard. I think it was a good night for President Obama.”

CBO Says This Year’s Budget Deficit to Hit a Record $1.5 Trillion…

ObamaNomics in action.

Washington (AP) – New budget estimates released Wednesday predict the government’s deficit will hit almost $1.5 trillion this year, a new record.

The daunting numbers mean that the government will have to borrow 40 cents for every dollar it spends.

The new Congressional Budget Office estimates will add fuel to a raging debate over cutting spending and looming legislation that’s required to allow the government to borrow more money as the national debt nears the $14.3 trillion cap set by law. Republicans controlling the House say there’s no way they’ll raise the limit without significant cuts in spending, starting with a government funding bill that will advance next month.

The CBO analysis predicts the economy will grow by 3.1 percent this year, but that joblessness will remain above 9 percent this year. Dauntingly for President Obama, the nonpartisan agency estimates a nationwide unemployment rate of 8.2 percent on Election Day in 2012.

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-Kickass) Introduces ObamaCare Repeal Bill in The Senate…

DeMint is DaMan.

January 26, 2011
GOP Senators Introduce ObamaCare Repeal
Legislation identical to House-passed repeal

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) introduced legislation to fully repeal the Democrats’ government health care takeover that President Obama signed into law March 23, 2010.

Thirty-four Republicans have already cosponsored this bill.

“Republicans are standing with the American people who are demanding we repeal this government takeover of health care,” said Senator DeMint. “Repealing ObamaCare is vital to the future of our nation and the health of our people. ObamaCare will raise health costs, reduce choices, ration care, hike taxes, cut jobs, increase the national debt, and put bureaucrats between patients and their doctors. It’s time to start over and implement commonsense solutions that allow Americans to choose affordable plans across state lines, end frivolous lawsuits that drive up costs, and gives equitable tax treatment to those who don’t get insurance from their employer.”

MSNBC Executive: It’s “Nonsense” to Say Our Network Has a “Political Agenda”…

Shameless liar.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

…MSNBC vp primetime programming Bill Wolff maintains that his network covers Palin because she’s newsworthy. Period. End of story.

“She’s powerful and important, even if all you measure her by is her ability to raise money,” he says. “She matters. Her blessing and her endorsement mean something.’

Wolff called it “nonsense” that MSNBC is driven by politics or even profits when it comes to how much airtime it devotes to Palin.

“MSNBC does not have a political agenda. The idea that we’re beholden to one side or the other is ridiculous,” he says.

Top Obama Adviser David Axelrod Mocks Tea Party Response to SOTU…

Someone’s still sore about being trounced by Tea Party voters in the midterm elections.

(The Hill)- A top White House adviser gently mocked on Tuesday night the Tea Party response to the State of the Union delivered by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

White House senior adviser David Axelrod joked in a television appearance later in the evening, after Bachmann had delivered her rejoinder to President Obama’s speech, about the odd camera-work in much of the Tea Party address.

“Am I looking at the right camera?” Axelrod joked during an appearance on MSNBC, referencing Bachmann’s video.

The Minnesota Congresswoman delivered her speech on Tuesday — which followed Rep. Paul Ryan’s (Wis.) delivery of the official Republican response — in which she voiced tough criticisms of Obama and Democrats in Congress.

Obama Regime Seeks to Have All Web Surfing Tracked…

If this was the Bush administration the left would blow a gasket.

WASHINGTON — The US Justice Department wants Internet service providers and cell phone companies to be required to hold on to records for longer to help with criminal prosecutions.

“Data retention is fundamental to the department’s work in investigating and prosecuting almost every type of crime,” US deputy assistant attorney general Jason Weinstein told a congressional subcommittee on Tuesday.

“Some records are kept for weeks or months; others are stored very briefly before being purged,” Weinstein said in remarks prepared for delivery to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.

He said Internet records are often “the only available evidence that allows us to investigate who committed crimes on the Internet.”

GOP Rep. Paul Broun to Obama: “You Don’t Believe in the Constitution, You Believe in Socialism”…

In related news, water is wet.

GOP Rep. Paul Broun (Ga.) rebuked President Obama using perhaps the sharpest language among his Republican colleagues following the State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Broun took to Twitter during the address, accusing the president of believing in socialism. Obama touched on several economic themes during his address, emphasizing the need for the U.S. to be competitive in the global marketplace.

“Mr. President, you don’t believe in the Constitution. You believe in socialism,” the tweet reads.

Remarks like Broun’s have come under the microscope recently due to the increased emphasis on civility following the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.)

UK: Tony Blair’s Sister-in-Law and Recent Muslim Convert Says He Should Be Tried for “War Crimes” in Iraq…

Useful idiot.

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — Former prime minister Tony Blair’s sister-in-law Lauren Booth, a rights campaigner and Muslim convert, said on Wednesday that he should be tried for war crimes over the invasion of Iraq.

Booth, the half-sister of Blair’s barrister wife Cherie, is in Malaysia for lectures organised by Viva Palestina, a British-based organisation associated with controversial politician George Galloway.

Asked whether Blair should be arrested and sent to the International Court of Justice in The Hague for war crimes, Booth replied: ”Absolutely. He misled the British people and took Britain to war on a lie.”

The conflict in Iraq was “an offence”, she told reporters after a speech at a Malaysian university, saying it was organised well in advance between Blair and the United States leadership.

Booth has been a vocal opponent of the war in Iraq, and a supporter of the Palestinian cause, and in 2008 travelled with other activists to Gaza by ship to protest against Israel’s blockade of the territory.
