Obama Botches Bible Verse During National Prayer Breakfast…
His long-time reverend Jeremiah Wright must have skipped over this one.
(Fox News)- President Obama misquoted a familiar Bible verse during a faith-based address at the National Prayer Breakfast.
“Those who wait on the Lord will soar on wings like eagles, and they will run and not be weary, and they will walk and not faint,” the president said during a speech to several thousand people at the breakfast.
But the actual passage, from Isaiah 40:31, states: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
The president also took time to explain how he came to know Jesus Christ through his work as a community organizer.
“It was through that experience working with pastors and laypeople trying to heal the wounds of hurting neighborhoods that I came to know Jesus Christ for myself and embrace Him as my ‘lord and savior’ (sic)”
The president earned praise from the American Humanist Association for talking about his “secular” upbringing.
“President Obama’s remarks acknowledge that children can be raised with a strong moral and ethical foundation, free from the presence of dogmatic religion,” said Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the AHA.
Specifically, the president said his father was a “non-believer” and his mother “grew up with a certain skepticism about organized religion.”
“Yet my mother was also one of the most spiritual people that I ever knew,” he said. “She was somebody who was instinctively guided by the Golden Rule and who nagged me constantly about the homespun values of her Kansas upbringing, values like honest and hard work and kindness and fair play.”

With the countless translations of the Bible, I can’t for sure say he wasn’t quoting from the Bible. There are lots of differing translations. As long as the main point is stipulated, there is no reason to question him on his use of this translation. You know from my many posts what I think of him, let’s use legitimate arguments, and there are a multitude, to disagree. If Egypt falls to the Islamist jihad group, Israel’s days are numbered, at least as far as man’s understanding. Obama’s role in hastening that fall of Israel is a more appropriate argument. America had better be on GOD’s side in the coming fulfillment of prophecy.

The program that I am using rigth now to “Read the Bible in a Year” has 20 different English versions. I had to read that quote several times to try and even figure out where they are saying he got it wrong…which he didn’t. It’s actually pretty interesting to read different versions of the same verse and see the differences.

With the Bible, which obviously was not written in English…but far superior languages of Hebrew & Greek…those are the words that cannot change…and haven’t since the original manuscripts that have been copied about 25,000 times and spread across the globe. English is a gutter language ever mutating with slang and double meanings, we need to have a constant clarification to keep the focus along with the specific meaning.
Example, to say “Jesus”, or “Iesous”, or “Yeshua”…shouldn’t matter because they are all variants of the same original Hebrew name. Jesus is English speakers pronouncing the Greek Iesous, which in turn Greek speakers were trying to say the Hebrew Yeshua in their own tongue.
Clarify the statement without changing the specific meaning & focus.

The human organizations called “religions” are just that: human organizations and are as trustworthy as humans’ word. Human organizations have misinterpreted the Bible to their own ends. The only way to really know what God’s word means is to study it while asking God to help you understand. What God has shown me is there is no difference between any of us. We have all violated God’s law and we all stand guilty before Him. And if God Himself did not come and suffer the punishment for our failings none of us could survive in His Holy presence. Study the word and seek God. He is the only hope any of us has. This is political nit-pickery. How the verse reads depends entirely upon which version of the Bible you’re using. Various translations (King James, New American Standard, Revised Standard Version, New International Version, etc) interpret the original scriptures in different ways.
The first King James version was among the worst of all translations because it wasn’t actually a true translation. It was *transliterated*, which meant that many individual words were not interpreted in their proper context. This is how millions of Christians ended up believing that Jonah took a ride in the belly of a whale. Later, more accurate translations revealed that the story has him in a really big fish, not a whale. There were other, more significant errors as well.
The meaning of the verse in question is the same in all of the translations. It’s likely that the author of the article noticed that Obama’s version of the verse differed from his version and so just assumed Obama misspoke. It’s entirely possible that the author was quoting from a different Biblical translation. Either way, it’s not something worthy of a news article.
Idiots here. He was quoting from the New International version and got it correct. The dummies at Fox News did not bother to check and thought he was misquoting the KJV Bible. There are numerous Bible versions in English and the English versins are translations for translations from greek and aramaic languages.

(1) put together some of the KJV wording. i.e. the word “wait” instead of “hope” (ironic, no???) in the first phrase
(2) skipped entirely the phrase “will renew their strength”
(3) then used the NIV for the “on wings of eagles” phrasing.
This is not the habits of someone who actually reads his Bible regularly. We all tend to quote the version we know, not mix up phrasing from different versions, especially the one we don’t read.

That would be a real tragedy. I consider myself to be very moderate according to my views. Why ‘Choose a side” if neither holds all the same values I hold? I’m not going to sacrifice my individuality. I vote for what issue, or what person, is most in line with what I believe is right. I suggest everyone else do the same. That’s true of all translations. The original of Isaiah is Hebrew, and a rigidly word-for-word translation of old Hebrew doesn’t result in readable English. The translators have to paraphrase a bit to make it “work.” So, it’s beyond anal to argue about which English language rendering is not a paraphrase.
