Top House Dem Steny Hoyer: Obama’s a “Liberal Pragmatist”…
More like a socialist ideologue.
(Politico 44) — President Obama’s outreach to the Chamber of Commerce on Monday indicates that he’s a “liberal pragmatist,” House Minority whip Steny Hoyer said Tuesday.
“I think Barack Obama is a pragmatist. Now, he’s a liberal pragmatist, I think that’s accurate, but he’s a pragmatist,” the Maryland Democrat said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“He wants this country to work, he wants his administration to be successful — therefore, he’s reaching out to others to say. ‘How can we make this country work better?’ The message that we got in the election was, certainly, ‘focus on jobs,’” Hoyer said.
He added that Obama’s remarks at the Chamber demonstrated his willingness to reach out to a variety of Americans.
“I think it’s appropriate that he reach out,” Hoyer said. “The way we’re going to do that is to have a working relationship with business and the Congress and the president so we can have policies in place that can make that happen.”
Hoyer also added that there is no question Obama is thinking about his reelection. “Is he focused on the next election? Of course,” he said. “I think that’s the right thing to do.”
