(Daily Caller) — Is it possible to be so far to one side ideologically that you overlap to the other side? In 20th century Europe it was thought by some that a left-wing movement — communism and a right-wing movement — fascism overlapped or were the same thing. However, HBO host Bill Maher has a different idea of such an overlapping — that a movement is “right-wing” by definition because it is radical.
On HBO Friday night airing of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” during the “Overtime” Internet-only segment, Maher expressed some concern about the Egyptian revolution leading to a transfer of power into the wrong hands. He doubted the scenes from Tahrir Square were representative of Egypt as a whole. . . .
“I suppose people would say the Russian Revolution was hijacked by the left-wing,” Maher said. “I think when you go that far left — you’re really the right-wing. I consider Lenin and Stalin right-wingers. Don’t tell Rush Limbaugh.”

The biggest problem with his theory is that, if it’s true that ultra leftists are right-wingers, then ultra right wingers are actually leftists.

A few months back, I had a debate with some people online. They argued, essentially, that Nazis are right wing because they killed lots of people. So I asked if, that argument being the case, if that would mean that Stalin and Mao were also “right wing”.
At that point, I was told I was getting “caught up in labels”, and am ignorant of history. After all, I don’t have a degree in History and another in Political Science.

Maher is a Socialist and hates Lenin/Stalin. This is a long time conflict in his putrefying belief system but in recent years the left has been altogether exposed as Socialists (aka Communism) and he has to rectified the dilemma of this intensifying sociological peer pressure. So, rather than quit leftist Socialism he changes history. Cognitive Dissonance has saved the day and his head will not exploded. Note: Many other changes took place along the way. Each one another irremovable spot.

Good grief, political labels are really dumb. Trying to sum up an entire collection of ideas and actions and stick them onto one point along a linear continuum is basically retarded. You at least need a plane to even begin to describe a political theory.
Not to mention there is no clear, agreed upon standard definition of “right” and “left.” They are just hurled insults by either side.
As I am guilty of it, I now pledge to clearly delineate my distaste to clearly stated issues and not use blanket statements, or at least minimally to precede “conservative” and “liberal” with either “social” or “economic.”
Bill Maher is about as useful as a steaming pile of maggot feces but not quite as relevant.
