Tulsa Police Captain Under Investigation for Refusing to Force His Officers to Attend Mosque Event — UPDATE: Same Mosque Expelled Member for Criticizing Al-Qaeda in Local Paper

Question for the TPD: When was the last time there was a mandatory event at a local church? I’m assuming never.

(Tulsa World) — A Tulsa police captain who allegedly refused to require his subordinates to attend a “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” at the Tulsa mosque has been assigned to a different division as the department investigates the matter, according to an e-mail obtained by the Tulsa World.

In an e-mail sent by Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police Board of Directors Chairman Clay Ballenger to FOP members Monday, Ballenger said Tulsa police Capt. Paul Fields was temporarily transferred to the Mingo Valley Division on Monday afternoon.

The e-mail states that internal affairs officers are investigating Fields’ refusal “to attend and/or order officers to attend the ‘Law Enforcement Appreciation Day’ at the Mosque of the Islamic Society of Tulsa. “

It states that Fields’ refusal “was based on the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, departmental policy, and past practices of the Tulsa Police Department.”

Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan confirmed that Fields was transferred Monday pending an internal affairs investigation. Citing confidentiality of personnel matters, Jordan said he could not comment further.

In a statement from the Islamic Society of Tulsa, officials said the event was specifically in response to a recent threat to the Muslim community in Tulsa.

UPDATE: In December 2006 the Islamic Society of Tulsa threw out a member who dared to criticize jihadist ideology, calling him a “traitor.”

Mosque of Peace? — Urban Tulsa Weekly

. . . Rather than blaming western critics for their negative portrayal of Islam, Miftah blamed Zawahiri and his ilk for causing the West to associate terrorism and Islam. He called on Muslim youth and Muslim clerics to “help the civilized world to bring these culprits to justice and prove that Islam is not a religion of hatred and aggression.”

What seemed to cause the most controversy was this statement: “Even mosques and Islamic institutions in the U.S. and around the world have become tools in [terrorists'] hands and are used for collecting funds for their criminal acts.”

Miftah was not condemning all mosques, but was referring, for example, to Brooklyn’s al-Farooq mosque, which had been an incubator for the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, and to a mosque in Bridgeview, Illinois, which had been investigated for funneling money to terrorist organizations.

On Nov. 18, Miftah was attending prayers at the mosque. After prayers, Miftah says he was chatting with friends when he was confronted by the imam (prayer leader) of the mosque, Ahmad Kabbani.

Kabbani told Miftah that he should be ashamed of himself for writing the article, saying bad things about Muslims in front of non-Muslims. After Kabbani called Miftah “anti-Islamic,” Miftah walked away from the confrontation into the corridor.

There Miftah says he was confronted by the president of the mosque’s operating council, Houssam Elsoueissi (also known as Abu Waleed). In a loud voice, Elsoueissi called Miftah “anti-Muslim” and a “traitor” for writing against Muslim organizations.

What a joke, we need to start sending emails and bombarding their phone system with calls to leave this guy be as it is HIS RIGHT to not attend if he doesn’t want to.

32 years in law enforcement and i never heard of such a thing. Requiring officers to attend such an event is ridiculous. The only purpose would be if there were some identified security concerns.

I’ve never heard of a church, synagogue,or whatever religion holding such an event, but to somehow make it mandatory is outrageous.

And what was that specific threat to the Tulsa Muslim community?

Muslims want the police officers to show up…then they can recognize and photograph them for future use….and at the same time making it very hard for the police to do undercover anti-terror investigations…

When I was a young gal in the Roman Catholic Church it was forbidden to go into another religion’s house of worship, and especially take part in their ‘service’.

He only refused to attend when he was told he couldn’t bring his lunch: pork ribs.

Maybe the cops should have demonstrated how Aassan murdered AMERICANS at FT. Hood; using live ammo and the islamo moslims pretending to be the AMERICANS.

    Capt. Paul Fields

Courage in the line of duty, for refusing to compel officers to attend a “mosque event”, as reported in various online news media. It is encouraging to see brave men still refusing to be cowed into dhimmitude by the enablers of islamisation.

Sounds like there’s more to this story than meets the eye–for example refusing to obey orders, using the 1st amendment as a pretext.

Not required to obey unlawful orders, same as the military. Since the left is so hot on seperation of Church and state, this fall under that and is therefore unlawful. Can’t have it both ways!!

    @Noelegy

Oklahoma voted to keep International and Sharia Law out of their court system (even though it is already a given, they just wanted to have an extra buffer zone, as the Feds, and many activist judges, don’t always enforce and uphold laws that are already on the books, or they have a tendency to interpret them from the twilight zone.) Anyway, the legislation has been blocked from being enforced, for now because of a complaint by CAIR, I believe. (Imagine that.) I personally believe this is just another way for “SOME”, to try to make an issue of the smallest of issues or misunderstandings, to make it look like ISLAM and the Muslims are being discriminated against. The pity factor, to make people think Tulsa is some kind of REDNECK zone. Some, would have you believe that Muslims are being discriminated against, by “mean old American infidels”, in a different and worse way than any other religion. More and more our laws are being manipulated and twisted to be used against us, and our society, as a whole. (Control and humiliation is the order of the day.) There are threats and persecution of Christians, and other religions, everywhere. I have lived in Tulsa, two different times in the past 10 years. It is a multi-colored, multi-cultural town, IMO. Generally tolerant, as far as I have experienced, for a city of a quarter of a million, or so.

When all the facts are in, I will be interested to know if this is a manufactured news story, or if it has any basis in fact. I do not condone violence, and if there were truly threats made, then an investigation should take place if it hasn’t already. But, the police can’t be everywhere. To expect general protection, like the police provide on a 24/7 scale, is logical and fair. To expect the police force to show a presence just for your facility when you schedule events, appears to be trying to blow the issue into the spotlight and seems to be a little absurd, especially with strained manpower and finances in every area of city government. For your “RELIGIOUS” special occasions, or events, why not use your church funds and hire a licensed security company who coordinates with the police, if you truly have concerns for your congregation and their safety. Forcing the police to show a presence, especially if there is no credibility to a threat, seems more like a photo-op for future reference.

Again, if this is something that involves a legitimate threat, I can understand. But I am a realist, too, and know that the Police can’t be everywhere!

    @desperado

I am not finding the article that says whether the officers were suppose to go on their own time, or if those on duty were suppose to attend. Right now, it is confusing, and it doesn’t seem like it was a duty command, but just an attendance command. (remember BB) still works there, and he hasn’t said a word.

I guess it would be a little awkward to throw a party or event for someone, and then have them refuse to attend. It does still sound like someone is trying to make a big deal about something that is a non-issue. Where is Allen West, when you need him?

Why should non Muzzlims have to go to this effing mosque? The policemen themselves probably discussed this and didn’t want to go.
The police chief shouldn’t have to bear the brunt of this punsihment.
If they were FORCED to go, then a small bacon rind, held in the pocket and surreptitiously dropped in the mosque will do…..
That is advice for ANYONE forced to attend any effing Mosque.

I live in Tulsa and have studied Islamism for 5 years now. Imagine my shock to find it so close to home shortly after I began my research?

The Islamic Society of Tulsa has or had rather close associations with organizations and/or individuals named uninidicted co-conspitators in the largest Hamas terror-funding case in U.S. history (U.S. vs. HLF Case 3:04-cr-00240 Document 656-2). Assocations like CAIR, the Islamic Society of North America (IST constitutionally tied to it), North American Islamic Trust (owns their title), the Muslim American Society (Islamic school ties). Then there’s Jamal Badawi, a Muslim Brotherhood leader who represented them in a debate in 08 and Kuwait’s Tariq al Suwaidan gave them the money to buy a mosque here who is a top Muslim Brotherhood leader there. The Islamic Society of Tulsa credits their roots to the MSA in their constitution.

The Islamic Society of North America was specifically named an organization the Muslim Brotherhood set up in America to help them destroy our democracy for Islamic supremacy. CAIR was named in a Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee document along with the Holy Land Foundation.

Sheryl Siddiqui is CAIR’s secretary for the Oklahoma chapter and one of the main spokespeople for the Islamic Society of Tulsa. Her name is on the invitation.

I wonder if you remember it was CAIR OK’s Director, Muneer Awad, who sued the state over SQ 755 which banned sharia law here last November. Now, all these Muslim leaders are working overtime with fluffy PR events and videos. But, that didn’t stop the Iman at the Islamic Society in Oklahoma City from openly praying on his facebook page yesterday for all Arab nations to unite under a caliphate!

More people seriously need to study about politcal Islam and know how deeply it may be in your state.
