What labor unions do is more comparable to organized crime. It’s racketeering. They want members to make weekly payment in exchange for “protection”. They don’t as much ‘represent’ the interests of union members as much as they tell them what to do.

Unions have NOT been the basis of pay scales her in the US. Union membership has never been more than 20% of US workers in the history of the US. Right now, Y2010, union membership sits at 13% of US workers. So the implication that unions have driven the living wage is simply wrong.

Any debate on the tax rate of American citizens should take place on the floor of the legislature, and should involve elected members of government.

The existence of public unions forces the debate on the level of taxes to be between government and a ‘special interest’ group. Elected members of government are accountable (to the voters) for their actions. Special interests are not.
