Obama’s Labor Secretary Tells DNC: “Public Employees Are Under Assault. . . The Fight Is on”…

God forbid they have to live by the same rules as the (gasp) private sector.

(Politico) — The final day of the Democratic National Committee’s winter meeting turned into an impromptu rally for the public workers of Wisconsin, demonstrating that the standoff over GOP Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget has galvanized labor and liberals.

“The fight is on,” Labor Secretary Hilda Solis told the closing session of the DNC gathering at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel Saturday morning. “We work together. We help those embattled states right now where public employees are under assault.”

Solis, a former congresswoman from California, got cheers and multiple standing ovations for her remarks blasting Walker and other Republican governors who seek to weaken government workers’ collective bargaining rights.

“We know many states are facing tough budget decisions,” she said. “We know there’s room for shared sacrifice — shared sacrifice. We’ve seen our brothers and sisters in public employee unions willingly give up their fair share. . . . The governors of Wisconsin and Ohio aren’t just demanding that they tighten their belts, they’re demanding that they give up their uniquely American rights as workers.”

Top labor officials — from Gerald McEntee, president of the government workers’ union AFSCME, to Anna Burger, former secretary-treasurer of the Service Employees International Union — came to the floor to speak in favor of a resolution supporting workers and collective bargaining.

I guess they will arm the public employees (like myself) so they can protect themselves from the assaulting taxpayer.

Thank you, I will take the gun and ammo and use it to protect myself when the government turns on all of us!

Get paid better than $20 an hour to act like a robot….then complain years later when they get laid off. What is the skill set they have? Robot?!!! What did they do to improve their skill set? Not a damn thing…..cry me a river.

Hilda forgot to mention public employees are paid by taxpayers. When was the last time us regular tax paying joes got any say on a public employee wage/benefit package?

Where was Hilda when my job got sent to Panama? Oh…that’s right…I didn’t pay a union.

Basically then, Hilda, you are saying if public employees lose their bargaining rights, they will be victimized by their evil masters. Seems to be a left-handed admission by you that the Department of Labor is an ineffective joke that will not be able to help when the downtrodden public employee is chained and whipped daily.

They already are along with the firefighters. The big question is will they do their jobs and protect the public or take the side of the union in a fight?

Collective bargaining is not a right, it is a privilege provided by law. If the law is changed, the privilege is changed.

Workers rights are maintained in the Constitution. Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

To ensure an outcome, i.e. guarantee employment at a given wage and benefit, is to destroy incentive to maintain productivity, much less improvement and innovation (not normal characteristics of bureaucracy ).

Government employee output is a public good and should never be treated as a private concern other than in that which a private citizen / taxpayer is directly affected (wages -our tax dollars- and conduct toward the citizen).

It always makes me chuckle to see socialist union members aligned with socialist and communist parties holding signs accusing Repubs of being “hitlers”. Don’t they realize the nazi party stands for national socialism? So people who are OK with dictators are calling small government advocates dictators?

We have gone through the looking glass and are on the other side.

How about “The final day of the Democratic National Socialist Committee’s winter meeting” (Think John Frigging Kerry and Winter Soldiers here). Same thing, different meme…but still a damn lie.

State governments are broke. Its either cut entitlment spending and make state employees pay for some of their taxpayer paid benefits or get laid off.

What no common sense Hilda? Par for the course of the Keynisian’s admin and the rest of his fellow socialists.

    By all means lets fight.

Obama turned the United States in to the UN for human rights violations because it is difficult to unionize workers in America. So, card check would remedy this human rights violation? Apparently it is a human right to be forced into a union. The democrats are trying to legitimize unions with this bogus idea that collective bargaining is a right. They need to do this so they can keep screwing taxpayers. I don’t think many Americans are buying it.

“I didn’t write ‘Solidarity Forever’ for ambitious politicians or for job-hungry labor fakirs seeking a ride on the gravy train. . . . All of us deeply resent seeing a song that was uniquely our own used as a singing commercial for the soft-boiled type of post-Wagner Act industrial unionism that uses million-dollar slush funds to persuade their congressional office boys to do chores for them. I contend also that when the labor movement ceases to be a Cause and becomes a business, the end product can hardly be called progress.”

So Obama has declaired a class war has he, well he’s got the elite unionists’ robber barrons on his side thus the deck is already stacked in the progressive’s favour. Not surprised atall that Obama looks down in contempt at the taxpayer’s who are forced to fund the union elite’s opulant lifestyles. If we all quit working then who’s going to pay their over the top salaries and benifits, we are the working class and the union workers are our robber barrons of lore.

  25. gastorgrab says:
    February 27, 2011 at 10:38 am

If the public unions have so much money that they can afford to purchase their very own legislators, then taxpayers are funding much more than the state of those public employee’s work environments.

Taxpayers are funding the price of their work environment, AND THEIR IDEOLOGY.

:-( The rest of us have to pay for our own ideologies.

Where does Hilda get off calling union workers “brothers and sisters”? These “brothers and sisters” work for you and me. We pay them. Last time I checked the tide of the country was not with these “brothers and sisters”. By the way Hilda don’t you think you got a little conflict of interest going here? needs people to protect them…people who have been “paid” by commies…

    The Commies are buying protection….

they are dividing… and trying to conquer this country…

Lenin’s conception of the function of the State shows why:

“Essentially the state is the power exercised over the masses by a group of armed men separated from the people.” …From the April Theses

“The state is a special organization of force: it is an organization of violence for the suppression of some class” ….From The State and Revolution.

That makes the Leftist position pretty clear, I think.

The State exists to suppress people. How useful that is!

So power-mad people such as Leftists like big government
and do all they can to foster it.

This is exactly what one would expect from someone who has nursed off the taxpayer’s teat her entire adult life starting with her being accepted into the Educational Opportunity Program at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (a program that assists low-income, first-generation college students) and paying for it with the help of government grants.

There is positively a conflict of interest here and should have eliminated her as U.S. Secretary of Labor due to her ties and bias toward unionized labor. Her high-level positions at American Rights at Work should have alone precluded her from being approved not to mention she had failed to report those positions on her annual House financial disclosure forms at the time, which a White House spokesperson argued was an unintentional oversight. And the fact that her father was an organizer for the Teamsters just cements that bias.

As well it seems that Solis’s husband Sam Sayyad had problems paying $6,400 in outstanding state and local tax liens dating back to 1993 for his auto repair business. Par for the course with people who want to take from the government but have trouble paying their fair share.

Teachers are currently being forced to contribute to the public employee union whether they want to or not. Gov. Walker seeks to end this in Wisconsin. In other words, Gov. Walker wants to stop the tax dollars that go to teachers’ salaries from being automatically siphoned off to fund that union.

Meanwhile, public employee unions use those compulsory dues to fund contributions to Democrat candidates and to the Democrat party itself. This helps them to get more Democrats elected than the public would ordinarily be willing to tolerate.

That is why failed Dem presidential candidate Howard Dean is running a slush fund to bribe those “fleebaggers” to stay away and not vote. This is bribery, folks, and it’s a FELONY. Both Dean and the fleebaggers belong in prison for this. The sooner they are indicted, the better!
