It’s Official: WI Gov. Scott Walker Signs Bill Stripping Public Workers Unions of Collective Bargaining Rights…

Victory!

(AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has officially taken away nearly all collective bargaining rights from the vast majority of the state’s public employees.

Walker signed the bill to do so privately Friday morning. He planned an afternoon news conference in the Capitol.

The explosive measure passed the Assembly on Thursday following more than three weeks of protests that drew tens of thousands of people to the Capitol in opposition. The Senate cleared the way for passage with a surprise move Wednesday that allowed them to vote on the bill without 14 Democratic senators present.

Walker has said if the bill didn’t pass up to 1,500 state workers could be laid off. He rescinded the layoff notices Friday morning.

    Please explain.

    In the mean time:

    Congratulations to the taxpayers of Wisconsin!

    Good job Gov. Walkers and Republicans.

    Please stay safe. Obama has released his union attack dogs on you.

    The legislature in Idaho did the same thing. But I did not see the union scum, race baiting poverty pimp Jeeeese or the walking Beluga Moore out there raising hell.
    Maybe because everyone in Idaho is armed?

    I saw a clever quote over at Ace of Spades HQ that was worth sharing:

    —————

    “In the present state of affairs I am convinced that we cannot possibly dispense with the trades unions. On the contrary, they are among the most important institutions in the economic life of the nation. Not only are they important in the sphere of social policy but also, and even more so, in the national political sphere. For when the great masses of a nation see their vital needs satisfied through a just trade unionist movement the stamina of the whole nation in its struggle for existence will be enormously reinforced thereby.”

    I am sick of Public Unions calling Collective Bargaining a right.

    @Sickofobama:
    All of this legislation will end up in the courts. First in Dane county where it most likely will be overturned. (Dane is the most liberal area of the state). After that it goes to the Court of Appeals. Regardless of that outcome it will end up in the State Supreme Court. At present the court is 4-3 conservative. Judge Prosser, a conservative, is up for reelection next month against a liberal. THAT’s why that election is so important. If he loses, the balance shifts liberal and all bets are off.
    Hope this answers your question!

  27. Wisco Dave says:
    March 11, 2011 at 2:18 pm

    @Sickofobama
    I would think this would be settled in the courts, at least in the State of WI, before the end of the year (don’t know if they can do anything on a Federal level against this). Recalls will happen in a couple of months. They will probably try to recall Walker next year. My guess is that they will have limited success.
    Remember – most of what you see/hear from Madison and Milwaukee is NOT reflective of the rest of the state!

    Anybody else notice what the AP reporter and editors did with the story’s lede?

    “Gov. Scott Walker has officially taken away nearly all collective bargaining rights…”

    Whoa! That’s a brazen lie, deliberately intended to make one Republican gov the heavy. The truth is that the duly-elected *state legislature*–both chambers– passed the bill.

    Remember the “progressive” strategy point of “Personalize the issue”? Dems and all the members of the make-believe media routinely use that one–which is exactly what happened with the story about the Wisconsin bill.
