Obama May Use Executive Orders to Bypass Congress on Gun Control Laws…

WASHINGTON — Faced with a Congress hostile to even slight restrictions of Second Amendment rights, the Obama administration is exploring potential changes to gun laws that can be secured strictly through executive action, administration officials say.
The Department of Justice held the first in what is expected to be a series of meetings on Tuesday afternoon with a group of stakeholders in the ongoing gun-policy debates. Before the meeting, officials said part of the discussion was expected to center around the White House’s options for shaping policy on its own or through its adjoining agencies and departments — on issues ranging from beefing up background checks to encouraging better data-sharing.
Administration officials said talk of executive orders or agency action are among a host of options that President Barack Obama and his advisers are considering. “The purpose of these discussions is to be a productive exchange of good ideas from folks across the spectrum,” one official said. “We think that’s a good place to start.”
Earlier in the day, House Democrats joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to offer another possible starting point, announcing legislation that would make fundamental changes to the nation’s gun background check system. Sponsored by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), a longtime gun control advocate, the bill mirrors one introduced late last month by another New York Democrat, Sen. Chuck Schumer.

What is sad is he can do it. If you read the Emergency Powers act of 1933 and the bill it was fashioned after/ piggybacked on The Trading with the Enemy Act of 1917 you will see why. Every president since FDR has re- authorized it. Congress abdicated certain powers in favor of a strong executive in times of emergency. The executive order would be binding unless , congress passes a law that supercedes it or forbade all or part of it. The last time the legislative branch tried to reign it in was durring the Nixon admin, they realized that without the President cancelling the emergency or just giving it up the couldn’t get the power back. Obama re- authorized the act in 2009 citing 911 as an ongoing emergency. The act covers pretty much every subject known to man and gives the President almost dictator like power.
This is why during the ObamaCare debate people to include lawyers and constitional scholars said ” Obama should just do an executive order”. You noticed no one said he couldn’t. If you ask a politician or a wannabe Rush Limbaugh about it they get hostile and start suggesting your crazy.

I would tend to agree but, look how much Americans have already rolled over. We have been taking it up the @55 since @ least 1912 and continue to do so. If declared a round up / confiscation , I think he and the rest of DC would be getting one way tickets to France. It should be noted that the Founding Fathers considered both the benefits, and consequences, of the 2nd Amendment. In their own day, they witnessed firearms falling into the hands of criminals. Worse than that, they saw firearms falling into the hands of Indians through rogue merchants. In those days Indians were regarded as a threat similar to our current regard of gangs and drug cartels. One may argue that Indians posed an even greater threat, given the fact that Indians of that era were more widespread and better organized (eventually, the U.S. would see them united into a formidable force during the War of 1812, allied with Britain). Our elected leaders often do not realize how easy they have it only having to deal with petty gangs and drug cartels.
The Founding Fathers gave us the Second Amendment because they feared future tyrants more than armed criminals or Indians. It was the lesser of evils.

Ive gone long enough with nothing more than a pellet gun. I am a prior service Corporal of Marine Corps and I have a second award expert rifle and second award pistol badges. I kept a pellet gun to keep my line of sight, heart rate, trigger pull, and breath control in constant memory for when the day came that I needed a gun powder propelled bullet launcher. Since I have read about this executive order I have purchased 4 weapons, cause I feel the time has come for me to once again serve my country. Hopefully I am wrong and wont need them, but if we are correct; I will die for my country!
