Updated: Former Vice-Presidential Nominee Geraldine Ferraro Dies at 75

The story is just breaking on FOX News Channel. I’ll update when available.
Of note, Geraldine Ferraro was a big part of Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign team, but was forced to resign after comments she made regarding Obama were deemed “racist.”
(NBC News) — Geraldine Ferraro, the trailblazing 1984 vice presidential nominee, died Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital surrounded by her family, NBC News confirmed. She was 75.
Ferraro died of complications from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that she had battled for 12 years, according to a statement from her family.
Update Below:
Sarah Palin remembers Geraldine Ferraro:
(FOX News) — Geraldine Ferraro, who became the first woman to run for vice president on a major party ticket in 1984 — only to lose in a landslide — died Saturday. She was 75.
Ferraro died at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was being treated for blood cancer, a disease she battled for 12 years, her family said.
Ferraro “was widely known as a leader, a fighter for justice, and a tireless advocate for those without a voice,” her family said. “To us, she was a wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, a woman devoted to and deeply loved by her family. Her courage and generosity of spirit throughout her life waging battles big and small, public and personal, will never be forgotten and will be sorely missed.”
Ferraro is survived by her husband of 50 years; her three children and their spouses; and her eight grandchildren.
Ferraro was a Fox News contributor and a fixture on the national political stage ever since Democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale plucked her from obscurity as a Queens congresswoman to join his ticket in 1984 against incumbents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

Anything you say against dear leader will be construed and contorted as being racist. As a conservative I wasn’t a fan of course, but they smeared her and it was pathetic.
RIP Geraldine and prayers to your family
I remember when Palin thanked her for running in 1984, she was floored that Palin was say such a nice thing about her. For days it was almost hard for her to put Palin down for her political party.
God bless and prayers.

That’s because a Democrat would never have something positive to say about a conservative women running for VP as evidenced enormously. Sarah is all class, most Dems are all ass.

_____
That’s so true. That is so true. that is why I think Ferraro was so shocked by Palin’s statement.
***Ferraro told Shepard Smith of Fox News this evening that she almost went off the road while driving when she heard Palin recognize her efforts 24 years ago.
Shep asked Ms. Ferraro, “You mean Hillary (D) didn’t thank you for your work in 1984?”
Ms. Ferraro responded, “Not publicly, no, she didn’t. Sarah Palin is the first to do so in 24 years.”****
Ferarro was an annoying libshit bee-yatch. Over the last few years she mellowed out. But she didn’t mellow her views on the murder of the unborn. Like someone else said, I wonder what she thinks about it now (no pun).
Without any threshold of proof being required, the ‘Race Card’ is the most popular ad-hominem attack in the world today. All you have to do is say it, and it becomes the truth.
Geraldine Ferraro was grouped with the KKK for stating what was obvious to everyone, that Barack Obama was allowed to succeed in life only because of his skin color. The last two and a half years have only confirmed the fact that Obama has no practical skills. The man is a self-centered, jealous, bigoted idiot!
No one on the left seems to care about the “content of his character”.
.
Can’t say that I always admired Ferraro. If I recall correctly her husband was crooked. But she hit the nail on the head when she correctly called “BS” regarding Obama’s ascendency in the campaign for president when she noted he was only where he was in the race because he was black.
As for the Mondale/Ferraro ticket, the joke at the time in referring to it was, “Wally and the Beaver.”
I remember the joke being…”Did you hear that Mondale is going to have to drop out of the race? He was caught doing 69 in a Ferraro.”
I met her once while giving a presentation in Albany, maybe 1996 or so. Little bit of a thing, pleasant enough. She did have some class which is more than you can say for Hillary. I couldn’t stand her while she was running for VP with that glassy-eyed idiot Mondale, but like Infidel says, she mellowed out. I wonder how much of her 1984 rhetoric was influenced by her base.
Any politician that goes along with the format, gets further. Period. Ferraro was pro-killing babies, and she only “achieved” her success and “shattered glass ceilings” because she towed the deadly democrats platform. When Sarah praised her, you have to wonder why? Look at the state of America. America is morally broke and financially broke, and Ferraro was part of our deterioration, why praise her?
If I too hated life, I could be pro-killing babies, pro-death options for adults, pro-legalization of all types of drugs, pro-advocate of life long welfare, pro-sodomy, pro-redistribution of wealth, and if I was to be all this, I would surely break all sorts of ceilings.
The democrats have no opposition, the Republicans mutually agree. Now I do see why Sarah praised her, not that she agrees with her, but to give her credit…please.
You conservatives (I’m one myself) who can’t rise above politics to wish mercy on Geraldine are a bunch of uncouth self righteous pricks.
Both sides engage in campaign rhetoric but outside of the campaign she was a decent person with a soul. I’ll bet all you perfect knuckleheads can kill a joyous occasion by just showing up.
She wasn’t Ted Kennedy……….

Thanks, that needed to be said. We can all leave our politics aside for once and hope this woman finds peace in heaven no matter what we felt about her ideology. It’s not like she was Ted Kennedy, not even close.
She also said some nice things about Sarah Palin when no other liberal would dare to.
She was mostly gracious and respectful and imo a lot of Democrats could learn a lesson or three about civility from her.
Also Geraldine was an old school liberal like my own mother, not a raging communist. Todays crop of liberals in power are mostly far-left socialists and Marxists, I doubt Geraldine had too much in common with them.
Hell, even JFK couldn’t get elected as a Democrat in todays world.
As others here have said — politics aside!
*Salute*
Thanks for those who understood my point…….and I knew someone would prove my point by making more doo doo in this sad story….

Like I said above, my mother is an old school liberal and although I don’t agree with most of her politics, she’s a good mom and I love her. I hope God can see past some of her choices she has made and give her a place by his side when this world is done with her which will be most likely in a few short years.
I wish the same for Geraldine.
Sad story? She was 75!
Death is a part of life, (built in our dna) she was able to ENJOY her LONG life. She didn’t care much about the innocent babies now did she.
Next, we will be asked to thank our rapist….oh be civil now.
I can’t wait until Charles Manson dies…all the good deeds he did in his life, don’t mind with the bad, thats just being mean-spirited. Geraldine is Manson on steriods. Got it! So go praise her.
God Speed Geraldine.
EarthtoMars – your rhetoric is akin to the bullshit I would have attributed to the mean-spirited leftists over at the Dumbacrat Blunderground. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. The Ferraro family lost a wife, mother, and grandmother and your hate filled diatribe is the best you can do?
Ever heard the expression: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all!
Never speak bad of the dead. She is still Gods creation.
I didnt often agree with her but the lady was honest and had class. We could use people like her who still see America as a great country and the politics comes after that. RIP
We are not the Left. If you can’t say anything nice about a person on the day she died, don’t say anything at all.
There’s a time and a place for invective. This isn’t it.
I never cared for her politics but assume she was sincere in her misguided beliefs. May God rest her soul.

John, you (and a few others) are a decent person who’s words touched me.
Yes, we are NOT the loony left. Even Arianna Huffington closed comments to those loons when it came to Bill Buckley and Charleton Heston. You’d think we could police ourselves but there’s evidence immaturity comes from both sides…bless you John.
I’ve never liked her does that make me a bad person for not caring that she was even alive last week?
Prayers to her family.. I’m sure she was loved.
Amen, EarthtoMars, Amen! And don’t forget, maybe she (hillary) is someone else’s lesbian lover too. I don’t know? Do you?
Thank you, crashman. You and several others on this thread continue to restore some shred of the faith in humanity I have lost over the past few years.
“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position”
yup. The first and hopefully only affirmative action president.
Geraldine Ferraro was a card-carrying lib — pc to the bone — when she ran on Mondale’s ticket, and she was no less pc when when she worked with Hillary in 08. The only difference in 08 was that she did not get the pc memo from the MSM declaring O off limits and consequently the MSM went after her just as they did everyone else who posed a possible threat to their sacred messiah. Ferraro’s crime? — she remarked the obvious about then-candidate Obama.
I suspect the MSM’s treatment of her led to some kind of awakening, though I do not know this. It certainly created an opening for her at FOX, just as it did Juan. Either way, I hope she rethought her liberalism, including her position on abortion, in her last years. May she rest in peace.
And let’s keep the comments classy. She’s gone forever now.
Thanks to Maggie for the obit.
ETM: Ted Kennedy committed manslaughter and tried to cover it up. Despite this, the left crowned him their champion. GF did no such thing and to the best of my knowledge, her career in politics was benign and undistinguished, apart from Mondale selecting her as a running mate. Of Kennedy I say, “The name of the wicked shall rot.” I can’t go there with GF. Maybe you can. More power to you. Personally, however, I’d rather you do it elsewhere. WZ doesn’t want to be the Kos of the right.
EarthToMars,
In my opinion the “right wing” Republicans, Conservatives, Libertarians overwilmingly support abortion, what can you expect from them then?
Let’s look at this way then GOD ABORTED GERALDINE TODAY. No big deal.
ETM: I noted in my comment that I hoped she changed her position on abortion. I have no idea one way or the other if she did. I do know, however, that when the left dumped her, they gave her good cause of action to contemplate life in general. Again, I don’t know if she did.
Regardless, being pro-abortion is not tantamount to complicity in the murder of millions of innocents any more than “it is or it is not bad form to speak ill of the dead in this forum.” You have framed a false dilemma after making a hasty generalization. At least you’re consistent in your fallacies.
Agreed, Ted Kennedy was a worthless wretch. Unlike you, I cannot say the same of GF, though it may be true of her. Since we don’t know, however, let’s show some class. That is, if you have any.
As she got older, Ferraro became more of a classic liberal. I am sorry to see she has died. R.I.P.
You know what – you can be against abortion but do not want to criminalize it.
yeah like you can be against murder and not want that criminalized either
EarthToMars says:

screw that, I’m glad she’s dead, and I will be happy to see Hillary kick the bucket too, even though she is someone’s wife and mother.
You are one nasty individual.
“yeah like you can be against murder and not want that criminalized either”
That is a ridiculous statement. So I guess you would then execute a 16 year old girl who had an abortion.
@EarthToMars says:
dudette – you are sick, mean & nasty.
ETM: This is my last exchange with you.
Agreed, there is zero evidence that she changed, just as there is zero evidence that she did not change. I said that the left gave her good cause of action to contemplate life, seeing they threw her off the bus and ran her over several times to make sure she’d never come back. These are the people whose cause she dedicated her life to.
So when you combine this fact with her cancer and her well-documented Romanism, I suspect she spent lots of time in contemplation. You don’t suspect that while you invoke Hitler, which is proof that still cannot frame a logical argument and that you have also conceded the argument.
Go ahead, pile on if it makes you feel better. Tear into her. Show her no pity as you insist she deserves none. As I said, I cannot go there because, unlike you, I do not have the ability to divine the unseen.
But I sincerely wish you would not do it here, as WZ does not want to be the Kos of the right.
EarthToMars, You care about “equal rights” for all life, most people in here don’t care about women and their children, and they couldn’t care less if a baby is brutally dismembered limb by limb, tissue by tissue. They just don’t care. They don’t care when a baby is deliverd breach only to have a syringe shoved in the skull to collapse the skull and kill the baby…they don’t care. And when advocates like Ferraro applaude this GENOCIDE, you my dear are the uncivil one. Hahaha. And we say Hitler was bad??????? Hitler, Ferraro, Clinton….are all of the same cloth. Gee, I’m surpised the left didn’t give her some kind of “peace award”.
Just checked back in and it looks like E2M and Cindy are having much fun munching on each others shit biscuits.
Sooooo very cute.
I say we all back out and let nature take it’s course.
Cindy — Please be honest in your representations.
First, you can’t get more pro-life than Zip or me (I’ve never discussed it with the other editors, so I can’t comment about them with specificity, though I’ve seen enough of their posts to know that they are all staunch pro-life).
Second, Geraldine Ferraro never stuck anything in any baby’s skull. She was pro-abort during her political career. Agreed. No one doubts this point.
Third, if we follow your argument to its logical conclusion, then we must say that you are pro-life for the unborn and pro-death for everyone who disagrees with you, which doesn’t strike me as pro-life so much as it’s pro-Cindy.
Please tell me where I’m wrong.
@ETM
I hope you are PERFECT , if not remember the words of the final Judge who will judge not only Ferrao but YOU.
“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
You remind me of the religious type that is so focused on being ANTI (fill in the blank) in this case abortion-which is killing. However words can kill as well. You also remind me of the type that is so anti (fill in the blank) and thus see’s himslef as righteous yet you probably treat your spouse like shit.
RealitytoMars — He is perfect, except when he frames an argument or attempts to identify an ad hom, in which case he is justified simply because of his noble work on behalf of aborted babies, which is limited to abusing everyone who disagrees with his position to the point that he wishes them dead.
Pro-life alright.
That’s a strawman you asshat. One more snotty comment and I’m banning you.
“Please tell me where I’m wrong.” Weazelmeister, I shall tell you were you are wrong.
Your liberal arguement is just that…liberal and non-sensical. For example, Death has a place and time for all of us, death is a part of life. I am not against death per se. I actually embrace death and have no fears of death. But we are all given life for a reason, a reason unknown to all of us, and we should be given that “god-given” right to live it to the fullest.
However in a fair and just society, the innocent must never be found guilty. Why does the innocent baby deserve a death sentence? Another example, I am not against violence. Self-defense is instinctive and natual and should used to protect yourself at all cost, but violence where an adult male beats a child into a coma is indefensible and no one would (or should) condone that type of violence. Just because one can be PRO and ANTI something is no contradition, its a matter of CONTEXT and COMMON SENSE.

Checking in, Boss.
Make that 3 “very pro-life” WZ staffers.
Hi Cindy, thanks for you comment but it does not answer me. I specifically asked you to show me where I was wrong. You contend that you are pro-life while simultaneously rejoicing in GF’s death, which strikes me as contradictory.
@Maggie — many thanks. I thought it but didn’t know it.

You know what – you can be against abortion but do not want to criminalize it.
Beck’s been quoting Deitrich Bonhoffer this week and one line that he’s been repeating keeps echoing in my mind: You can choose to take a stand or not; either way, you have taken a stand.
What I find saddest about Ms. Ferraro’s life, besides the crushing defeat she had to endure in her first national exposure, was that her party (which includes the MSM), stomped her flat when she went against their B.O. template — yet she defended them to the end. THAT is sad. It will be interesting to see if her party throws a “Wellstone Memorial” for her or stays silent altogether.
She managed to stay married to the same man for 50 years. That’s getting more and more unheard of, especially in the world of politics. I do give her credit for that.
Multiiple myeloma is what killed my 2nd wife. It’s the most horrible, painful way to die and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, even if they are pro-choice.
I’ll never forget the look on GF’s face when SP complimented her. She probably came to that interview loaded for bear and was promptly disarmed by Sarah’s class and charm.
I don’t pray for dead people (too late, one way or another) but I will pray for the comfort of her family.
Weasel, “pro-life” is the SLOGAN that was the counter punch to PRO-CHOICE.
Please don’t go liberal insane on me.
When people say “pro-life” its in the context of not killing babies. If people said I’m pro-life in 1950, people would look at you and say “well, no duh” because that expression/slogan was never around back then.
When I said I am “pro-life” again its in context. Now if you want to “extend” that slogan to every aspect of life and not according to context, then you go ahead and do that, but you know you would lose the debate. And I’m sure you would be very hypocrital in living by your own flawed thinking.
So if someone says they are anti-violence, they can never use self-defense? But that is violence, if I beat the crap out of someone to protect myself.
If someone believes in “individual liberty”, are you going to allow your child to express their independence and move out at 10???? Yeah, you really believe in “individual liberty”
Its context Weasel…CONTEXT. And that is where you are wrong, because if you tell me you are anti-violence, you MUST (according to you) apply that EQUALLY in all facets of your life, even when an intruder comes into your house and wants to rob you and kill you. Now if you say you are pro-violence, then, according to you, violence is okay ALL the time.
That is the liberal arguement…”hey, but you said you were “pro-life”?… Please.
Pardon me for interrupting this fight………..but Geraldine Ferraro was a TOKEN in the party of racists, feminists and lithium patients.
Good fucking riddance!
Say G’Bye, Asshole……………..(G’Bye, Asshole)
Cindy — I get it. Pro-this does not mean anti-that. So let’s get back to point.
You rejoiced in GF’s death because, according to you, she was cut from the same cloth as Hitler, which kinda nullifies all that “Pro-this does not mean anti-that” argumentation because it’s a complete stretch.
Hitler gassed 6,000,000 Jews to death, along with countless other atrocities. GF held her party’s platform. Despite this, you rejoice in her death. This strikes me as no less sadistic, at least in spirit, as anything the Nazis did.
Please tell me where I’m wrong.
Think about this; those diagnosed with multiple myeloma have an average survival rate of 16 months (my wife lived 4 years). For Geraldine to live 12 years with the disease means she must have had very good and extremely expensive medical care, plus lots of luck and very blessed besides.
Since she was a good dhimmicrat, I have no doubt she was a big supporter of ObamaCare, BUT ironically she was able to croak before some bureaucratic bean counter pulled the plug because she was old and her treatments too expensive.
A lifelong proponent of abortion, I’d bet dollars to dog doo, she wouldn’t have been in favor of aborting one of her grandchildren.
Not saying there are no hypocrites in Heaven, but let’s just say they have a tough row to hoe.
Weasel, show me my statement where I “rejoice”. She lived her full life, “God” aborted her, not me, nor was I “advocating” for her death…show me where? A smile nor a frown appeared on my face…where’s the “rejoice”? I hear NY Times is looking for a columnist. You should apply.
@ EarthToMars:
Chill out there Moby.
Cindy,
When EarthToMars wrote, “screw that, I’m glad she’s dead, and I will be happy to see Hillary kick the bucket too,” you wrote, “Amen, EarthtoMars, Amen!”
I think it’s fair to say that the double “amen” followed by an exclamation point is an example of rejoicing in her death.
Special thanks to Weasel Meister for canning that asshole while I was out for the afternoon.
In the end, WE are not anybody’s judge. We are here to help each other. Judgment Day will come, for all of us.
May those who loved GF, be comforted in their loss.
First, of all I am non-religious I probably used that word ummm, 1 time in my life, it was 2x wasn’t it, and second of all have you heard of a statment “being in jest”?
I said AMEN, (it is so, so be it…in agreement) that is not “rejoicing”, now had I said HALELUJAH!!! That’s rejoicing!!
Cindy, I’m through with you. You reveled in her death and you won’t admit it. You completely misrepresented the hosts of this site, and you won’t admit it.
You have an excuse for everything you write and you make no excuse for anyone, drawing absurd conclusions about them and holding them to impossible standards, which interestingly enough don’t ever apply to you.
You are just as sick as EarthToMars, if not sicker, so please do us a favor by going somewhere else to offload your inhumane waste.
