Joe Biden’s Staffers Held Pool Reporter in Closet at High-Powered Florida Democrat Fundraiser

Imagine if Dick Cheney had done this. They kept him in the closet to “keep him from mingling with high-powered guests gathered for a Democratic fundraiser.”

(Drudge Report) — Staffers with Vice President Joe Biden confined an Orlando Sentinel reporter in a closet this week to keep him from mingling with high-powered guests gathered for a Democratic fundraiser.

Reporter Scott Powers was the designated “pool reporter” for the vice president’s Wednesday visit to the massive Winter Park, Fla., home of developer and philanthropist Alan Ginsburg. The veep hadn’t arrived yet but most of the 150 guests (minimum $500 donation) had. They were busy noshing on caprese crostini with oven-dried mozzarella and basil, rosemary flatbread with grapes honey and gorgonzola cheese and bacon deviled eggs, before a lunch of grilled chicken Caesar and garden vegetable wraps.

Not so for Powers. A “low-level staffer” put Powers in a storage closet and then stood guard outside the door, Powers told the DRUDGE REPORT. “When I’d stick my head out, they’d say, ‘Not yet. We’ll let you know when you can come out.’”

And no crustini for Powers, either. He made do with a bottle of water to sip as he sat at a tiny makeshift desk, right next to a bag marked “consignment.” Powers was closeted at about 11:30 a.m., held for about an hour and 15 minutes, came out for 35 minutes of remarks by Biden and Sen. Bill Nelson, Florida Democrat, and then returned to his jail for the remainder of the event.

Powers’ phone didn’t work in the closet, but his Blackberry did, so he fired a picture of his impromptu prison to his editors, who posted a short blog item on the lack of freedom of the press under the veep’s control.

Powers didn’t mention his confinement in either of his pool reports that day, saying only that “press coverage was limited to a single pool reporter, filing on behalf of all local media, who was allowed to listen to the remarks but not given an opportunity to talk with anyone at the event.”

On Friday, Powers said, the home’s owner called him. “He said he had no idea they’d put me in a closet and was very sorry. He said he was just following their lead and was extremely embarrassed by the whole thing.”

    It’s called ‘False Imprisonment:

    ————–

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5648470/kidnapping_and_false_imprisonment.html

False Imprisonment occurs when an individual unlawfully restrains or detains with physical or verbal force, secretly confines, abducts, or imprisons another for the purpose of preventing one’s ability to move. This in return, is an infringement on the individual’s civil liberties as a result of either lack of consent on the victim’s part or without legal authorization. False imprisonment depending on jurisdiction is usually a misdemeanor and is a lesser form of kidnapping which is a felony. Both require the use of physical restraint and kidnapping must possess the element of movement whereas false imprisonment requires no movement (University of Phoenix, 2010).

    Paging Darrell Issa.

I guess this will be swept under the rug as well. If it had been me, I would have found the sewing basket and left a big steaming stinky Easter Egg in it. Imagine the surprise on Nana’s face when she went to darn the socks.

And again, not a peep from major media outlets. One of their own, locked in a closet against his will, and they (media) still keep their stink holes shut about this. It’s the media’s news-blackout that is the story here. These bags of fecal matter are walking hand in hand with Pres/VP and others. It’s frightening. I was thinking about the 60 Minutes news show the other day. 30 years ago they would go after anybody, Dems or Repubs, and dig up the dirt. Today, only conservatives get it. We are so deep into this socialists/communists agenda, I’m not sure if we will ever see free elections again. Pray for our country.

OMG! This is so outrageous. Can you even imagine a grown man being confined in a closet? He wasn’t tied up, but kept sticking his head out, for permission to leave. WHAT A DAMN FOOL! He should have been throwing some kind of fit, where someone could hear him, or he should have walked out and told his story. Somehow, there must be some details being left out. Otherwise, this is borderline BIZARRE!

It reminds me of that news reporter (in 2008) who tried to get the story about a donor-gathering for Obama, before the Elections. I can’t remember too many details, like the city, or state, or even the major network the reporter worked for, but as he stood in front of the building where the meeting took place, he was ordered to leave, by the PO-PO. He stated that he was a reporter, and it was a public sidewalk, and the police attacked him, chased him out into the street, and ended up arresting him. He finally got out of any kind of “trumped up charge”, but in turn, the whole story just seemed to disappear. The moral of the story was, “YOU CAN’T SEE WHO IS DONATING MONEY, AND GIVING ADVICE/SUPPORT TO OBAMA AND THE DEMS, BEHIND THE SCENES.” That smells like a “DEAD FISH”, to me!

To bad all we have are big freaking pussy’s who write for obama and biden.

    Screw him..

The “low level staffer” of Biden in a government official. That means the staffer’s actions are subject the 4th Amendment, which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures (you’re seized when you’re locket in a closet.) So in addition to the crime of False Imprisonment, and the tort of False Imprisonment, the reporter also has a 1983 action against all government officials who violated the 4th Amendment by locking him in the closet.

(42 U.S.C. § 1983 – for information look at this: http://www.constitution.org/brief/forsythe_42-1983.htm – is the federal statute that in effect monetizes violations of federal rights, by allowing victims to recover financially for such violations in civil court.)

    @ Brian

According to the article, he wasn’t exactly locked up. He could stick his head out, and they kept telling him to get back in the closet, and he kept going back in. So,
they weren’t exactly keeping him from leaving, they were just keeping him from doing his job. And, instead of using his HEAD, he played their game, like some dumbass. I am wondering if he is young, naive, liberal, or all of the above.

What ever happened to our news gatherers?

classic Biden, his son Delaware Attorney General Joe Biden III held Obama’s talkative former gay lover & cocaine partner Larry Sinclair in jail, “coincidentally” deciding to execute the arrest at Sinclair’s press conference at the National Press Club (& btw, tenacious Sinclair’s first book was good & I suspect his next project will be even better)

    @ER -

I actually had a conversation with Larry Sinclair a couple years ago. I admit to going into the conversation with a huge grain of salt, but came out with a much smaller grain by the end of the chat.

He’s either telling the truth (or much of it), or a damn good fiction writer.

    Communication Breakdown

    Our Christian duty calls us
    To say a little prayer,
For those who have bad fortune
Or need the good Lord’s care.

So bow your heads a moment
    And say a prayer sincere,
    For Biden’s lowly staffer
    Who’s ruined his career.

    The VP threw a party
    (For five-hundred a head)
    At Alan Ginsburg’s mansion,
    Inviting those well bred.

    But prior to his entrance
    From D.C. word came down,
    To separate the VP
    From media in town.

And so it was the staffer,
    Who follows orders well,
    Detained the pool reporter
    Within a closet cell.

He did not break out shackles
    Or means to that effect,
    But that lone pool reporter
    Would not with Joe connect.

I’m sad to say that staffer
Was put out on the street,
For he could not be trusted
    In matters most discreet.

    For Washington’s strict orders
    The staffer had misread,
    Were not to cage reporters:
    ’Twas Biden’s cell instead!

    Epilogue:
    I’m well aware this poem
    Is factually incorrect.
But don’t you think with Biden
    It’s true in some respect?
