Pure Class: Sarah Palin extols Geraldine Ferraro’s accomplishments

High road all the way.

(POLITICO) — Sarah Palin took to Twitter and Facebook Saturday to mourn the passing of Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman on a national ticket who “broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more.”

“My family and I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Geraldine Ferraro,” Palin, the second-ever woman on a national ticket, wrote on her Facebook page, about a half-hour after she tweeted about the “sad” passing of Walter Mondale’s running mate.

“When I had the honor of working alongside Geraldine on election night last year, we both discussed the role of women in politics and our excited expectation that someday that final glass ceiling would be shattered by the election of a woman president. She was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to public service as a teacher, prosecutor, Congresswoman, and Vice Presidential candidate. She broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more. The world will miss her. May she rest in peace and may her example of hard work and dedication to America continue to inspire all women.”

Speaking on Fox News, Palin recalled that she and Ferraro had discussed the possibility of a woman becoming president some day. “We were both excited about that,” Palin said.

Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate in 2008, described herself as “standing on [Ferraro’s] shoulders.”

“She was able to pave the way for others,” Palin said. “We went before. She paved the way.”

Palin also said Ferraro “plowed through so many things that allowed the rest of us to progress,” and that she “embraces the idea of the pioneering spirit the America is all about.”

“We disagreed on some aspects of our politics,” she added, “but certainly agreed on the rights women have.”

The former Alaska governor also credited Ferraro for her work with cancer victims. “She was always out there trying to help others,” Palin said.

Even though Ferraro was not always nice when speaking about Palin,
Sarah overlooked all of that. From the minute Geraldine was mentioned in Palin’s coming-out-for-VP-speech, to her passing, Sarah has shown nothing but respect and admiration for Ferraro. INCREDIBLE CLASS ACT!

    pure class, agreed.

    Bachmann was just as gracious.

let the lefties continue to degrade women on the right, it will only convince more and more women from the left who are fair and independent minded that it is the left that is sexist and degrades women openly and with pleasure. That is what I saw in 2008, changed my lifelong registeration from democrat to Independent, and never looked back.

    Thanks Weasel Meister!

People like EarthToMars are one of the reasons that despite having a more then 2 to 1 advantage of voters who identify themselves as being conservative as opposed to being liberal, that we do not win more national and state elections. Hard core ideologues who think and act like he does turns off way too many independents, moderates, and even Reagan Democrats. Saying that they would execute 16 year old girls who have abortions is something that I would expect Muslim fundamentalists to do. Good riddance!

Their is not one lady that can even come close to having the class of Sarah Palin. She can be wading through the mud tracking a moose and be spewing with more class than any liberal woman out there. She has the distinct and unusual ability to shake off, and become stronger regardless of the amount of continued criticism.

For the record, Palin displayed more class than anyone in the WH ever has on anything. Condolences to Ferraro’s family on their painful loss. Off the record Ferraro was a nasty, liberal democrap. She will not be missed.

Anywho, Palin always HAS been a classy individual, which I think pisses the left off resulting in them attacking her nonstop, despite that shes NOT in public service anymore.

Oh well, such is life I guess?

By the way, I am STILL waiting for Sarah to impress me. She is bright and definitely my political type, but lacks the skills to act as a “mover and shaker” on the international stage the way I think someone like John Bolton would.

Sarah Palin gets it. Even as I disagree with Geraldine Ferraro’s politics, she was the first woman to haved a shot at that high office. She was a real feminist, she worked hard for women. I like the “standing on Ferraro’s shoulders” bit, cause, well, it’s the truth. RIP Geraldine Ferraro.

Sarah, of course, is her usual classy self, but don’t pay attention to me, I’m biased. I like her a lot.

Jimmy Page, hard to argue with you because you’re right. But I believe it’s still about ideals. All political movements have their crackpots. Somehow, the many in the loony left get a pass while ours get ripped. Life in liberal MSMland I guess. And I wouldn’t put it past the left to use sockpuppets to plant comments like that. That just means we sane conservatives have to work harder and appeal to those folks to look at who’s actually doing in our country, Obama and the Dems.

Saying complementary things about people when they die clearly shows her ability to perform in the WH unlike that socialist non-American born muslim Obama. And she was so accomplished as Governor she graduated early! Clearly she has the experience to run the country, she has plenty of international experience, (russia is right next door), and im sure she’ll use bush doctrine to the fullest when she helps fix the nation of Africa. Correct -there are double standards – that’s just the way it is. This means that our side has to be 3 times better and smarter then the Left because the media will amplify anything we say that is wrong (“Shot heard ’round theworld” was in New Hampshire?) and ignore Obama’s “Navy corpseman”.

I agree, Bolton would be a perfect Secretary of State. I think West would be a great VP. If the GOP takes it, I would like to see Palin over the Dept. of Energy Innovation and Economic Growth. I think she gets it, and would be an advocate for the people, working to use our own energy sources, etc.

Herman Cain is gaining traction, and he doesn’t seem to be one that is backing down from controversial issues. I am keeping my eye on him.

Both he and West have so much more experience and common sense than Obama, it is pitiful. I am hopeful that enough of the minority population will take a stand, regarding character and values, as they pertain to future generations. There are many people who understand that affirmative action, dumbing down tests, and living off of handouts, are not the only way. I believe Cain or West on the ticket, would fracture the vote, as it pertains to color versus
character. Neither of these men are an empty suit. JMO

Off point but kinda on point: I remember when Mondale chose Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. She was your typical hardened feminist — bitchy, defiant, cold-hearted — all the traits the left holds dear. I remember one of her comebacks to George H. in their debate. She was all bitch, no human. Clearly if George treated her the way she treated him he could justifiably be accused of kicking a woman in public. So he bit his lip and took it (I suppose you could say he took it for the Gipper). That memory of her always stuck in my mind.

I don’t know when she dug out from beneath the merciless landslide Reagan put on her, but all of sudden she reappeared on the landscape in ’08, and I was pleasantly surprised to see her speak so candidly about O, as he was untouchable at the time. Kudos to her.

My last recollection of her was seeing her on FOX last year. She was no longer the defiant bitch incoherently asserting woman’s rights in sound-bite talking points. She had softened. Maybe it was the cancer. Maybe it was the way the media treated her. Maybe it was age. Hell, maybe it was my imagination. Whatever it was, she didn’t seem the same to me — she seemed less feminist and more human, which I’m sure made it easy for someone such as Palin to take the high road, though Sarah has convinced me she would take it anyway.

All that is to say, RIP, Geraldine Ferraro, may your family know peace as well.

You sound like a grownup to me. My radio hero, Bob Grant, assailed her daily. And yet Bob and Gerry didn’t hold grudges and they became on air friends. That’s because maturity helps you realize politics is a shallow barometer of the state of one’s soul sometimes.

I can understand liberals ripping her to shreds, she’s a threat they can’t ignore. It’s the republicans and some self-proclaimed conservatives I can’t understand. If she’s made mistakes or missteps, fine, address those, but it’s infuriating to hear people say, “she’s unelectable,” because the left has told them so.

I like her in the position she’s in, able to speak her mind without owing anyone, anything. I prefer she not sully herself and become a candidate again. She’s too good for politics in my opinion.

Agreed! I am hoping that the individuals that choose to run, will man-up to their low numbers, and throw their weight behind one candidate.

Each election cycle, or each decade, I should say, this country goes through certain issues (growing pains/crisis) which should be indicative of the type of experience we are looking for, in electing our Prez, and VP. This last time around, we desperately needed a POTUS with vast financial/economic experience and strength, as well as foreign policy background. We needed a VP with Military Strategy/Defense knowledge and experience. What we got was a VP with Foreign policy experience/knowledge, which apparently spilled out of his head over the past 30 years. He should know some things, but whatever he did know, is all jumbled up in his head, now. And, as we all know, we got a POTUS who is clueless on so many different levels, it boggles the mind.

I hope, in 2012, we will choose a person who has run something, has some idea of how Capitalism is suppose to work, and who is pro-American and who believes in American Exceptionalism. In addition, the POTUS needs to have economic/financial knowledge, so he knows what he is talking about. He needs to be thoughtful, but foremost decisive. Our VP has got to know, and have experience with foreign policy, Military Science, and for God’s sake, needs to know how to speak about these issues with some factual basis. (Allen West fits my idea of a VP.) JMO
