Serial Adulterer Newt Parses the Difference Between an Oath and a Vow

Here the lying manipulator waxes eloquent as he condemns Clinton for violating an oath but ignores his violation of his marriage vows.
(POLITICO) — Pressed on “Fox News Sunday” about his adulterous past, Newt Gingrich said it was not hypocritical for him to impeach Bill Clinton while he cheated on his own wife because he never lied under oath.
“I don’t know what you would have had me do,” he said, getting a little testy, “because . . . the president of the United States [was] committing perjury. Remember, he’s a lawyer! This was not some accidental thing. And I thought the outcome was about right.”
The all-but-official candidate for the Republican presidential nomination granted that his own extramarital affairs will be an issue in the coming campaign, but he sounded hopeful that voters will, if they don’t forgive or forget, at least look the other way.
“We’ll find out six months or a year from now whether people are forgiving and whether they put in context events that are 10 and 15 years old,” Gingrich said.
The former House speaker from Georgia said it didn’t bother him that he was throwing rocks at Clinton as president while living in his own metaphorical glass house. He said he would have resigned his leadership post if he didn’t think he could go after Clinton for breaking the law.
“It’s not about personal behavior, and it’s not about what he did in the Oval Office,” Gingrich said of his failed 1998 effort to destroy Clinton. “You can condemn that. You can say it’s totally inappropriate. It was about a much deeper and more profound thing: Does the president of the United States have to obey the law? Or as long as he’s popular, or she’s popular, can they flout the law? Do we become a third world country where the leader gets to get anyway with anything they want to but you and I obey the law?”
“Look, obviously it’s complex and obviously I wasn’t doing things to be proud of,” he added. “On the other hand, what I said very clearly, and I knew this in part having gone through a divorce, I had been in depositions. I had been in situations where you had to swear to tell the truth. I understood that in a federal court, in a case in front of a federal judge, to commit a felony — which is what he did — perjury was a felony. And the question I raised was very simple. Should a president of the United States be above the law? Now I don’t think the president of the United States can be above the law.”
“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace noted that Gingrich cheated on both his first and second wives.
“I want to talk about your personal life,” Wallace said, broaching the issue in the larger context of whether Gingrich is disciplined enough to run for president. “I hate doing it, but you know it’s going to be an issue in the campaign and so I’m going to go there.”
Wallace played the clip of Gingrich suggesting in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network earlier this month that his affair was “partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country.”
“Speaker, you’ve had more than a decade to come up with an answer and, in all honesty, there are a lot of people who thought that answer was kind of lame,” Wallace told Gingrich. “That wouldn’t work with my wife!”
Gingrich tried to contextualize the much-mocked clip.
“I went on to say that I had to seek God’s forgiveness, and I had to seek reconciliation and I had to believe that being genuinely repentant mattered,” he said.
He touted his happy third marriage to Callista Gingrich, a former aide who figures prominently in most of his public appearances.
Callista Gingrich is 22 years younger than Newt Gingrich. Ironically, Monica Lewinsky was 22 years old when she had her sexual encounters with Clinton.
“People have to measure, at 67, have I matured? Am I person that they can trust and rely on as a leader? And discipline is part of it,” Gingrich said. “And I think that’s a legitimate question. And I expect the American people will in the end be remarkably fair.”
“They’ll render judgment and they’ll decide whether or not Newt Gingrich is someone who can solve the country’s problems and can be the kind of leader they want for this country,” he added, speaking in the third person. “I don’t think I’m perfect. I’ve admitted that I’ve had problems. I’ve admitted that I’ve sought forgiveness, but I also think that over time if you look at my total record I’m a pretty effective leader.”

Newt needs to partake in a nice warm cup of stfu.
Still FOS Noot is covered with his own slime and fails to believe anybody else will see it!
Drop dead Newtie.
Buh-bye.
This is what happens when you sit on a couch with the Botox-Bolshevik, Nancy Pelosi.
Say hello to my little glass of hemlock. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaa haaa. Be a consultant or a cabinet member but you will not be my President!
“America has no native criminal class, with the possible exception of Congress.”
Mark Twain
Well he was the chief author of ” The Contract With America “, you know, another vow/oath he and a lot of other GOPers shit all over.
Stick to writing books Newt, that’s one thing you’re good at.
Rino ! What comes around goes around.
not a fan of newt, but I do think he is a policy wonk.
but if its the community orgaziner vs Newt
Newt all the way, hopefully there will be many solid constiutional conservatives in the senate to hold the line. But newt would be a million times better than the community agitator.
not a fan of newt, but I do think he is a policy wonk.

Not really, he really fucked up in New York-23 when he put his full weight behind a Dem posing as a Republican.
Whatever magic he had in ’94 is long gone.
Newt is one of the reasons we find ourselves right where we are now. He should stick to writing history books and keep his nose far out of politics.

yes, that was the dede candidate, right?
oh yes, bad mistake there on his part. he seems to try and change stripes a lot, I dont like that.
I like palin, bachmann, trump
but at this point there is no repub I will not vote for against the community organizer.
As J.D. said – this guy lost me sitting on the sofa with SanFranNan.
Suck up much? You betcha. Waffle? You want boysenberry or maple?
That said – if it gets down to him and the Zero, I’ll be wearing a Newt button.
Him or pretty much anybody room temperature and up.
I’m not holding down much hope with the intelligence of the average voter – conservative or otherwise.

I agree, if it comes down to it, I guess I’d have to hold my nose while voting for Newt just like I did McCain of course Sarah made that a whole lot more palatable. But like I said above, Newt is a big part of the problem we find ourselves in now, not the solution.
Why, oh why can’t the GOP put forth any interesting and invigorating candidates instead of constantly recycling the same old bunch of garbage ?
Newt would be eleventybillion times better than Obama…..When all the anti newt folks wake up to that fact it will be good. Eating our own young is destructive and moronic. IMHO.
I think they should have impeached Clinton for taking commie China campaign contributions and selling dual use nuke technology. Thanks to that, we now have China pointing long-range-nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles at our major cities. THAT is what they should have gone after him for. TREASON.
with about 50% of the marriages in the US ending in divorce it will be tough to find someone that is 100% PURE
if the gop wants to win, nominate herman cain.
he is the only person who can beat the traitor in chief.
I’ll see you a Herman Cain and raise you an Allen West. Love to see these two on a ticket together, it would be awesome.
Suck it, Newt.
I do not in any way support Newt for president. He’s a Beltway Boy. (Give me Palin, Cain, Bachmann, West, Rubio) However, cheating on a spouse and lying under oath are NOT the same. This is the same BS the left has pushed for nearly 15 years–Clinton was impeached for cheating. Not true. Don’t support Newt for whatever reason, but quit helping the left with their strawman arguments. (Hello, this is a lefty Politico article) On the other hand, Newt should have seen this coming. He should have known the left would use it against him and the right would jump on the bandwagon.
Brilliant historian but he has absolutely no ethics or morals. Wouldn’t vote for him if he was the only one running.

It’s not the adultery thats the issue for most of us it’s the fact that he’s a flaming RINO who consistently has caused more harm for our cause than good over the past ten years.
Sitting on the sofa with Nazi Pelosi and the debacle he helped to cause in NY-23 are just two of them that come to mind.
Anyway, nice to see a fellow Virginian on here.
Motorman,
50% of marriages end in divorce because people get divorced multiple times. If you stay married till one of you dies, you only count once
My one marriage plus newt’s three = four marriages. Newt’s two divorces means 50% of these marriages ended in divorce.
Getting a divorce is one thing, cheating on your sick wife while going after the president for getting blown by an intern is another.
Newt is absolutely right. The impeachment wasn’t “just about sex.” It was about perjury.
That said, I do wish Newt would go away.
I couldn’t care less if he cheated on his wife. Kennedy sat in the Senate for decades and he would rent out entire brothels while committing treason by giving away secrets and making deals with our enemies. Barney Frank’s boyfriend ran a prostitution ring out of his apartment. No one, including Chris Wallace ever said boo about any of this. Newt should have pointed that out and said “what else you got?”
It really is a non-issue. Newt will stand or fall on how trustworthy he is when it comes to repealing every single thing Obama has done while in office. That is all I want to hear and all I care about. If Newt can convince me he is the man to do that then he can marry a newt of the four-legged variety and practice voodoo for all I care.
Newt has the same disease as John McCain: “In sickness and in health” : I will not be married to a sick person: period.
Neither one is fit to be President Of The United States.
I personally would not want him as the US president because his multiple cheating goes to ” character”, and I think he is a RINO, HOWEVER I have to agree with his argument here. It WAS about lying under oath that was the real issue with Clinton. If Clinton had just admited ” Ya hey I had sex with that woman and I still have the cigar” he would not have been “breaking the law”-he would have been despised and shamed but he would not been breaking a law. There is no law that says the President cannot have sexual relations outside his marriage or in his office on the White House. There is a big difference between personally cheating (lying) in your private life and lying in a court of law when you have taken an oath to tell the truth. You can go to jail for the one not the other. Clinton being an officer of the court (lawyer) well knew this.
Voting for McCant permanently damaged me and I will never be able to do that again. If I cannot vote for a conservative then I am voting for the liberal. At least the lib is not lying about being a conservative like the rinos (ex. newt).
@John Difool Why, oh why can’t the GOP put forth any interesting and invigorating candidates instead of constantly recycling the same old bunch of garbage ?
Because they are the problem. They want to play politics and either pretend or actually even worse – believe things aren’t as bad as they are. So they ignore Palin and Bachmann types and anybody else that will be from outside of the system/club. The Tea Party is just an inconvenience. People like West can be marginalized. The media will help.
The Mayan calendar might be correct for none of the reasons people assume!
As to cheating- if my life was in danger and I need the best surgeon around to perform surgery on me to save my life would I care if he was a cad and cheater in his personal life ? No. I would be soley concerned about surgical skills and abilities. If Gingrich can cut away all Obama has done I don’t care if he is a whoremonger..

That’s just the thing, he can’t be trusted. He’s already shown a complete willingness to pick up the global warming flag and run with it and as we all know, green is the new red.
Newt should have learned the Universal law long ago, you reap what you sow.
Yep. Newt is purty much toast.
He was trusted once and he blew it big time. I do not want to see him trusted with the Presidency.
For the sake of his country he should shut up and go away.
Not a Newt fan. Lets be clear. But he’s better than barry. Hell, a ham sandwich is better than Barry.
that being said, if Newt didnt expect this level media focus on his adultery, then he’s not nearly as bright as he likes to think he is. He’s a republican (yea, RINO) but that R means the press will go after him like piranha at the smell of blood.
and for the last time (it feels like I am debating some of my liberal friends) President Wandering Penis was not impeached for boning the fat girl. He was impeached for lying to federal prosecutors under oath that he didnt bone the fat girl…and thereby denying an american citizen (paula jones) her justly due date in court.
newt cheated on his wife. multiple times if i understand it correctly. big difference between the 2.
either way, he’s unelectable in 2012

*cough* Palin *cough*
For those equating Newt’s indiscretions with an all or nothing vs Obama, Newtie doesn’t have the Repub nomination. There’s a whole crew of people out there. As long as there’s someone better to pick from *cough* Palin *cough*, Newt’s a TOTAL non-starter. (He’s BIG on amnesty, too.)
Nothing beat the published interview with one of his former wives when she said, “I believe that Newt believes in the ideals of the Tea Party, just not for himself, however.”
‘ol newt is one horny toad haha
“I don’t know what you would have had me do,”
I would have you stand down.
Difol…The Lizard did not write Contact With America. The GOP had it for years and was finaly able to get it out with The Speaker aka The Lizard. The The newt excused partical adoption of it with “…well we passed half of it”.
There is NO way he will win the Conservative nomination although the DC GOP might think so.
Forget Cain, Col West has it all with management, foreign & military experience…he will be the perfect tickett of Palin/West and the GOP POTUS for the next 16 years!!!
So lying to a federal judge under oath is the same as cheating on your wife?
Yeah I don’t think so. You don’t even know what a Rino is anymore Zip.
Not apologizing for Newt
Clinton was a fucking liar and a crook and deserved what he got and a lot more.
Beg to differ Zip. There is a big difference and you are taking the side of all the democrats who stood in the way of Clinton’s impeachment. They said Clinton was being victimized by Republicans (remember the Democratic leaders holding hands on the Capitol steps w Kennedy in the lead) because all Clinton did was cheat on his wife when that was NEVER the case. It was about a US President lying under oath while president and saying he was above the law.
I see there is a fine bunch of Newt bashers here today but no one offers an better alternate. We need a man steeped in what Islam is and isn’t. F**k the tea party and their crazy accusations about Obama being a secret muslim and being obsessed with deficit spending. We won’t have a deficit or a health care system if someone doesn’t stop the Islamic juggernaut. West says he won’t run. Yet Newt is the only one who knows ISLAMIC HISTORY and what that tells us about the future if we keep ignoring the elephant in the room.
Does anyone think M Bachmann or Tim Pawlenty knows the importance of the Battle of Tours, or has bothered to learn about classical jihad? I didn’t think so. Newt does. Not my first pick but until someone else can show some understanding of the global jihad, I’m going with Newt.
Et tu, Brute?
this was the guy who led the Republicans to their FIRST significant Congessional victory in my (60 year) lifetime. He’s not running for Pope. I love Newt, but he is TOO smart (really smart, not like B.O.) to be POTUS.
Give him a break, he deserves a voice in our future…
The day when I will vote for some rolled in glitter party hack turd as the lesser of two evils is loooooooong past. And judging from what I am reading here and elsewhere, Newt does not have a chance in hell of ever winning.

He has been an idiot ever since Clinton out maneuvered him over the government shut down. I wish he would go away or just make out with Nancy Pelosi on that couch. How is Dede Scozzafava doing?
Newt has been part of the problem for years. The republican party has been socialism-lite for far too long.
USorthem
You are a complete moron. The TEA party and Sarah Palin saved this country and all you can do is knock them. Go back to huffpo where you belong.

Well Said!!
No Newt is good Newt. He’s not Tea Party friendly because of his penchant to be a RINO. The media keeps trying to shove candidates down our throats that are worthless in the new reality of politics.
Ringo asks, “So lying to a federal judge under oath is the same as cheating on your wife?”
No, and if you check the post you’ll notice that you’re the only person who made this stupid conclusion.
And you make my point. Clinton was a liar and he deserved what he got and a lot more. Ditto for Newt, who is no less of a liar. Notice the title of the post and look up the difference between an oath and a vow. Newt would be the second coming of Bill, though with conservative inclinations. In the end, however, you can no more trust him than you can Bill.
Hopefully, he won’t make it through the primaries. We don’t need another Bob Dole.
Newt may be smart. I have no doubt he knows his history -but can he apply it? And will historical arguments win the day when the main issue is going to be “it’s the economy stupid?” We are going to have to get our financial house in order or else we won’t have anything to fight radical Islam with.
