Pelosi: Republican Budget Will Force Seniors Into Starvation, Invokes Gospel of Matthew to Justify Bloated Government Spending…

(Fox Nation) — On Monday during a photo opportunity for the Hunger Fast Coalition, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the Republican budget will force seniors into starvation. The former House Speaker also used “the Gospel” to justify more government spending.
“In one of the bills before us, six million seniors are deprived of meals — homebound seniors are deprived of meals. People ask us to find our common ground, the middle ground. Is middle ground three million seniors not receiving meals? I don’t think so. We’ve got to take this conversation from a debate about numbers and dollar figures and finding middle ground there to the higher ground of national values. I don’t think the American people want any one of those six million people to lose their meals or the children who are being thrown off of Head Start and the rest of it.”
“When I hear you speak about this issue, of course it’s the Gospel of Matthew: When I was hungry, he gave me to eat and the rest of it goes on. And when I hear Reverend Wallis talk about priorities, I can’t help but think about the fact that in these same budgets, we are talking about, they give tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to Big Oil to drill when they are making a trillion dollars over 10 years in profits, that we are giving tax breaks to companies to send jobs overseas. We’re doing that as we say to seniors, homebound seniors: “You no longer will have food coming to you in your homes.”

I bet a lot of folks don’t remember that according to the Budget Act, Congress is supposed to pass a budget by April 15th, and the 13 appropriations bills by Oct 1th, the beginning of the next fiscal year.
Last year, I [Nancy Pelosi] never passed a budget. I did get Congress to “deem” a budget passed in July. And those 13 appropriations bills … well that’s hard work and I “don’t do appropriations bills.”
I don’t regret my criminal past, but I do miss my fleet of jets.
The Bible doesn’t mention that people should be forced to “help” others by way of the government either!

The “tax breaks” and “subsidies” she speaks of are called “intangible drilling costs” in the industry. Pretty much every business in the country gets to write off these same types of expenses (non-capital equipment expenditures).

I always think it funny to hear lefties quote the Bible, since most of the time they are slamming people who profess too great a belief in it. BTW Nancy, the quote from Matthew you are referring to; Christ is talking about individuals not governments. You don’t find salvation by stealing money from one group of people and giving it to another. When Jesus said “Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my bretheren, ye have done it unto me” he wasn’t referring to you taking money that isn’t yours and graciously giving it to someone else. It’s easy to give money that doesn’t belong to you.

Hey Nancy, Jesus never said that “government” should go into debt taking care of people.
Since Jesus was speaking to religious Jews, his charge to help people was to the religious people. He wasn’t talking to Caesar, He wasn’t talking to Pilate or Herod or any government official. The task of taking care of people was not to be taken over by government.
The Bible says that people in leadership positions will face a harsher judgment, so maybe Nancy can explain why she didn’t let religious people do what Jesus tasked them to do.
