Taliban Whine: “The Marines Run Toward Our Bullets!”…

Bing West files a report from his time embedded with Third Platoon of Kilo Company, Fifth Marine Regiment, in Sangin. His March dispatch adds another anecdote about the issue I raised in January: that the US Marines seem more aggressive than their predecessors in the volatile district, and Helmand province as a whole, and the Taliban react to this difference accordingly [emphasis mine]:
I had embedded with the platoon once before, in January, so the routine was familiar. A point man on a patrol detects one or more IEDs, and then a Taliban gang in civilian clothes usually opens fire. Marine snipers and machine-gunners shoot back, while a squad maneuvers around the flank, forcing the enemy to retreat. . . .
Since September, the Third Platoon has shot somewhere between 125 and 208 Taliban — as many as one enemy killed per patrol. That rate may not seem high, but the cumulative effect has been crushing. Marine tactics, like Ohio State football, have the subtle inevitability of a steamroller. “We got a radio intercept yesterday,” Lt. Garcia said. “Some Talib leaders in Pakistan were chewing out the local fighters for quitting. The locals yelled back, ‘Marines run toward our bullets.’”
West’s football metaphor and anecdote more efficiently echo my assessment, which was based on my embed in northern Helmand last summer:
But I can attest that the story of USMC entry into northern Helmand has been invariably, incrementally the same: Wherever the Marines took over for the British, the Taliban would initially engage them in stand-up fights, attacking with small arms fire and traditional ambushes; but after a period of about three to six weeks, the insurgents alter their tactics to rely heavily on IEDs and “shoot and scoot” small arms attacks at a distance.

Says alot of what the British forces must have been doing that was so different from what the US Marines are doing now. Im not bad mouthing the British military but sounds like to me the taliban must have got THEM to retreat, unlike the Marines who advance on them. At least that is what im getting from this story. Now if only the dumbass politicians would just unleash the marines and get rid of all those stupid ROE’s we could have the taliban on the ropes in no time, but of course with Oblahblah and Holder that isnt about to happen. Priorities ya know. Dumbass politicians are the reason we are not winning this war. Too much interference from fatass lawyers and politicians sitting thousands of miles away with agendas of their own that run against what we should be acheiving.
Marines are taught to shoot and shoot well.

I think that this has been true of Marine Corps operation for a long time. During Viet Nam there were marked differences in the way that Marine units conducted operations from nearby Army units.
The Marines’ reputation for aggressiveness is apparently well earned.
As for the Taliban, it must present a real tactical nightmare. The Marines have superior firepower, air superiority, night vision, aerial drones, and an aggressive combat doctrine.

Unlike little school girls and Christians trying to pray…Marines shoot back and counter-attack and then there’s that nasty air cover….but Muslims continue to attack and die…but their Qur’an tells them it’s OK to killed and be killed…the Marines are happy to make it happen…

Did anyone catch the point “Some Talib leaders in Pakistan were chewing out the local fighters for quitting.” Paki is throwing out hundreds of CIA/Spec Ops that are fighting taliban in Pakistan that are keeping these animals somewhat in check. Yet we have direct evidence that the play callers are in Pakistan directing fighters in Afg, gonna get a lot worse with the drones and spec ops boys out of the fight.

Unfortunately, that is a possible scenario given the state of the people who are tasked with protecting our borders– ?Obama?, ?Napolitano?, ?Eric Holder?
But if God is smiling on us, he will find a way to send people like you, who look forward to that day, to their “reward” before they have an opportunity to kill American civilians as others like you do to innocents who don’t agree with you all over the world.
