Chain-smoking, nicotine-saturated, black-lunged president who turned the entire US healthcare system on its head claims coal causes asthma

Remarkably, real doctors disagree.

How did this idiot ever win anything, let alone the White House?

(CNSNews.com) — President Barack Obama claimed that coal could create “the kinds of air pollution” that is “creating asthma for kids,” in speaking at a town hall event in Annandale, Va., on Tuesday. However, the National Institutes of Health says that “the exact cause of asthma isn’t known” and that “asthma is different for each person.”

“The challenge with coal is that although it’s very cheap, it’s also dirty. And it can create the kinds of air pollution that not only is contributing to climate change but is also creating asthma for kids nearby,” Obama said in answer to a question about balancing deficit reduction with government spending on clean energy.

“You got asthma? Okay. And so sucking that stuff in is not ideal,” said Obama. “So what we’ve said is, let’s invest in clean coal technology that potentially can capture some of these particulates and some of the carbon dioxide that’s going into the atmosphere.”

Asthma, however, is not caused by coal, or the emissions from coal-fired power plants, as the president suggested. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) the true cause of asthma is unknown, although scientists believe it is caused by a confluence of genetic and environmental factors or early viral infections.

“The exact cause of asthma isn’t known. Researchers think some genetic and environmental factors interact to cause asthma, most often early in life,” the NIH states on its Web site.

“These factors include: An inherited tendency to develop allergies, called atopy (AT-o-pe); parents who have asthma; certain respiratory infections during childhood; contact with some airborne allergens or exposure to some viral infections in infancy or in early childhood when the immune system is developing,” states the NIH.

The NIH did say that respiratory irritants, such as air pollution, can trigger an asthma attack, but not that air pollution causes the disease. The NIH also noted that not all asthma sufferers are affected by the same triggers, meaning that, for some, air pollution may have no effect at all.

“Triggers may include . . . Irritants such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, chemicals or dust in the workplace, compounds in home décor products, and sprays (such as hairspray),” the NIH said.

“Asthma is different for each person. Some of the triggers listed above may not affect you,” stated the NIH.

Obama made his remarks at a town hall discussion — “Shared Responsibility and Shared Prosperity” — at the Annandale, Va., campus of the Northern Virginia Community College.

Concerns about the toxic mercury in CFLs are downplayed by the bulbs’ advocates, but they shouldn’t be. According to EPA and other sources, the safe limit is 300 nanograms per cubic meter. When a broken CFL was reported in Maine, the state’s Department of Environmental Protection did the most extensive testing in the nation to evaluate the health risk. Its 160-page report is shocking:

Mercury concentration in the study room air often exceeds the…300 nanograms per cubic meter (ng/m3) for some period of time, with short excursions over 25,000 ng/m3, sometimes over 50,000 ng/m3. Link

The Maine report states that although following its recommended procedure for home cleanup

produces visibly clean flooring surfaces for both wood and carpets, all types of flooring surfaces tested can retain mercury sources even when visibly clean. Flooring surfaces, once visibly clean, can emit mercury immediately at the source that can be greater than 50,000 ng/m3[.]

The recommended cleanup procedures are onerous, inconvenient, time consuming and must be followed exactly to avoid exacerbating the health risk and incurring financial expense. For example, EPA Link recommends:

Never use a vacuum cleaner to clean up mercury… The vacuum will put mercury into the air and increase exposure.” You will also be looking at the cost of a new vacuum cleaner, because the Maine DEP research found it “difficult to impossible” to decontaminate a vacuum even with the advantage of sophisticated instruments the homeowner doesn’t have.

Never use a broom to clean up mercury. It will break the mercury into smaller droplets and spread them.

Never pour mercury down a drain. It may lodge in the plumbing and cause future problems during plumbing repairs…or cause pollution of the septic tank or sewage treatment plant.

Never wash clothing or other items that have come in direct contact with mercury in a washing machine, because mercury may contaminate the machine and/or pollute sewage.

Um, I told y’all about this before I think. From the hill I’m on, you can see 3 sets of smokestacks for coal burning power plants and another one for a nuclear facility. Nothing except steam comes out of any of them. I know people who work there who swear you could drink it without ill effects. There is zero ash from these smokestacks.

So once again he’s just fucking lying. It pisses me off that he’s doing it at a community college and using kid’s asthma as a way to promote his anti-coal agenda.

Among other things, this comment stand out the most. Of the 5 things we should be concerned with this stands out the most:

    1. An Incompetent President – The President is inexperienced and incompetent. He is likely a fraud, as evidenced by his guarded and unknown past. He is incapable of leadership, honesty, or management. Virtually every one of his policy initiatives has been harmful to the economy and country. His intentions are clear; the degree to which he will be able to drive us further down the Road to Serfdom is not.

    His intentions are clear.

    Hygiene Hypothesis.

Several studies a have tied the increase in asthma and the other diseases to a lack of low level exposure to pathogens and allergens during childhood.

One study noted a lack of asthma among farm kids who had exposure to dust, animals and all the stuff on farms.

Forget college, I doubt Obumbles has even graduated from high school.

My cousin is a chemical engineer who was able to retire in his 50s because he was so good at his job AND investing. Whenever he hears someone talk about coal being dirty, it looks like he’s been punched in the gut.

He spent the last few years of his “employee” life working on clean-coal technology and now consults on it for his own business. He’s such an honest, boyscout-type of guy that I think the fact that people blatantly lie about it hits him worse than anything. He’s from coal country and sees how bad the economy is in that rustbelt. Here is something that has the potential to power greater swaths of America and provide jobs to those who want them — and it’s being squandered by a bunch of watermelon communists.

And, Barry, all those high-rises you want to shove everyone into, courtesy of the UN’s Agenda 21? Most innercity kids have asthma that’s exacerbated by roach droppings. I imagine having everyone concentrated in roach motels will have the Death Panels signing warrants left and right.

I am still not sure how this man got into the White House. As far as won fair and square, I will never believe it. I think he begged, borrowed, and stole his way in. He reeks of corruption, and has been trained and schooled by the left since the day he was born. (where ever in the sam hill that was) This quote I found says it all.
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.”~ Prager Zeitung, Prague Newspaper, 28 April 2010
