ABC News’ Call Bullshit on Obama’s Excuse Why He Released Birth Certificate: It Wasn’t Ryan’s Budget, He Was Deflecting Coverage of the Economy…

Every once in a while the MSM does its job.

ABC News’ Jake Tapper reports:

The president said he was prompted to act “two weeks ago, when the Republican House had put forward a budget that will have huge consequences potentially to the country, and when I gave a speech about my budget and how I felt that we needed to invest in education and infrastructure and making sure that we had a strong safety net for our seniors even as we were closing the deficit, during that entire week the dominant news story wasn’t about these huge, monumental choices that we’re going to have to make as a nation. It was about my birth certificate. And that was true on most of the news outlets that were represented here.”

But the president was wrong.

According to Pew’s Project for Excellence in Journalism, that week the dominant news story was without question the economy.

The ridiculous claims about the president’s birth certificate actually was the No. 4 story for the week — receiving about one tenth of the coverage devoted to stories about the economy.

According to Pew’s PEJ: “Hardly dipping from the previous week’s level of 40%, news about the economy was the top story in all media sectors studied, from cable TV to the Internet. And the particularly high level of coverage in cable (53%) and radio (52%), two politics-heavy platforms, indicated just how politically loaded the debate about federal spending was.

“Much of the coverage consisted of analysis of the speech Wednesday by President Obama, one that based on listening to many press accounts renewed support for the President among much of his liberal base. Obama was also the dominant newsmaker in 13% of stories — double that of the previous week — a bigger share than any week since January 24-30, when Obama gave the State of the Union. (To be a dominant newsmaker, someone must be featured in at least 50% of a story.)

My favorite part of yesterday’s “Birth Certificate Release-a-palooza” was when Barry said we had so many more important things to focus on then flew off to do Oprah’s show and then on to New York for a DNC fundraiser. Best part, for sure.

It’s interesting to see the usual MSM lapdogs are starting to wise up to what a two bit fraud Obama is. So even his birth certificate release couldn’t knock attention off our economy’s dismal performance on his watch. While I believe most of the MSM will fall in line behind Obama as November 2012 draws nearer, it’s obvious that to a lot of people “The Thrill Is Gone.”

The strategy of Central Planning assumes that the ‘Expert Planners’ actually be experts in their respective fields.

There is a problem with implementing this plan in a political setting. People that are good at seizing control of a factory are not necessarily the best people to run the factory. Those are mutually exclusive skill-sets.

Central planning also fails when someone becomes irreplaceable. (not accountable to share holders) If a person cannot be fired, he stops cooperating with others.

    ————-

It doesn’t matter. We have no more information today than we had two weeks ago. Absence of evidence is not evidence of anything. If the BC is not proof of his eligibility then it’s not proof of his ineligibility either.

Official documents contain security features so that their authenticity can be verified. The security features in our money ensure that it is not counterfeit. Since it’s impossible to establish whether the BC was faked or not (absolutely no security used), the whole thing must be thrown out as erroneous data.

Best case scenario: The birth certificate is meaningless. It’s a distraction.

The release of the president’s long-form certificate proving his birth in Hawaii will not stop the attempts to discredit Obama’s leadership. The so-called “birther”/tea baggers movement veils a much more basic challenge to Obama’s legitimacy and it is that the challenge has to do with his race and not his legitimacy. It’s no surprise then that Donald Trump, the example of a bloated, egocentric , self centered bigot and racist, has already moved on to questioning the grounds for President Obama’s admission to Harvard. No rational person doubts the intellectual gifts of the president. They’ve been on display for decades. It’s hard to imagine a movement demanding proof that President George W. Bush was admitted to Yale or to Harvard Business School on the basis of his academic performance. The point is not to question Obama’s intellect. The point is to suggest illegitimacy.

Can anyone explain this: If two Mexicans citizens cross the US border and deliver a baby, is that baby a “natural born citizen”? If yes, why do some continue to argue that Obama’s father was a Kenyan, so that makes Obama not a natural born citizen?
Also, what about Obama’s time in Indonesia? Was he made an Indonesia citizen, and did he thereby lose his American citizenship? Did he get it back when her returned to Hawaii? And what about his legal name change to Barry Soetoro? Did he ever legally change it back? I think his passport records are more interesting than his college grades.

SoCal–I doubt the intellectual gifts of the president.
Anyone who calls himself a “constitutional scholar” ought to have more than substitute teaching an L1 course for a few years. Where are his scholarly publications? What guest lectures has he given? What cases has he argued in front of high courts? He was not even tenured faculty at U Chicago. Anyone who has spent years in academia knows that someone lacking these credentials is not considered serious. Graduating Harvard Law does not a priori make you a constitutional scholar or a gifted intellectual.

@SoCAL: Why is it with you folks that everything is about race? For folks that are supposed to be “color blind” you sure bring it up often enough. Why is it that you are so sure that every time someone disagrees with Obama about something, or questions something about him that race is the determining factor? Could it be that in the back of your mind you see it as a factor, so you assume that everyone else does?

Or are you just so locked into that leftist liberal mindset that says all conservatives are racists that you can’t wrap your brain around the concept that some folks might disagree on some other basis?

Really, you are starting to sound like a broken record.

Also, show everyone in these “decades” where Obama has actually done anything to create and grow wealth for others (not himself as he has been ‘taken care of’ his whole life), and NOT just gotten into positions where he has simply collected it from others.

    From the article-
“Less than half of GOP voters in Georgia, North Carolina, and Mississippi are glad that the North won the Civil War:

-In Georgia 47% of Republicans are content with the Union victory, while 31% wish the South had won. Democrats (58/17) and independents (54/19) are both strongly supportive of the North, making the overall numbers 53/23.

-In North Carolina GOP voters are almost evenly divided on the outcome of the war with 35% glad for the North’s victory, ”

So yeah, about half of Republicans are love the Confederacy more than America.

  36. Random in Texas says:
    April 28, 2011 at 1:33 pm

@Liberal: I think you are overgeneralizing here.

In all cases, more of those Republicans polled were “happy” or “content” with the Union victory. This should make you happy! Instead you focus on those who wish the South had won. I should point out that just because they might wish the South had won, for whatever reason, this does not logically translate into “loving the Confederacy more than America.”

You also need to look at the states in question. I can easily understand how people in Georgia might feel this way. Have you never heard of Sherman’s march through Georgia? While you might feel that the scorched-earth tactics Sherman used were justified (after all, these were traitorous, racist bigots, right?) I am sure that those on the receiving end were less than happy. Such things tend to span generations and are remembered in family histories.

Mississippi was the site of some fierce fighting as well; so was North Carolina.

Additionally, back then, many people believed that they had the right to secede from the Union. They had entered voluntarily after all. In the South, the Civil War (which is a misnomer anyway, since it wasn’t a “civil war”, but rather a “war of secession”) is known as the “War of Northern Aggression.” Many in the south fought because their state was being invaided. I noticed in stats that 11% of blacks wish the South had won. One of the people in the comments opined that “they must have misunderstood the question.” Not necessarily so. There were blacks who wanted to fight for the south against the north. Some, even though slaves, felt a sense of “patriotism” for their state, and wanted to fight the “invaders.” Southern leaders were understandably hesitant at the thought of arming slaves.

Keep in mind too, that back then, people felt more “patriotism” toward their state than they did the United States as a whole. Robert E. Lee, for an example, turned down Lincoln’s offer of command of the Union forces, not because he “loved” the Confederacy more than he did the Union, but because Virginia had joined the Confederacy, and he was a Virginian.

This whole issue is much more complex than people want to make it out to be today. The survey is interesting, but one shouldn’t read too much into it. It would be even more interesting to find the reasons why people answered the questions as they did. But of course, survey data never contains that sort of information.

  37. Random in Texas says:
    April 28, 2011 at 1:43 pm

Keep in mind too, that AFTER the war, the South was devestated. The North was much more interested in retribution than they were in reconciliation. This probably has a lot to do with people remembering the war long after it ended, and probably wishing it had ended differently.

  38. Keith in Seattle says:
    April 28, 2011 at 1:55 pm

    @Liberal:
First, you’re brain-dead if you think for one second that the civil war was actually about slavery. It was about taxes and tariffs on the cotton they sent to the north. The signing of the emancipation proclamation was only a caveat, it was done more to piss off the southern plantation owners so that they couldn’t make so much money off of cheap labor. I’m not for slavery one iota as no man should serve another in that manner but you need to get your history straight as it makes you and the author of your “hit-piece” look stupid.

In examining both the new BHO COLB with the Nordyke twins COLB you will notice the odd alignment of “P.M” following the time of birth in box 5b. Although curious to my eye, at least it is the same on both documents.

What IS odd though about the BHO document is the mis-alignment of “August 4″ with the following “, 1961″. Why would anyone adjust the typewriter between typing the day (4) and the following comma? If the comma and year were ‘pre-filled’ then why would the time in box 5b align with the year and not with the month and day? Could the month and day have been altered?

For comparison, there are several other commas on the BHO COLB which you can see align more closely/properly with the immediately preceding character. (boxes 1c, 7c, 11, and 16)

    Just askin’…

  41. Random in Texas says:

The P.M. alignment occurs because the “M.” is printed on the form with space for the person filling in the form to put a “P.” or an “A.”.

The other stuff – not so sure about. Waiting to hear a good explanation. The video at this link is of interest in this matter:
