Somehow, these demands “wounded” black Americans in a way the Ku Klux Klan “never aspired to,” even if this metaphorical wounding is a much lighter sentence than the death sentences the Klan handed out:

@thesixfour: They were what was termed “Dixiecrats” ie southern Democrats. When the majority of the Democratic party stood behind the civil rights act of the ’60s, all the Dixiecrats switched to the Republican party, most notoriously Strom Thurmond.

Sure, the KKK killed and wounded people physically, and the birthers may not have done so (yet).
