I love to mosey up to Prius drivers and present these facts to them. They will usually counter the argument with a statement about how “green” their Prius is. At that point, it is entertaining to bring up the battery.
Bottom line: hybrid vehicles are statements of vanity; nothing more.
All I have to say is
’93 Honda Civic
40MPG
– and PAID FOR….
I love to mosey up to Prius drivers with their windows down and give them some diesel fumes they can enjoy.
this is true of all alternative fuels…
it’s a shell game with these leftists/greenies
making people feel guilty… so they pay more money for inferior products..
so they can feel better about themselves…
As an owner of a Prius, purchased new in ’08 for 17k & which gets 55mpg on average . . .I’m happy with my purchase, given the 100 mile round trip to work each day. Mock it all you want, you cannot knock those savings. Seats five adults comfortably too. Only routine maintenance – No major repairs needed thus far.
@ wtd
just don’t get in an accident going any faster than 5 mph, if you value your life.
and, good luck when it is time to replace the battery.
Drive whatever you want, just don’t be telling me what to cruise in. OK?
Magic unicorn farts and windmills and solar panels are going to put those dastardly and evil oil companies out of business. Have you seen my hope bong? I need to change the water in it.
I too am a Prius owner and can testify that this video is a bunch of crap when applied to the Prius. The car is priced comparible to other vehicles its size so there is no amortized cost disadvantage. All the savings in fuel efficiency are realize directly to the bottom line.
1997 Toyota Tercel. Drives like a gocart, 120kmiles, only oil changes. 30 some-odd mpg…cheap.
On weekends, though, the Dodge gets its usage (or when I just feel like driving to work and sucking down dead dinosaur juice). Try putting a 300# safe in the back of a hybrid. Or filling it with camping supplies and getting to the desert.
If I am shopping for a product and it’s labeled “green” I put it down and move on to something that I like. The same goes with vehicles. I would never buy anything that’s labeled “hybrid” or “green”. Let’s just drill baby drill and forget all of this foolishness. The USA has more energy reserves than any country in the world and we can’t use them. Barack Hussein Osama and the EPA need to be abolished and the American ingenuity needs to be unleashed instead of being stifled.
I put 5000 miles on my new fusion/hybrid in two months (that’s normal driving for me), and only fill up about every 500 miles–only because I can. Last fill-up cost me $55 (ugh!)
For the record, I’m not “green”, don’t eat tofurky, care very little about polar bears, and think global warming is a crock, and I hate bho. Not everyone with a hybrid visits that Santa cruz earth day summit thingy. You all are starting to sound like a bunch of liberals! Who cares what people drive.
@Natalie
“who cares what poeple drive.”
that’s not the point. it’s being TOLD WHAT TO DRIVE
when bho tells a man with TEN kids to buy a hybrid van, something is wrong.
when gas is over $5/gal SOMETHING IS WRONG
when truck drivers who transport our food/supplies across the country REVOLT over paying $5.00/gal (and diesel fuel is ALWAYS at least .50 more then gas)
SOMETHING IS WRONG.
when our own administration defies logic and won’t use natural resources THAT WE OWN and continues to rely on OUR ENEMIES OIL
no offense Natalie.
long day.
sb, The Prius battery is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. It is warranted for 100,000 miles, but designed to last much longer. The dealer I purchased my auto from has yet to replace a Prius battery since it’s introduction. Prius also has a very high reliability rating. As for accidents, I avoid them in any automobile.
I enjoyed my SUV’s in the past, but made a conscious decision to prevent as much further contribution of my hard earned income to the greatest transfer of wealth to the ME in human history. That does not make me a ‘greenie’ or whatever silly term they come up with. It just makes sense to stop funding the jihad in every way possible. As mentioned above, I’m not telling anyone what they should or should not drive. They can rationalize for themselves & make their own decisions. I’m very content with mine.
I also agree with the “Drill here, drill now” folks for the same reasons. When the political wind shifts – and it will – and we regain our sanity and develop our own energy resources to it’s fullest, I will reconsider the appropriate vehicle for my family’s needs. For now, the Prius is practical and efficient.
Where is all that electricity coming from?
When the temp rises to 95 degrees we all hear or experiece “Brown Outs.”
Again, how do we generate all that electricity?
