Republicans Blast Obama Over Proposed Executive Order Requiring Companies to Disclose Political Donations as “Blatant” Assault on Free Speech…
Is that a spine I detect? Only time will tell. The GOP better (and I think most of you will agree) go friggen nuclear over this, shut down Congress, do whatever it takes. What company in their right mind would donate to conservatives if they do business with the federal government?
(The Hill) — Republican leaders in the House are urging President Obama to nix an executive order that would require federal contractors to disclose their political contributions.
In a letter sent to Obama on Friday, 21 Republicans, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), called the proposed executive order “a blatant attempt to intimidate, and potentially silence, certain speakers who are engaged in their constitutionally protected right to free speech.”
If implemented, the executive order would require companies bidding for federal contracts to disclose their contributions to parties and candidates, as well as donations to third-party entities that spend funds on “independent expenditures and electioneering communications,” according to a copy of the draft order.
The draft order is similar to the Disclose Act that passed the House but stalled in the Senate in the last Congress. That legislation would have mandated the disclosure of political donations to nonprofit groups.
Another signee on the GOP letter, Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.), called the proposed executive order a “brazen attempt to skirt the legislative process and force partisan policies rejected by Congress last year.”
“This biased approach to selective free speech does not pass muster and should be abandoned,” Lungren said in a statement. “Instead of looking for regulatory solutions to his party’s campaign problems, the President should focus on the mounting problems plaguing individuals and American companies growing increasingly frustrated with Washington.”

I expect blow back on this but as representatives of the people paid form by our money we are entitled to know what is being donated to them by people trying to acquire contracts paid for by our money. No one is saying that they companies can’t donate, but I don;t see this as an infringement on “free speech”. If we keep going down the corporations equal to real people then i want to see their birth certificates.

Let’s try a little substitution logic here.
What happens if contractors were required to “disclose” what race the majority of their work force was?
Why should the people who occupy the seat of control have the right to select one special interest group over another?

What were not asking is why does he need to know? what difference does it make who they donate too to get a government contract?
The answer should be No difference, but with obama every single thing he does is petty and not knowing if they are communist compatible will drive him crazy.
The only thing that should matter is price and deliver date, are they able to make the product for the price and deliver it on time and make sure it works the way it was designed to.
Having donated to whom ever they did for president shouldn’t matter and its a blatant violation of peoples constitutional rights. with or without and executive order.
Notice the only time these D-bags come out fighting, it’s when something will affect their time at the trough. They’re determined to keep their cushy lives, but when it comes to their constituents, it’s “go pound sand” time or “we don’t have the other house to fight this.”

most people seem to be missing a huge point from what I have read today. not only does it require listing the companies donations, but ALSO donations of its directors and executives.
so if you donate differently than your corporation does do you get fired?
again, the PERSONAL DONATIONS people make have to be listed.

Have none of you never played poker before? This is an obvious ante towards the debt ceiling and Obama expects to give this joke up for the R’s caving on getting huge spending cuts. It will be one of many new ideas the D’s will come up with before the big vote. Just to show how stupid this executive order is, it is RETROACTIVE for two years meaning that Obama can tell who contributed to his or McCain’s campaign.
