Gingrich Releases Video In Which He Opposes Mandate He Defended Yesterday…

From yesterday:

MR. GREGORY: Now, I know you’ve got big difference with what you call Obamacare. But back in 1993 on this program this is what you said about the individual mandate. Watch.

(Videotape, October 3, 1993)

REP. GINGRICH: I am for people, individuals — exactly like automobile insurance — individuals having health insurance and being required to have health insurance. And I am prepared to vote for a voucher system which will give individuals, on a sliding scale, a government subsidy so we insure that everyone as individuals have health insurance.

(End videotape)

MR. GREGORY: What you advocate there is precisely what President Obama did with his healthcare legislation, is it not?

REP. GINGRICH: No, it’s not precisely what he did. . . .

REP. GINGRICH: Well, I agree that all of us have a responsibility to pay — help pay for health care. And, and I think that there are ways to do it that make most libertarians relatively happy. I’ve said consistently we ought to have some requirement that you either have health insurance or you post a bond. . .

MR. GREGORY: Mm-hmm.

REP. GINGRICH: . . . or in some way you indicate you’re going to be held accountable.

MR. GREGORY: But that is the individual mandate, is it not?

REP. GINGRICH: It’s a variation on it.

Today:

I take great joy in watching Gingrich go down in flames after only a week of officially being in the race.

What’s the matter, Newt? Put your finger in the air and realized that what you said before didn’t resonate with those who you think would support you? Had to change your mind and hope people didn’t hear you before?

I think I know why we keep having the same old group on the R side. The people who would be awesome presidential candidates don’t want to put their families and kids through the shit they will have to endure. In many ways I can’t blame them. I would be a poor candidate in that regard…because I would be in jail for what would happen to the people who trashed my daughters publicly.

So um… When he announced… He didn’t actually say anything about running as a Republican…. Maybe we’ve got our first official democrat contender to Obama.

I had an open mind about Newt up until yesterday. I was willing to listen to what he had to say. Well, he said it, and he’s off my list of possibles from now on, unless, in the very unlikely chance that he becomes (God forbid) the GOP nominee and is the only alternative to 4 more years of Hopenchange. He can’t possibly be as bad as The One, but I hope to God that we get somebody more conservative, which shouldn’t be too difficult.

What makes these men and right now its all men, think we want them for President? is it because we keep saying anyone but obama and so they believe us?
When we say anyone but obama we mean Please God someone with some balls and brains run against obama if not we will take who ever is left.
But we really want a Palin or West or Bolton. someone strong ,conservative-That leaves Mittens out and a great set of balls. that also leaves out the rest of the men running right now.

So Newt anyone but obama and you and mitt and mitch and huck and so on and so forth.

Keep vigorously tap dancing in the quicksand, Newt o’l boy. The more you squirm, the faster you sink.

So sad that so many actually good ideas and an otherwise-incisive mind that would be a vicious chain saw to encounter in a debate can be so easily self-destructed and disqualified with such DOA political positions. Hubris often scuttles the most seaworthy vessels (re: Titanic and many a political career).

    Poor Newt……..

Let him go on a while longer, he can still run roughshod over the MSM. Maybe by the time an actual candidate is chosen they will have learned some manners.
