Texas Gov. Rick Perry Considering Run For President?…

Too good to be true.

(RCP) — As many grass-roots Republicans remain in search of a conservative candidate with the pizazz to go toe-to-toe against President Obama, a man from deep in the heart of Texas who was tea party before the tea party was cool appears to be giving the presidential race some thought.

Gov. Rick Perry has insisted on multiple occasions that he has no interest in the presidency, but RCP has learned that political associates have begun to nose around quietly on Perry’s behalf.

A Texas pol who is close to Perry has been telling a few key strategists that the nation’s longest-serving governor sees a vacuum and is waiting to be summoned into the race. This source believes that could happen by late summer. Without fellow Southerners Haley Barbour or Mike Huckabee in the race — and with Newt Gingrich’s early troubles raising further doubts about the current lineup — there could be a glaring niche for Perry to fill.

According to another well-connected Republican, at least one Perry confidant has been very quietly making inquiries about the political terrain in the nation’s first voting state of Iowa. A third Perry associate, RCP has learned, has been heralding a small contingent of Iowans with the time-tested line that is often used by would-be candidates who are leaving their options open: “Keep your powder dry.”

Again, if God wants Governor Perry or Governor Palindrome in the WH, not one thing that exists in the universe can stop it. Just keep praying, punting, and voting lads and lassies.

I agree with Laura. I’m from Texas and I don’t want him as President. I disagree with Orlando about him being a RINO though. Haven’t seen anything to indicate that.

I would love to see Perry run.

I’m not a Texan but wish I were sometimes.

I can imagine this during a debate:

Perry: The president of the United States is not supposed to grant favors to certain states and countries. While Texas was on fire the current president decided that Mexico was more important because they voted for him and the majority of Texans did not.

As a Texan I am pretty much out on Perry. He is better than some alternatives, say HuckaRino, Romneycare or the Obamessiah but his act has gotten old.

Google the Trans Texas Corridor and the Eminent Domain issues it caused.

The really damning one for me was the Gardasil/HPV vaccination debacle whereby he wanted that to be mandatory for school girls. Never mind that a chief of staff was from Merck or that Merck was a multi-thousand dollar contributor. Instead let’s try to use an Executive Order (not voted upon legislation) to inject our children against their parents’ will.

This does not sound Conservative or like First Principals which is what I am looking for in a POTUS; We have seen the alternative and it isn’t something I am interested in repeating.

I think he would probably be OK, and make the country far more prosperous and safer in the long run. The problem I have with him is that he played the P.C. card during the Texas Hate Crime Bill.

They had a prominent Black Church is Dallas that staged a fake hate crime. The bill was stalled in the House and needed a little push. So a fake hate crime was staged and it worked.

Perry fell for it hook line a sinker and signed the bill. I wrote to the guy and received a blanket P.C. response. After that incident, it proved to me that this guy could be easily swayed by political correctness.

I was living in Dallas at the time that this incident happened and it was overtly clear that it was fabricated and staged. But it was enough to pass the bill into law.

I call Bull Shit on this guy, but if it came between him and Obama, Perry would have to get my vote.

The Guardisil (sp) issue was a bad decision.

‘Perry’s presidential prospects may ultimately be contingent on the decision made by the only GOP White House hopeful who can boast a resume and home state that is large enough to mess with Texas: former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Perry shares Palin’s dexterity with the simple, tough-talking language that tends to fire up the tea party faithful and is similarly adept at connecting on a human level that comes across as decidedly anti-politician, despite his more than a decade in the governor’s mansion.’

The key to TX success is low taxes, no state income taxes, small government, moderate to low regulations, amongst other reasons.
