White House Staffers Want to Unionize Under AFL-CIO…

(Fox News) — Staffers at the White House budget office filed a petition Monday to join a labor union, seeking to gain more input over their working conditions.

About half of the career work force at the Office of Management and Budget signed the petition, said Peter Winch, deputy director of field services and education for the American Federation of Government Workers.

Winch said the move is not a signal that workers are unhappy at the agency, but a sign that they would like more of a voice in how the office is organized and more appreciation for the work they do.

“A lot of people are expected to come in on weekends and work late,” Winch said. “They don’t mind that culture, because they feel they are engaged in very important work, but they would like more recognition for the fact that they do make those sacrifices.”

The office, which helps the president prepare the federal budget, has been reorganized over the past year. Winch said some workers would have wanted their point of view considered when those changes were made.

AFGE [part of the AFL-CIO -ed.] is the nation’s largest federal employee union, representing about 600,000 workers in the federal government and Washington, D.C.

Now we know why AFL-CIO chief Richard Trumka “visits the White House 4 to 5 times a week and talks to them everyday.”

OK, they want recognition? Let’s give them each an inscribed plaque.

Working nights, weekends, and not having a say in how a department is reorganized is standard operating procedure for white collar workers all over America. Let them get jobs in the real world and see how tough it is. Then try the “boo-hoo no one loves us” crap.

Most people would feel it was an honour to work at the White House.

Mind you, I wouldn’t want to work for the Obama clan.

“and more appreciation for the work they do”

    ———-

The administration is already picking winners and losers. They should be thankful that they still have a job. (many people don’t)

    “White House budget office”

    ———–

All of the White House staff, including the cabinet members, serve at the leisure of the President. The White House doesn’t need a reason to fire any of them.

They couldn’t legally strike for any reason.

It will be interesting to see how many of them actually wanted to join a union, and how many were pressured into joining, during the next administration.

This whole things still smack of racketeering. Imagine if the doctors who were about to perform a coronary bypass on you, waiting until you were on the operating table to demand “a little extra bonus”.

When we get a new administration, they should fire every single one of the union myrmidons.

“more appreciation for the work they do”?????!!!! Are you fkn kidding me? What the hell do they think their paycheck is? Obviously being so near the Obamas has caused them to develop an over-inflated sense of entitlement. Crybabies.

Since the taxpayers are the ones who pay their taxes — WE should get to vote on whether they unionize and what their increases are — not union bossses.

    Just to point something out:

The White House staff members are already part of a union; The United States of America. Their charter is the US Constitution.

Why should we tolerate a sub-dividing of our already established set of working conditions? Would the UAW allow a confederacy to form within it’s own ranks?

All these political hacks need to spend a week in the real world. There are millions of people out of work who can’t feed their kids, pay the rent, buy gasoline. I haven’t had a raise in six years, but you don’t hear me complaining. I’d like to see these idiots stand in a food line, or even work behind the counter serving the food. When I started in my trade I worked 12, 16+ hours a day including many weekends… I don’t want to hear these cry babies. They are looking for the pension benefits, that’s all… try investing your own money like I have to do. Freeeking cry babies.

Obama wants to unionize every federal worker in the United States. The OMB wants to unionize too, along with TSA. Is this the huge civilian army (at least as well founded as the military) that he was talking about? Obamacare comes with a lot of new federal employees too. We will have to decertify all federal workers and then fire most of them.

How about they first swap jobs with some of our fighting forces in Afaghanistan or Iraq? Eat the rations, keep hydrated, enjoy the sand and bugs, be away from family and creature comforts.

If, after a year, they could come back and see if they still feel so “unapprecaited” – Lord, what panzies!

Half of these people will lose their jobs in 2013. (if i have anything to say about it)

What makes these people think that any guarantee given to them by the Obama administration will be honored by the next?

Obama has made all contracts ‘voidable’ by government. That will be his legacy.

Utterly ridiculous. These idiots need to move into the private sector and experience REAL work. Can you just picture the WH budget office going on strike just because they want more back massages? I agree. Fire all these ungrateful fuckers. I don’t want my tax money paying for such whining bloodsuckers.

I used to work in politics. During session, it wasn’t unusual to work until 3 to 4 in the morning. That’s just part of the job.

During interim, the schedule was more relaxed and several employees were offered the ability to work a flex schedule. So, I suggested to my boss – a state Representative who just happened to be the Speaker – that I could work on my schedule so I had every other Friday off.

He smiled and said he’d be happy to work on my schedule so I’d have every Monday THRU Friday off.

    Message received. :)

I love how all you people always point to the private sector when it comes to unions…. Millions of low-wage workers in the private sector is what is dragging our economy down.

No Craig that is not what is dragging our country down. It’s an out of control, Federal Government overtaxing and over regulating businesses that is dragging this economy down. They won’t get the hell out of the way so people can run businesses. You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about. No unions in the White House. They don’t have that right.
