Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) has scheduled a vote on Goodwin Liu’s nomination tomorrow. Despite other clips of Mr. Liu seeming to advocate for working at the community level to right the wrongs of slavery, this clip displays a very specific idea that something must be given up “to make things right” including “giv(ing) up money” or else “the reconciliation can’t fully occur.”
The revelation of this new video could be a devastating blow to Mr. Liu’s nomination.

And ya know what? If there were any ex-slaves from U.S. slavery days, this idea might have some merit. But we are at least 3 generations from any actual enslaved African Americans.
And what kind of research would need to go into determining the class, Prof. Liu?? There are families of free African-Americans (especially in the north) going back *centuries*. Just ’cause you’re black doesn’t mean your a decendent of slaves. And what if you’re multi-racial from FREE choice among your ancestors? How are you going to determine how much anyone gets? Start from a census of freed slaves and then divide by generation? Make claimants trace to at least one known slave/owner?
Get over it. The playing field has become at least accessible to all– get a grip and go play on it. I am so sick and tired of the Left continually trying to stuff all sorts of people into victimhood WHO ARE NOT. Accepting victimhood is accepting slavery and believing in your inability to achieve. THAT needs to end, or we’ll never get anywhere.
I think Mr. Liu should lead by example and give up his “right” to this position. Obviously there must be some other “person/thing-of-color” more deserving of it than he, who/which has had to wait lo-these-many-years for this particular opportunity to arise.

If Islam is really against slavery, why did it take 13 centuries to declare it was illegal? And the slavery practice is still going on until today.

American colonists had abolished slavery in 1670′s and these slaves were white. Not just indentured but bought and sold as out right slaves.
