Good Grief: Gingrich Now Claims He Wasn’t Talking About Ryan’s Plan on Meet the Press…

Speechless.

(The Atlantic) — Newt Gingrich said today that he wasn’t referring to Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wisc.) Medicare plan when he uttered the words “right-wing social engineering” last Sunday — a comment that has earned the former House speaker a barrage of criticism that ultimately let him to call Ryan and apologize.

In a live interview with Rush Limbaugh Thursday afternoon, Gingrich said he hadn’t actually criticized Ryan’s plan in his Sunday appearance on “Meet the Press,” and that he wasn’t referring to the Wisconsin congressman when he said those words.

“It was not a reference to Paul Ryan. There was no reference to Paul Ryan in that answer,” Gingrich told Limbaugh, who was in the process of gently grilling him about why he used those words in the NBC interview.

Limbaugh asked Gingrich why, then, did he call Ryan to apologize for the remark, if it wasn’t made in reference to Ryan.

“It was interpreted in a way which was causing trouble which he doesn’t need or deserve,” Gingrich said. “My answer wasn’t about the budget, and I promptly went back to say publicly that I would have voted for the Ryan budget.”

@Wisco – thanks – I sent him a polite note asking him to reconsider, noting that I have purchased a couple of his history texts in the past but adding that NO ONE IN MY FAMILY WILL EVER VOTE FOR HIM !

Concerning Newt’s statements above – I wonder how many times he and his staff watched the tapes to of his performance to finally decide that “legally speaking” he didn’t really say what he meant at the time…….

Newt’s problem has always been that he talks too much… often while thinking of something to say.

No, I wasn’t talking about THAT Paul Ryan….I was talking about the OTHER Paul Ryan…you know, the one in California…

I really don’t care what Gingrich said or didn’t say. He is unelectable. Let’s find someone who is electable. So far, that is proving to be very hard.

Given newt’s latest disastrous remarks about ryan’s plan, is anyone else as sick as i am of hearing how smart people like krauthammer or gingrich are? People on our side constantly begin their criticisms of these 2 worthless establishment types as “they are incredibly smart, but…”. and it drives me nuts.
Why are they sooo supposedly smart? Because they look like everyone’s wise old grandfather? Gingrich failed to recognize just how radical obama was during the 08′ election (which was when i really began to see newt as a moron) and the same goes for krauthammer who was on mondale’s speech writing committee. Both “genius” men seem to miss things that are completely obvious to all of the “unwashed masses”

The problem is that people in our society and within our own party (ESPECIALLY WOMEN) don’t see attractive women as intelligent or worthy of being in positions of high authority. That is why Palin constantly has to prove she is intelligent, while guys with white hair constantly benefit from the assumption that they are inherently intelligent.

I rest my case with joe biden.

You know, I’m almost to the point of where I want him to stay in until the Iowa Caucuses in February …. just so we could all witness the lowest delegate count in United States political history. I mean, they’d be digging up graves to vote against him.

But he could do a lot of damage to the party between now and then.

Seriously. He needs to shut up. And people like Rush need to stop giving him a platform. Ignore him.

I think Newt is intelligent and has many good ideas, BUT he seems to have some REALLY BAD ones, too – like making commercials with Hilarity and Peelousy in favor of lefty bullshit. And a bad habit of trying to be the smartest guy in the room. He probably is in the crowd he hangs with, but doesn’t know when to STFU!

He’s got the same disease as MuhCain – “Like me, please like me, liberals!” Pathetic, and he has no virtue – a sleaze ball, scum bucket in his personal life.

I hope he sticks around for a bit, though. He’s got a big target on his back – a good distraction which will allow a real conservative to gain ground. The other guys better know their stuff or he’ll eat their lunch, IF he doesn’t start shoveling BS!

    to roadmaster

Newt should go now. The only people targeting him are conservatives and as long as he is floundering in his own verbal excrement there is no time for the others out there to make a case. The libs love him because he takes up our time and they can point to division on the right. He thinks he is bright but I remember when he was Speaker – point a camera at him and he talks – he is Chucky Schumer with more hair, they both make noise they just don’t make sense. He is arrogant, narcissistic and self destructive. His sell by day was years ago.
