LA Times Columnist: Obama Stammers Because He’s So Damn Intelligent…
All those ”umms” and “uhhhs” aren’t the product of a man who can’t speak without the aid of a teleprompter, it’s the result of his gigantic brain overpowering his mouth or something.
(LA Times) – Apparently, a lot of people consider President Obama to be bumblingly inarticulate. “The guy can’t talk his way out of a paper bag!” a reader wrote to me recently. “Sarah Palin is a brilliant speaker. It’s the president whose sentences are undiagrammable,” said another in response to a column I wrote about Palin. It’s not just my readers, nor is it exclusively conservatives, who hold this view. A Google search of “does Obama have a speech impediment” turns up several pages of discussion among the president’s supporters and critics alike.Admittedly, the president is given to a lot of pauses, “uhs” and sputtering starts to his sentences. As polished as he often is before large crowds (where the adjective “soaring” is often applied to his speeches), his impromptu speaking frequently calls to mind a doctoral candidate delivering a wobbly dissertation defense.
But consider this: It’s not that Obama can’t speak clearly. It’s that he employs the intellectual stammer. Not to be confused with a stutter, which the president decidedly does not have, the intellectual stammer signals a brain that is moving so fast that the mouth can’t keep up. The stammer is commonly found among university professors, characters in Woody Allen movies and public thinkers of the sort that might appear on C-SPAN but not CNN. If you’re a member or a fan of that subset, chances are the president’s stammer doesn’t bother you; in fact, you might even love him for it (he sounds just like your grad school roommate, especially when he drank too much Scotch and attempted to expound on the Hegelian dialectic!).

I think it would be closer to the truth to say “Obama is so stupid that his mouth has to stall for his brain to keep up“

I think his ‘speaking only in generalities’ serves two purposes; it allows him to sound (to trusting fools) like he knows something about which he speaks, and it allows him to NOT commit to any position.
If he never specifically says anything, it’s harder to hold it against him when he falls on his face.

I have grown up around the intelligent and the educated, some of which are genuine intellectuals. Obama doesn’t measure up.
He is not as articulate as any truly intelligent person is or would be; he does not speak with the understanding or the passion that someone advocating a position he comprehends would use. His speeches are routinely filled with historical howlers and lame, inaccurate citations.
Obama is an intellectual fraud, elevated above his station. He is a rank poseur—and this is evident to anyone who has ever encountered the genuine article where intellect is concerned.
And yet, somehow, with all that “overpowering intellect”, his policies are no more effective than his speech!
There are intelligent people who speak with a stutter or employ frequent um’s or er’s, but in their case it’s consistent in all their speech and likely is somehow psychological. Their speech will be the same whether answering questions in public, reading, or talking with friends.
Obama doesn’t stammer when shooting the shit, nor does he stutter when he has to read. He only stutters when he has to actively think, meaning it is a matter of intelligence and not some mental block.
Amazing how far the media will go to cover for this guy. He says stupid things but we’re really the ones who are stupid because he’s really thinking smart things but his mouth just can’t keep up. So when he utters another idiotic statement that should be code to us for how smart he reallys is.

Bush paused in his words, I believe, making certain what (and how) he was saying came out exactly in the context he meant it because he knew the MSM was waiting for fodder to be twisted, and he was overly careful not to give them any.

I’m no fan of Obama, but this theory actually has merit.
Without tooting my own horn too loudly, I also am a stammerer, and yes, above average in intelligence. In the top 2%, if my Mensa membership is to be credited. Speaking, even in relaxed situations with friends, (a luxury the President rarely enjoys) will find me “umm-ing” and errrrr-ing” and even repeating words and phrases until brain and mouth re-synchronize.
But I don’t have an army of sycophants billing me as an “eloquent” speaker when all evidence refutes that assertion.
There is a difference in being caught flat-footed and unable to form a cogent verbal response due to ignorance (which does not indicate a lack of intelligence), being unable to do so because of limited intellect, and stammering because one’s brain does, indeed, work much faster than one’s mouth.
I have no doubt the President is a highly intelligent individual. So what? That doesn’t make him fit, qualified or competent to hold ANY office. In my opinion, his actions speak much louder than his words. And his actions are what bother me.
Just compare the difference between President Obama’s speeches and Prime Minister Netahnyu’s. Both received the same elite education at Northeastern US Universities, during the same period.
It is tempting to believe that education has been reduced to staged sound bytes, instead of real debate and discourse. Mr. Netahanyu’s recent speech before our Congress, not to mention the drubbing that President Obama took in the Oval Office, give lie to that.
