From Bad To Worse: Half Of Last Month’s 54K New Jobs Came From A Single Employer — McDonald’s…
(Weekly Standard) – According to the unemployment data released this morning, the economy added only 54,000 jobs, pushing the unemployment rate up to 9.1 percent. However, this report from MarketWatch suggests data is much worse than that:
McDonald’s ran a big hiring day on April 19 — after the Labor Department’s April survey for the payrolls report was conducted — in which 62,000 jobs were added. That’s not a net number, of course, and seasonal adjustment will reduce the Hamburglar impact on payrolls. (In simpler terms — restaurants always staff up for the summer; the Labor Department makes allowance for this effect.) Morgan Stanley estimates McDonald’s hiring will boost the overall number by 25,000 to 30,000. The Labor Department won’t detail an exact McDonald’s figure — they won’t identify any company they survey — but there will be data in the report to give a rough estimate.

In Europe McDonalds has started using computerized kiosk instead of a warm body to take your order. If it works good there, guess what it will do to these about to become ex-employees here.

If I eat fast food it’s at Chick-fil-A. I love the chicken and they always keep the place pretty decent looking for a fast food restaurant. They also support Christian values.

Mickey D owned Boston Market – pretty much gone in our area. Mickey D had ownership in Chipolte, you know, the chain where all the ICE raids were going on.
1) what is their normal hiring rate (per month, not day), 2) wonder how many of the new hires will stay on the payroll after the media goes back to sleep.

Call me a crazy conspiracy theorist, but the government (more like big brother) is completely responsible for new McDonalds’ jobs. Corn and other subsidies and the Farm Bill encourage the growing massive amounts of corn for high fructose corn syrup and other really crappy food in order to stock fast food joints with food to make the public fat, lazy and sick and more dependant and easy to control and manipulate.

I understand the snark and am sorely dissappointed that chronic unemployment plagues the Republic. I’m a grandpa and have lived and worked through four recessions this certainly being the worst. And it’s obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells synapsing why it started and why it continues.
But I have trouble not being grateful that McDonalds employed 25k more people last month. At least they have some income and aren’t on welfare or unemployment.
Perhaps McDonalds will give BarryO a job and make room for a real President.

I know a women that works at Mc Donalds for 22 years. She told me they cut everyone hours to hire these people because they got money from the Government for new cash registers. Sounds like they were paid to hire people to make it look good.
