(Politico) — In a major speech to the Council on Foreign Relations on Wednesday, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will say the United States risks “national suicide” if it doesn’t adopt a more welcoming immigration policy.
“We will not remain a global superpower if we continue to close our doors to people who want to come here to work hard, start businesses, and pursue the American dream,” Bloomberg says in prepared remarks obtained by Playbook.
“The American dream cannot survive if we keep telling the dreamers to go elsewhere,” he says. “It’s what I call national suicide — and that’s not hyperbole.”

We have got to amend our immigration system that requires immigration of only educated, healthy immigrants that are capable of providing more to America than what they take. We do not need more minimum wage trades people, waiters, cooks or service workers their services contribute minimal to our social services system. Besides, we will now have a population of people that aspire to those jobs as the pinnacle of their life successes once the entitlement checks dry up. I read that illegal immigrant families cost the US taxpayer $25,000/yr/family. A family unit in Government is typically considered 3.5 persons per capita…divide 20 million by 3.5 and then multiply by 25K…quite a number and quite a savings to be had should we simply enforce our laws and secure our borders.
