AP Story On Indiana Planned Parenthood Losing Its Taxpayer Funding Doesn’t Bother To Mention Abortion As The Reason They Lost It…

Hey, it’s not like Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in America. . . no, wait?
Comments & pings are closed.INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Thousands of low-income Planned Parenthood of Indiana patients were left fending for themselves Tuesday to pay for birth control, breast exams, Pap tests and other medical services while a court battle continued over a new state law that eliminated the organization’s Medicaid funding.
Planned Parenthood began turning away Medicaid patients who couldn’t pay for its medical services Tuesday, one day after private donations that had paid those patients’ bills ran out.
A state law that took effect May 10 denied Planned Parenthood the Medicaid funds it uses to pay for general health services it provides to low-income women at its 28 Indiana clinics. The group is seeking a preliminary injunction to block Indiana’s law, and a ruling is expected by July 1.
As Planned Parenthood awaits that ruling, the group said about 9,300 Medicaid patients — both women and men enrolled in the state-federal health insurance program for low-income and disabled people — are now facing “disrupted” medical services under the state’s law.
Nicole Robbins, a 31-year-old single mother who has been a Planned Parenthood client for six years, said she had intended to visit a Planned Parenthood clinic in Indianapolis on Tuesday to pick up a 2-month supply of birth control pills. Then, the Medicaid recipient learned that the more than $100,000 in private donations the group had raised since May 10 had dried up.
The Ivy Tech Community College student from Indianapolis who is pursuing a physical therapy degree said she’s not sure how she’ll pay for her birth control.
“There are a lot of people who don’t have jobs, who don’t have income, and Medicaid is their only source of income as far as health insurance,” she said. “I feel like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place.”
The Medicaid de-funding measure took effect the same day that Gov. Mitch Daniels signed the law. But other provision of the law that gives the state some of the nation’s tightest restrictions on abortions won’t take effect until July 1.

You know, you can always say “No.” – then, no need for the BC Pills. :p
Anyone surprised…this is just a given anymore from our leftist-loons who think everyone else in this country is brain-dead and only they bring us the real news.
Comedy-Central anymore…it’s a given.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here, and just recommend that maybe PP can divert their baby-killing money to pay for the handou…errr services these people want…errr need. Just sayin.

If they had to pay for their own birth control, or their children, I bet they would find gainful employment real fast.

Maybe I am missing something here, but it seems like if a 31 year old SINGLE mother can not afford to pay for birth control pills, perhaps she should abstain from having sex until she can pay for them herself, without relying on the tax payer to do so.
Democrats never saw an abortion they didn’t like.

Hell, they got one elected President in 2008.
@soxfan4life:
Slightly OT, but I know what you’re saying, my niece is a welfare mother and has been since her first kid 20 years ago – that’s 9 kids ago and she’s held one job in that time, and got fired for stealing. Three of her kids she *sold* (adopted out) so at least they have a chance at a good life, but my niece does “great” for herself: she’s a *professional* welfare mother with no intention of ever working. She pays $29 a month for rent (yes, twenty-nine dollars for a nicer apartment than mine), has cable, internet and AC and when she goes to the store once a month she drops over $700 for groceries (on a special government food-stamp card). She’s always the *talk* of our (very large) family.
Makes me sick – I work like a dog to pay $1,400 a month in rent and all of my own expenses. Sometimes I wonder, why bother?

Hey, Nicole……….get an effing job! Or stop screwing…. or just go to the other medicaid approved clinics.
Is that tooooo hard for you to understand? Wouldn’t want to put you out, since you’re living off the tax-payer dime……

Because your integrity has more value than that.
Hey, it’s not like the money has any to do with abortion, as a matter of fact.
None of the money PP gets from the federal government or the state of Indiana funds abortions. It doesn’t even fund the services it’s intended to pay for – 24% of PP’s annual revenues nationwide come from donations, which subsidize care of all kinds.
The cut in funding for Planned Parenthood did not prevent, or even defund, one single abortion in that state. It never will, as long as it remains in effect. But it cuts hundreds of the poorest women in the nation off from basic healthcare and family planning services, every single day.
That was what the funding cut was intended to do. That is what it is doing. It was never intended to affect abortion care, because those funds don’t go to abortions; the abortion was just a stalking horse for stupid people who hate women. That also worked.
Congratulations.

Yes, I do have that. I am well respected in my profession and my career thus far spans nearly 20 years, so I DO know why I *bother*, and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished – but doesn’t it seem sometimes like some people – such as my niece – have become an “elite” class? They are people who really don’t have to do anything, accomplish anything, strive for anything…almost like *royalty* they are just given everything they could possibly need…
I suppose they are a class the Leftists want to create and maintain…and that’s one of the best reasons I can think of to explain why I’m a Conservative…
Welfare mom w/9 kids? Why didn’t she use her free birth control? When on welfare you get one kid after that your tubes get tied. You want more kids? Then get a job.
Miss Ivy Tech if you go to your local health dept they give out rubbers for free, or how about make your man pay for a box?

Damn that Ed Shultz. Damn him to hell.
“hate women”? and here I thought you were going to be rational.
It’s simple, if PP wants Medicaid money they can stop performing abortions, but if baby-killing is more important to them…oh well.
I maintain that it it PP who truly “hate women” since they actually do kill quite a few of them.
Nicole might try an aspirin held tightly between her knees.
Incredibly effective.
Close your legs and you won’t need to go to Planned Parenthood.
@tsepes: “It’s simple, if PP wants Medicaid money they can stop performing abortions, but if baby-killing is more important to them…oh well”
Bingo!
@Kevin Keith
What kind of screwed up logic do you use to draw the the conclusion that the refusal to fund abortion clinics is an example of hating women? Apparently, the “stalking horse” is your mode of transportation and the false argument is all yours.
Also, these poor women you claim to worry about have many other choices of medicaid approved clinics.
The article does talk about the abortion-related aspects of the law:
“The Medicaid de-funding measure took effect the same day that Gov. Mitch Daniels signed the law. But other provision of the law that gives the state some of the nation’s tightest restrictions on abortions won’t take effect until July 1.
Those include a ban on abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy unless there is a substantial threat to the woman’s life or health and a requirement that doctors ensure women seeking an abortion are told that life begins at conception.”
You missed on this one. It was clear to me that abortion was a reason for defunding.
I am prolife
None of us should be paying for any “services” PP offers.
I am not even going to try to be kind on this one: “The Ivy Tech Community College student from Indianapolis who is pursuing a physical therapy degree said she’s not sure how she’ll pay for her birth control.” How about keeping your knees together, bitch.
@ThomNJ:
Thanks for saying what I was also thinking!
@vagabond – Sometimes I just can’t stand it anymore! LOL
I think states need to simply stop licensing doctors and clinics where abortions are performed.
No more abortions. It really is that simple.
FTR, Planned Parenthood has a sliding fee scale. If clients qualify for Medicaid, they also qualify for the sliding fee scale. Unless Planned Parenthood intends to keep a list of Medicaid recipients and deny them services as revenge for this bill, they shouldn’t have a problem.
Interestingly enough, as I was checking on this this morning, I stumbled across two separate PP sites that advertise they accept Medicaid for abortion services, so apparently that whole “we’re keeping the money separate, not a single federal dime is spent on abortions” story they tell is a bold faced lie.

Why doesn’t Nicole Robbins ahve the men she is having s.ex with pay for her birth control? Or the father of her child?
