San Francisco Lib Nanny Staters Consider Banning The Sale Of All Pets…
We really should be thanking San Francisco for showing the rest of the country what America would look like if we handed the keys over to the left.
SAN FRANCISCO — The first vision was simple and straightforward: To curtail puppy mills and kitten factories, the sale of cats and dogs should be banned in San Francisco, where the loving guardians of animal companions come to regular blows — politically — with the loving parents of children.
The ban was put on hold last year after animal advocates broadened it to include anything with fur or feathers. Now it’s back, with a new name and a new strategy: More is more. The Humane Pet Acquisition Proposal is on its way to the Board of Supervisors, and it hopes to protect everything from Great Danes to goldfish.
Yes, goldfish. And guppies, gobies, gouramies, glowlight tetras, German blue rams. No fish, no fowl, no reptiles, no amphibians, no cats, no dogs, no gerbils, no rats. If it flies, crawls, runs, swims or slithers, you would not be able to buy it in the city named for the patron saint of animals.
“Why fish? Why not fish?” said Philip Gerrie, a member of the city’s Commission of Animal Control and Welfare and a co-author of the proposal. “From Descartes on up, in the Western mindset, fish and other nonhuman animals don’t have feelings, they don’t have emotions, we can do whatever we want to them. If we considered them living beings, we would deal with them differently. . . . Our culture sanctions this, treating them as commodities and expendable.”

On the up side of this, if it gets to the point there are no animals in San Francisco I can stop feeling guilty for wishing the place would get blown off the map.

As long as they are banning unhealthy and “inhumane” behavior, perhaps they should get around to banning male anal intercourse, which is about as unhealthy an act there is. While there at it, they should refuse to use tax dollars to treat homosexual AIDS patients.

Threw the car keys to my companion animal and told him he was driving me to work today and to get gas on the way back home, acted like he didn’t get it, ended up having to drive myself. When I got home this afternoon he was over by the aquarium and it got suspiciously quiet when I asked what the hell they were ‘cooking’ up. This seemed to upset the Oscar and I’m pretty sure it’s pouting now. Am I just insensitive?

Anything that gets people away from buying animals at pet stores is a good thing, I think…so will adopting animals from HSUS, SPCA, etc. still be allowed?
You have to understand something here in SF. The people are starting to notice all this progressive stuff happening. The progressives have taken over the board in SF. Generally, people are actually not happy about here about this progressive rot that has taken over the city. Don’t cross off SF yet.

Um, I think you’ll notice that SF is looking a just BANNING pets. period.
This is no suprise to anyone who has been PAYING ATTENTION to PETA and all the other “animal rights” wackos. Their endgame is the *extinction* of domestic animals (yes, including our tasty meat animals– cattle, chickens, piggies, ducks, etc.).
Shelters are supposed to become simply euthanasia factories (led by PETA’s “shelter” which has a kill rate of around 97%). In liberal strongholds, it is often more work to get a shelter cat or dog than you’d think. (I’ve had friends turned down for a shelter pet due to “home not big enough” or “pet already present in home”– BS excuses.) And because spay/neuter programs are WORKING!!!, more and more domestic mix cats & dogs are coming up with genetic defects usually only found in breeds with small genepools.
Add to this the fact that vet. schools are turning out grads who are openly hostile to reputable breeders and are in fact astoundingly ignorant of reproductive issues… well, you get the picture.
Sadly, PETA/AR seem to be winning on many fronts, although the “limit laws” they tried pushing in the late 90s/early 00s have turned out to be uninforceable or easy to get around.
SF is a proving ground for what these crunchy nuts want for the rest of us…
Remember that movie, “Escape from New York”? Maybe we ought to have a real life version in San Francisco.
If they really banned all pets then the city would be a ghost town.

A special last minute exemption from the SF city officials will be granted for shops that handle the sales of single use, shaved gerbils.
Work in an animal shelter for a time and you’ll realize why some people should not be allowed to take responsibility for a house plant, let alone a pet or child.
Now that I have said that, banning the sale of all pets is a knee-jerk reaction typical of the do-gooders on the left. They don’t see the hypocrisy in getting all wee-wee’d up about the sale of a goldfish but can’t see a problem with smashing the head of an unborn child so it will pass through a cervix on it’s way to a bio hazard trash can.
It’s all about control my friends, as I sit here with two birds on my head and a 14 year old giant green iguana on my lap.
