TSA denies forcing woman to remove diaper — no comment about the 45-minute detention of this 95-year-old wheelchair-bound woman who is dying of leukemia

(The Hill) — The Transportation Security Administration on Monday denied a report that airport screeners in Florida asked a 95-year-old woman in a wheelchair to remove her adult diaper.
“We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally, according to proper procedure and did not require this passenger to remove an adult diaper,” TSA spokesman Kawika Riley told The Hill.
The elderly woman, who suffers from leukemia and was on her way to an assisted living facility in Michigan, was reportedly detained for 45 minutes by security last weekend.
According to Jean Weber, the woman’s daughter and travel companion, screeners said they felt something “suspicious” on her leg during an initial pat-down and took the elderly woman into a private room before asking Weber to remove her adult incontinence diaper.
According to TSA, various options were presented to the passenger and her daughter during the private screening. The agency refused to discuss further details of the case, but maintained that security officers followed protocol.
“TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner,” the agency said.
“If this is your procedure, which I do understand, I also feel that your procedure needs to be changed,” Weber said of TSA on CNN Sunday. According to Weber, TSA agents allowed the two women to find a bathroom in order to remove the diaper.
“It’s something I couldn’t imagine happening on American soil,” Weber told the Northwest Florida Daily News.
The incident, which took place at the Northwest Florida Regional Airport last weekend, is the latest in a series of cases that have prompted outrage over TSA security screening procedures.
The agency changed its rules regarding screening children under 12 last week after reports that TSA officers patted down a 6-year-old and an 8-month-old, triggering similar protests from the public and members of Congress.

I love the TSA’s logic… “We did not MAKE her give over the diaper” however, she could nt fly without the search AND if you refuse to submit to a search once it is underway, you can be arrested.
I felt sick to my stomach when I read about this and saw this poor lady’s interview.
I felt so ashamed, this could anyone’s relative. I have no words, the 6 yr old groping was bad, this is even worse, what next?

Beaky, you make a sound point. Since they’ve started this, the TSA seems to single out the weak, aka those who won’t complain. That means no minorities are stopped, lest they bring up a “racist” complaint, meaning that blacks, hispanics, and most importantly Muslims all scoot through. That leaves whites to be the sole people being pulled aside, a population that can’t claim discrimination of any kind, a SAFE population.
If you see an white old lady/old man with a cane or a walker, it’s pretty much even money they’ll be pulled over going through the metal detectors (the canes/walkers make a convenient excuse). The TSA agents target the elderly for several reasons:
1) They are the most compliant and willing to be bossed around and least likely to cause trouble. The last thing the TSA agents want is trouble of any kind which would necessitate filling out paperwork.
2) The TSA agents aren’t going to find anything on them. Remember, the last thing the TSA agents want to find is an ACTUAL terrorist–that could actually place them in danger.
3) The elderly are slow and brittle, and their “close inspections” will waste a lot of time for the agents and get them closer to their next break. The elderly are the best “time wasters”.
I’m pretty young and white, and I made a mistake going through security my last flight–I forgot to take my wallet out of my pocket in the backscatter scanner. By right, TSA could have pulled me out of line for a more extensive scan along with the old white people and my first thought was that I was screwed. But all I did was say, “It’s my wallet” and the TSA guy just gave my pocket a light pat, and I was on my way. The agent never even had me pull out my wallet for confirmation. If that’s what passes for security on younger whites, imagine what Muslims can get away with, especially if their screener is one of the many hijabed Muslim women working for the TSA!

^A further point–I’ve seen East/Southeast Asians, and by Asians I mean Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc, pulled over as well. And again, it’s usually the old grandmother traveling with the family who doesn’t speak English and is scared into complying with everything they want. This population is also not likely to complain and be compliant, plus it distracts those who are paying attention from realizing no other minorities are ever stopped.
Obama gave those thugs the power to abuse and molest us, they’re doing their jobs sic. Email your Demorat representive and tell them what you think of that piece of legislation and make no attempt to be polite to the facist thugs.

I got singled out on my way to Seattle , but I think its because I checked two handguns in my luggage . The TSA agents were more worried about the overtime they were expecting than my baggage. The scanner pisses me off, but knowing my guns would be there at the end of my flight I wasnt as pissed as I usually get about this BS. Im not saying I endorse their behavior though.

CAIR: TSA Can Only Pat Down Muslim Women’s Head, Neck
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has issued a travel notice to Muslim airline passengers, warning them that new regulations from the Transportation Security Administration violate certain religious rules.
According to CAIR, the TSA’s new “enhanced pat down” policy should be limited to searching only around Muslim women’s head and neck if they are wearing a hijab and that Muslims objecting to the enhanced full-body scans have the right to request the pat-down procedure be done in a private place.

Special recommendations for Muslim women who wear hijab:
* If you are selected for secondary screening after you go through the metal detector and it does not go off, and “sss” is not written on your boarding pass, ask the TSA officer if the reason you are being selected is because of your head scarf.
* In this situation, you may be asked to submit to a pat-down or to go through a full body scanner. If you are selected for the scanner, you may ask to go through a pat-down instead.
* Before you are patted down, you should remind the TSA officer that they are only supposed to pat down the area in question, in this scenario, your head and neck. They SHOULD NOT subject you to a full-body or partial-body pat-down.
* You may ask to be taken to a private room for the pat-down procedure.
* Instead of the pat-down, you can always request to pat down your own scarf, including head and neck area, and have the officers perform a chemical swipe of your hands.
